Not many tunes about grandmothers? Country music's full of em. If they're not banging on about their Daddy or Mother, they tearfully remember their dead Grannies. Willie Nelson does a nice duet of Grandma's Hands with Mavis Staples on his To All The Girls..., an album of duets with female singers.
Evening John. I was just thinking about Merry Clayton the other day as I was doing a compare-contrast with two copies of Let it Bleed I have. Didn't realise she'd lost both her legs in a car crash. Don't think I've ever clapped eyes on one of her records. Nice selection. Cheers.
I'm not a vinyl collector (CD only), but I watched your feed and thanks for the reminders and intros to these artists, not only here, but on your other feeds as well !
These have all been issued on cd but rather limited. Reissues like these when they go out of print can usually fetch between $20-50. I'm cd only and have 80,000 titles all classic soul and jazz. I don't have much from the last 30 years but all of this is pressed in low numbers because the music wasn't current when cd was issued. Jazz is easier to collect than the soul. For awhile I thought I was the only one out there going for oddball groups and acts Curtis Mayfield produced and all of these session singers like the ones shown here.
I mention another cover of “Grandma’s Hands” in an upcoming video. In relation to a group that is known more for their backing vocals. How about that? Great selections. Great video. ✌🏻
Hi John, greetings from Copenhagen... no records sadly. I went past Paname City, but it's closed until the end of the month. Probably just as well because it's not cheap out here. Never mind thoigh, it's a great city. Lovely needle drops. That last one was brilliant. All the best, Laurence
Kieran turned me onto Merry Clayton years ago but have not run into her records in the bins here. I think Jon just got one from a Carolina Soul auction for a good deal. Cheers.
Nice to listen to grandma’s hands without people talking about No Diggity. Never knew that about brown sugar. Will definitely give that a go and the Clydie Kling sounds nice too.
Some great tracks. I’m all about the lost gems at the moment. ‘Get It Up for Love’ by David Cassidy & Cliff Richard’s ‘Ease Along’ are top of my list at the moment.
Ha! I’m quite partial to Cliff’s “Green Light”. I only know the Ned Doheny version of “Get It Up For Love”, which is a yacht rock classic. Will give Dave’s version a listen 👍
Hey now John👋🏻wow learning right outta the gate😳😮I did not know the first lady wow great track too👏🏻absolutely love Grandmas hands by Bill, ooo yes she funks it up now🎶d@mn fine video cheers 🍻 John 👋🏻✊🏻☮️😎🎶🍻
These artists didn't translate because much of their music was covers. What was going on in Philly around this time was what was happening. Black radio never liked to play music that sounded dated except on Sunday of course and then those were older hits and not current.

Thanks John for completely showing up my total lack of knowledge of soul 👍

Loved the sound of Merry Clayton’s voice. A new artist to me so will be checking her out. Cheers John 🙏👍
Hi Andy. Merry Clayton made a few lovely albums in the 70’s. Give her version of Gimme Shelter a listen on CZcams. Cheers!

Have a fantastic time, Laurence. I love Copenhagen. It’s a shame that Paname City wasn’t open but you’ve certainly saved yourself a few quid 👍👍

I'll definitely be on the lookout for the Clydie King album after hearing that needle drop John...
Hi Dale. The Clydie King is a really good listen. And it’s the cheapest of the three 👍

This doesn't help, John! I'm still on the lookout out for that Merry Clayton album. No luck yet, now even more people hunting for it ;) Cheers. /Paul
Ha! I don’t think my handful of viewers will reduce your chances of finding a copy, Paul 😀

I’m not familiar with Clydie King.
