Hello John ! My friend, Mark ( Mad 4 Vinyl ) shows some very nice 45's.. and it's his main thing, really ! I love that Style Council sleeve ( Don't have it ).. and Paul Weller is really terrific ! " It Just Came To Pieces" Cool !! ✌
Good selection John, I've always been into B-sides. It's been said before, but Macca buried a lot of his best stuff 'on the flip'. When I was a kid I had a cousin in Scotland who had a phobia of listening to the B-sides of his singles for some reason, so one day me and his older brother physically held him down and made him listen to one. He wasn't best pleased. Nice to see a genuine Postcard 45!
Some great shows and plays there John , the ' Berts Apple Crumble ' , ' Song For My Father ' and the awesome ' It Just Came To Pieces In My Hands ' ........ nice one 👍
i'm a fan of orange juice, the style council, scott walker, prince AND aztec camera. i've watched you discuss prince before with NM but never dreamed you'd never been to paisley park. you should go. i mention the scottish and british acts because i clearly viewed that stuff living in the states the same way you did price living in britian. i thought i would have seen roddy frame by now. he complimented another minneapolis artist (paul westerberg) long ago and i hold him in high regard. the criterion blu-ray set of shaft has nice special feature about isaac hayes and the movies look wonderful!@@6inchpianist
Oh wow, you drop needles! Love it! The Quik is a good one. The bulk of my collection is 7"'s. Probably because I have Vienna sausages for fingers so I can actually hold them. The Paul Weller stuff is sooooooo good! Nice video. Cheers!
Love this, definitely a favourite theme for me! Got me thinking... found plenty of great b sides over the last couple of years. So made a playlist and would have left a link to it if CZcams didn't keep deleting it. Guess you can find it by just looking on this channel if you're interested!? Cheers
The Scott Walker tune is a great pick. I think it is the first track on Boy Child. I need to dig out some B sides - they are often the equal or better.
Hi Steve. I only picked up the Scott 7” earlier in the year. Had never heard The Plague before. It’s fast become one of my favourite songs by Scott. Hope all is good with you. Cheers. John
Hey Steve. B-sides used to be so important. Hearing a great b-side could make you stick with that artist for years to come. Weller is a perfect example. Cheers!
Nice one John - my first record purchases were also 45's and it was interesting to hear the b sides which were often quite different or didn't appear anywhere else. Would love to own that Derrick Morgan piece one day, for his side though the Roland Alphonso is brilliant as well. Cheers!
Hi Doug. The Derrick Morgan side is great but the Roland Alphonso version of Song For My Father has really got me. I’d never heard it before. The piece really suits the reggae style. Lovely playing too. Cheers!
Some great tunes there John. Bert's Apple Crumble is great but I only have it on a mod CD comp unfortunately...Wow never heard the Plague before, very good...Ooh I need to dig out my copy of Solid Bond.. now - cheers Dale
Hi Dale. Solid Bond is a fantastic 7”. Both tracks are a treat. Weller knew how to put out a good 45. I think it’s that level of quality, and the fact that he cared about stuff like b-sides, that made people stay with him. I’ve played those two tracks a lot over the past few weeks 👍
I’ve never been one for playing B sides, apart from a handful of exceptions- Ask Any Girl by Diana Ross comes to mind. Maybe I should revisit some ! Cheers John. 🙂
Some corkers here. Never heard The Plague before. Only Scott Walker could pull off that kind of subject matter without sounding pretentious. Great score with an OG of The Quik!
I only have the Scott Walker one. First one was awesome. There's more skill picking 7"s than albums with less information on them and often more a feeling than book knowledge separating your Beatles pressings and deadwax etc. True, you can make more mistakes but it's more fun talking chances and often they are cheaper. Cheers John.
Hi Martin. Yes, 45’s are definitely more fun to take a chance on. As you say, they’re often cheaper too. I’ve been to car boots this year where sellers have individually priced the LP’s but just chucked the 7”s in a box at 50p each. Found some interesting bits and bobs. We need more 45’s in the VC! Cheers 👍👍
Good one I'll add Magazine - Give me everything backed with a cover of Captain Beefhearts I love you you big dummy. Also b side to George Harrison's Bangladesh is one of his best - Deep Blue

That version of Song For My Father was a cracker.

Yeah, Macca put some gems on the flip. Particularly on the singles from Macca 2. 👍👍

Cheers Rich!
Really love that Orange Juice track! Great band. I also really like The Style Council too 👍
Hi Brian. I’ve always preferred the Style Council to The Jam. Shhh! Don’t tell anyone 😀

Prince (not price)!

Hey! I’ll check out your playlist on your channel 👍
Groovy needle drops! Thumbs up! Trish
Cheers Trish! Hope you’re doing ok 👍

Wow! That Weller track sounds a bit like Next Plane to London by The Rose Garden. Cool B (and A) side!
Another great video. Apparently there are a few45s I'm going to have to add to my collection next year.
Hi John, great idea for a thread. I love the choices you came up with. You are right in regards to The Jam. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Steve

Marc Almond covered The Plague as well. Obviously a major fan of that single! 😉
Hi Brian. I didn’t realise that. Thanks for the heads up!
I’ve never been one for playing B sides, apart from a handful of exceptions- Ask Any Girl by Diana Ross comes to mind. Maybe I should revisit some ! Cheers John. 🙂
C’mon Andy! You’ve always gotta check out the b-side! 😀
Some corkers here. Never heard The Plague before. Only Scott Walker could pull off that kind of subject matter without sounding pretentious. Great score with an OG of The Quik!
Hi John. I think the Scott Walker 7” is pretty cheap. Definitely worth picking up for the b-side! Cheers. John
I found a brilliant Willie Hutch single recently. B-Side superior to the A. Walking On My Love. So Dope.
Hey Dave. You can’t go wrong with Willie Hutch!
I only have the Scott Walker one. First one was awesome.

@@6inchpianist we do. I reckon sometime I'll cobble together a ton (100) singles - unless I get invited to the pub jukebox (hint hint) 🙃😉
@@Thevinylscavenger Ha! We’ll have to sort that out, Martin. And a VC meet up 👍
Good one
I'll add Magazine - Give me everything backed with a cover of Captain Beefhearts I love you you big dummy.

Hi Mark. Yeah, I really like Deep Blue. Definitely better than the a-side 👍
