Thank you for the feature and kind words John!! Hope to see you again soon.
Cheers, UDR!
Hi John, thanks for the link to Gene Ammons and Joe Thomes.
Both great records!
Good stuff John. That Moog Indigo record sounds fab. I agree that Page's guitar solos are messy (though I like them that way!) and I've often wondered if that was deliberate. He was clearly very accomplished so I'm inclined to think so.
Hi James. You have a point. Page was a great guitarist. The sloppiness of some of his solos must’ve been by design. It’s something that’s always bugged me though.
@@6inchpianist In a way he was a bit punk! Another thing about his playing is that because it's messy it's quite easy for aspiring young 'shredders' to imitate him, which in turn casts a bit of a pall over that style in general. I always thought Ritchie Blackmore was a sort of 'tidied-up' version of Page.
Hi John. I've got the Moog one. So do you recognise the samples or Google them? I wish I could get up for car boots. I'm not sure what puts me off of them. Maybe too disorganised for my liking. I've a Derrick Morgan album with a gospel choir I'll have to PM you a clip it is absolutely awesome.
Hi Martin. I usually hear a piece of music and convince myself that it was sampled in a particular song. Then I google it and find out it was used in something completely different 😀
Always really great stuff. Love all that reggae you share. Hot take on Jimmy, but to each their own.
Yeah, I appreciate that I’m probably on my own with my take on Jimmy’s solos. It wouldn’t do for us all to be the same though 👍
Totally with you on Ken Booth. I’ve loved his voice ever since I heard Everything I Own on the radio as a kid. Those reggae 7’s are real find and in those great 70s cardboard sleeves from (I think) Boots. Definitely worth your while getting up early that morning! Cheers John.
I absolutely hate those sleeves, hideous looking things but beauty is in the eye of the beholder😂
@@DavidB-py8nz Yeah not the best looking sleeves I must admit but do the job quite well lol
Hi Andy. I think you’re right about those cardboard sleeves being from Boots! They’ve done a good job of protecting those reggae 7”s too 👍👍
I’m the opposite. I can’t stand Robert plant’s vocals, but like Jimmy Page’s guitar. I was watching the last Brum Reseelar vid...ne hit a rich seam of classic rock at the car boot, but the bloke selling made it tricky as they weren’t priced so he was randomly calling out prices. It was interesting. I’ve got EVA on 12”. It’s on the flip of the Fatboy Slim remix. ‘Just To Get A Rep’ is an absolute classic by Gangstarr.
Hi Harris. I saw Brum Resellers video. He got some good stuff. I was at the same car boot. I had a bunch of stuff, including the copy of Hatfull Of Hollow, for between 2 and 4 quid. I’ll show some of the other bits in another video. John got a couple of nice AC/DC albums in that classic rock pile that’re worth a few quid. I like watching his videos because I get to see the stuff that I missed out on! I don’t know that Fatboy remix 12”. I’ll look that up. Cheers!
Ive never liked Led Zeppelin, could'nt get into them.
As my old mom used to say, it wouldn’t do for us all to be the same… 👍
@@6inchpianist True, I do think they are slightly overrated though.
Enjoying your videos John. Nice pick-ups. I'm not a fan of Led Zeppelin. They've never done it for me. I recognised the song you did a needle drop from the moog LP. I think it was used in an advert in the 90s for something (for orange juice? not so sure) but not the version you played. Some great bargains on the Reggae singles. Cheers.
Hey! I know that Led Zep aren’t for everyone. It’s those differences in opinion that keep things interesting 👍👍
Nice picks John. When Jimmy Page is being economical with his playing his solos can be sublime..Ten Years Gone on that album is a classic example. Candy soundtrack sounds great..definitely my thing. Some great reggae 45s..bargain.
Hi Rob. Yeah, the Candy soundtrack has that groovy 60’s vibe. Very cool 👌
Wave Length was the last Van Morrison album that I bought. It was okay and it is long gone. Candy is a cool soundtrack. Hatful Of Hallow is a great album. 60 Reggae singles is a huge haul.
Hi Richie. Hatful Of Hollow has been on deck alot over the past couple of weeks. Hadn’t spun it in ages. It’s cool when you rediscover records 👌
Great pick-ups John, blows my recent boot finds out of the water! Bags of reggae 45s is the sort of thing you dream of (or is it just me who dreams of what might be at the car boots...) Hopefully I'll get round to showing some of the stuff I've found soon, cheers Dale
Hi Dale. Don’t worry, it’s not just you that dreams about finding piles of rare records at a car boot sale… Looking forward to seeing your car boot finds. I love a car boot video!
I need to move to the Birmingham area....its where the good stuff is at !!! Great finds 👍👍👍
Hi Nick. I know you like a car boot. The fact that you never know what you might find is the fun of it 👍👍
Hi John always fun to see what you’ve been grabbing .. my boot sales have been limited this year, I picked up candy though a couple of years ago for 50p .. ha I can sympathise with other people pull records out next to you but you did well grabbing over 50 .. cheers John 👍
Hi Rob. Seeing what the other people around you are pulling out is a curse. I was lucky with this stack though. I can’t complain having pulled out over 50 reggae singles. You can’t beat a good car boot. Cheers!
Gorgeous Reggae Singles! Ken Booth sounds fab! Cheers 🍻
Hi Brian. Ken Boothe is my favourite reggae singer 👌
I was pleased to see you holding up "Strutter" John. Boy. Tim Booth is one of my faves from the late 80's and 90's. <> Two of my all time favorite bands in the same Car Boot Sale. You cannot go wrong with Hollow and Graffiti. Its funny how serious people get when anyone talks about Zeppelin in a not so positive way. {smile} I never took it personal when someone said anything negative about the Blimp, The Smiths or even the Beach Boys. <> I laughed at some of the comments below. Especially BruceVinyl3504. <> I got to see Zeppelin three times in 1977. Jimmy's performances were not always on the money. But when he was on he was unbeatable. All three of the NY shows were great. One of the things that I remember most about the shows was the overall sound. I sat way up in the greens for the first night. Lower arena the second night and twenty rows from the stage for the third night. They were incredibly loud but the sound was impeccably clear. No matter where we sat we could hear each one of them perfectly. Including Robert's vocals. Their PA system was one of the best in the business. <> I hope that they start to have some Car Boot Sales over here. <> Enjoy Graffiti, Hollow & Strutter. Three excellent albums~ Rob/Boston
Hi Rob. I knew you’d appreciate those few choices. I love hearing the stories about the gigs you’ve been to over the years. I bet Zep were incredible in their prime. Cheers! John
Wow love that Storm track 🔥🔥🔥gorgeous labels on those reggae 45s especially Torpedo and Pama Supreme. Congrats on the bag of riddim
Hi Dean. I’ve enjoyed spinning that bag of reggae over the past few weeks. Some great tunes in there. And, like you, I love discovering those labels. Cheers! John
It was really John Bonham's drumming that made led zeppelin stand out from the crowd and not jimmy page or Robert Plant as good as they were great album all the same
Love the Reggae 7' singles ! In The Light is my favourite Zeppelin track . I think both In Through The Outdoor & Presence are mediocre albums & Zep were probably done one way or the other.
Hi David. Presence and in Through The Outdoor have their moments but the band were pretty much done by then, as you say. I’ve always had a soft spot for Robert’s vocals though. There some great photos of him playing football in his Wolves shirt and underpants in the mid-70’s, still giving it his rock star swagger 😀
You've been busy, John. I'm sure you were excited to stumble on those reggae 7"s. I've never bought a Led Zeppelin record- and fully intend to keep it that way.🤣
Zeppelin… Beatles… Smiths… do you not value sleep, John?! Page a much better composer than soloist. Completely agree. The older I get, the less I need Zeppelin in my life. 60 reggae 45s! That’s all? 👀 Cheers! ✌🏻
Nice finds - I need to get car booting ! Good prices too
Hahaha you didn’t say that did you??? lol lol.....Steppenwolf sookie sookie I hear ya there ✊🏻🎶🎸🎤....great story on the 45s 👏🏻😎cheers John🍻
Hey! These mostly work great, but I don't know about Pata Pata. The rhythms are all over the place, it's like it's trying to pull itself apart. But I love that they tried.
Hi John, I've enjoyed ploughing thru all your posts, even though I'm not a Vinyl collector ! but I love and collect music and enjoy the new (old) artists that you've introduced me to. I've managed to get the Clydie King and Cousteau albums on CD, more to follow....also enjoy the pub posts, keep it up ! If you haven't yet, I suggest you check out Broadway Records in Fulham (only open on Saturdays) and Ben's in Guildford; both amazing crate diving options, especially for you who collect 45's.
Hey! Glad you got the Cousteau and Clydie King albums. Both are great listens. Thanks for the record shop suggestions. I’ll try to get to them both 👍👍
@@6inchpianist Hi John, are you in Birmingham? it would be great if we could meet when I come up from London again? If ok, let's swop mobile numbers. Cheers Luyton
Thanks for sharing these gems. Caroline Crawford actually works in one of my local record shops
Wow! I bet she has some great stories…
Five great tunes! Thanks for the education. ✌🏽
👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi John. You passed by the debut album by the Texas Tornados in the racks at the record shop. They included Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers of the Sir Douglas Quintet. Also, was that copy of 'Catch A Fire' only £2.50? Surely it wasn't £250? ... I love 'Here Come The Warm Jets'.
Hi Carl. A few people have pointed out that I missed the Texas Tornadoes record. I didn’t know what it was! Yes, Catch A Fire was £250. Although, that appears to be the going price for a decent copy, if you can believe it? Cheers. John
@@6inchpianist I have that Texas Tornados album on CD ... I knew 'Catch A Fire' goes for a lot (due to the cover?). It didn't even look mint condition on your video.
another killer video! Thumbs up! Trish
Thanks Trish! 👍👍
So, just point me to the compilation that has all these on it, and we’re good to go, John. Loved that version of “Dark End of the Street!”
I don’t think I’ve heard a bad version of Dark End Of The Street, Jon. Have you heard Frank Black’s take on it? It’s on his Honeycomb album. Frank does soul.
Another great video and great selection of vinyl too, especially the first tune. The sub-genre of reggae soul covers really does have some fantastic tracks out there, and you chose some gems!
Thanks very much! You can’t beat a good reggae cover version 👍👍
I recognize "Dark End of the Street" from The Commitments! As an American I'm embarrassed to admit that I've learned about a lot of American music from people in the British Isles. You, Madame Cyn, The Commitments, the Stones, Zeppelin...
Hi Maria. We all learn from Madam Cyn 😀
Like that version of Pata Pata. I was just thinking about how I loved the look of those labels and then you said it lol. Great tunes John! Cheers.
Cheers Andy! The cover of Pata Pata isn’t quite as good as the original but it’s close. 👍👍
Totally ignorant as to the origins of the songs but all done in that skinhead reggae style to me. So many subsidiary labels etc... that make that genre so interesting to collect . I managed to pick up some reggae 7" singles myself over the past couple of weeks, including a copy of "Wet Dream" by Max Romeo...only ever owned that one via compilation albums, until now 👍👍👍
Hi Nick. I thought you’d appreciate a few of those. It’s always nice to find reggae 7” singles. There’s a real romance about them. It doesn’t matter if they aren’t in perfect shape. A pops and crackles add to the atmosphere. Cheers!
@@6inchpianist I've no problem with the the odd snap, crackle & pop. I appreciate how difficult it can be to find these records and how expensive some of them are in tip top condition 👍👍👍
I love reggae covers, it is an institution in Jamaica even today, although I don’t think royalties were paid out very often lol My current passion are reggae 12 inch singles from 70’s with the version or dub on the b side, outstanding. I’ve been digging up copies for $2, $5, up to $10 for rare ones
Hi Dean. I’m with you on the reggae 12”s. Those wide grooves make the bass sound even deeper on those dub versions. Cheers! John
Chosen Few? I liked em in the last vid and diggin’ this too.....hiya John cool labels and of course the drops ....🍻 cheers 🍻
Cheers Lis. Yeah, the Chosen Few certainly had the vocal chops. Take care. Cheers!
Great video ❤️
Thanks!
Okay, John. Catching up. Alright then. Will look for that Alton Ellis reissue. Some nice representation in that “expensive stuff” bin in the record shop. I have no solo Morrissey records. I only have Bona Drag on CD. I’ve been watching the Stax documentary on HBO (Max). It’s not thorough enough, but still good. Hope all is well your way. Cheers ✌🏻
Hi Jon. I’ve heard a bit about the Stax doc but haven’t seen it. I’ll definitely check it out at some point. I’ve been spinning quite a bit of southern soul over the past few weeks. The Sweet Inspirations, Isaac Hayes, David Porter - I can feel a Stax video coming on. 👍👍
What's the famous saying "the man who is tired of London is tired of life" well we've been on quite alot of protesting there lately and frankly I'm a bit tired of it..... if i could just shoehorn in some records I'd be awake again. Liking a bit of random modern art too though am jealous of them also just started reading the Kim Gordon autobiography never previously aware she was an artist before sonic youth. Maybe I'm just too much a suburbs boy and a case of London is on my doorstep and it's always there so why rush in? Notting hill downstairs record and tape exchange used to be great.
Hi Martin. I keep meaning to read the Kim Gordon autobiography. She’s a really interesting artist. Have you heard either of her solo albums? I like the bits that I’ve heard. Her last single was played on 6music quite a bit. Cheers!
Hi John, that Chosen Few record you played has some superb vocals. Great that you got the Eno stuff and the Morrissey albums - despite his later records being fairly average his early stuff is brilliant and as you said they bring back wonderful memories. He needs to move back home and get back to reality. We saw the House Of Love live recently in Norwich, superb gig but I haven't got that one on vinyl as yet. We need some more pub jukebox sessions please!
Ha! I’ll try to rope Hedley into doing another pub video 👍
John, that was some nice pick ups. The Chosen Few sounded nice, cool store and that ending, what a great version. cheers!
Nice finds..Good to see The House of Love Butterfly album, I was so into them around 1990, saw them in Brum, very good live. Hope you're keeping well John. Have to go for another beer sometime.
Nice suntan John.
Ha! I got sunburnt watching William play football the weekend we got back. Nothing to do with the holiday 😀
@@6inchpianist Btw, I showed that House of Love LP earlier this year! Great record, beautiful cover.
Some interesting footage from that second hand record store, John. Did I see you flip past the Linda Lewis debut?! You may want to rewind on that...🤔I know what you mean about politically challenged artists. I've never liked Bryan Ferry's views (particularly on fox hunting) but won't let that interfere with listening to the early Roxy Music albums.
Hi Bruce. I agree with you about Bryan Ferry. Those early Roxy albums are wonderful so still regularly get played. Cheers! John
Some lovely finds there. I've been listening to a lot of Eno as well. Had a similar find last year. My current fav is Before and After Science. There is something about Derrick Harriott's productions. Some of it can be a bit too much for me but other recordings are sublime. His dub records are quite strange as well - quite light in places but joyful as well. Especially Scrubbing The Dub. All the best, Steve.
Hi Steve. I don’t know Scrubbing The Dub. I’ll look out for that. I’ve picked up quite a few Derrick Harriott productions over the past few years. The b-sides to those late 60’s/early 70’s singles are always fantastic. Hope all is good with you. Cheers. John
Hi John - I have most of Tom Waits on vinyl, but Swordfishtrombones is probably my favourite album. I saw Lady Blackbird in March 2023 - she was sooo good. Looking forward to her new album. Cheers - D
Hi David. I saw Lady Blackbird at a festival a couple of years ago and her vocals were extraordinary. The handful of tracks on the promo that I showed are rally nice so the album can’t come soon enough. Cheers! John
Yeah the house of love and Mozza ! ❤
Hi Gav. I knew you’d appreciate some U.K. indie 👍👍
