It’s interesting when a popular soul song gets a reggae interpretation or version it’s very catchy. I find myself listening to the reggae version more often sometimes. Great finds John….✌
Hi there John, I'm following your channel quite a while now, because I'm a reggae fan myself and your finds are really interesting. England is still a place to make amazing loot (not like Germany where I am from... sadly). Two things I wanted to add concerning this video, although i guess I'm telling you nothing new: there is a version of 'ain't no woman' on the Skabeana LP (and as 12") by Alton Ellis called 'ain't no music' , which is exceptional in its way, harmonies by the Heptones! And secondly: 'reasons is sung by Derrick Lara, drummer of 7th Extension Band. This one really amazes me, never heard of it, absolutely outstanding! Thanks for sharing and: keep going!
Fantastic subject matter, takes me back to all the Caribbean parties I played in the 90’s around the London home counties. I loved how a word in the song title would slightly be changed such as Sweet Love by Anita Baker would become Sweeter Love, but same song. Someone should do a feature on how collectible Reggae is, especially Roots Reggae and Dub.
Hey. Yeah, I love the way that reggae artists mess with soul tunes. As you say, the smallest change can give the song a totally different feel. More reggae videos to come! Cheers. John
Some great choices... there is another great lovers version of don't let it go to your head by the rather confusingly named black harmony... a bit more funky swing to it. Cheers!
You should check out a new record that just came out from Victor Axelrod - he takes modern Daptone and old soul re issues from Charles Bradley, Sharon Jones and Bob and Gene and uses the vocal tracks and lays down new rocksteady reggae underneath with a group called the inversions - Really awesome stuff. Record just came out on Daptone records it’s a compilation of 45s they already released.
Love your platform blessings
So many soul songs covered in reggae literally hundreds. Love the Cornel Campbell - Stars, playing in the background, great song. Good topic...
So many Lovers Rock tunes, were soul classics, love the artwork on the 12" some well very saucy.
Hey! Yeah, some of the reggae artwork can be a bit close to the line. It’s part of the charm thought. Cheers. John

Hey John. There are some brilliant reggae covers of soul tunes. I’ll have to dig some more out! Cheers. John

Hey Laurence. I don’t know that version. Will check it out. The Jean Caen version is wonderful but the song certainly works in a lovers style. Cheers
I think it’s by “Harmony Black”.....
Yeah Heptones nail it. Wow.

Someone should release the Small Axe movie soundtrack on vinyl, that UK reggae film by Steve McQueen, that would be 🔥🔥🔥🇯🇲
