I stopped using Avid a long time ago, not really sure why anyone uses it. Avid has the worst UI, doesn’t look like it was built in modern times, almost as bad as AWS.. I’d rather use Logic or Luna. Also what did you expect since Avid was bought .. anytime an inexperienced company purchases such a business it starts to cut corners and sets a new path towards bankruptcy..

My 2019 MacBook Pro wont handle software instruments any more. If Apollo can't solve my problem what should i do? Is there a particular iMac people in the industry use? Or are there specific specs? What is the answer to the CPU question?

MIDI is ancient. New kid on the block is OSC for decades now. Oh wait...Pro Tools doesn't support this either. .... Honestly, either management or devs working at Avid must be incompetent. Implementing a simple OSC lib would be a month worth of work for one dev at best. Improvements could be added over time then.

M-Audio MIDI will not work with latest PT? My original PT buy (like 13 years ago) included an "M-Box Mini" and "Oxygen 49" MIDI keyboard which was a PITA to get it to work in PT. Whatever, after so long the keyboard still works just fine with Studio One Pro. Just plug it in, no additional drivers, I even mapped the controls easily to S1. Yet one more reason to ignore all of the "please buy an upgrade plan for your perpetual license" emails from PT. I didn't even load PT on my latest studio computer, built in 2020.

Barry you really need to explain yourself please. Many of us are confused at what you're trying to say. What did Avid do? They stopped supporting some MIDI drivers is the only piece of context you mention. What MIDI did they stop supporting?

I saw the writing on the wall ages ago and split rapidly. 20+ years with Avid/Digidesign ended in an instant and never looked back. They discontinued support of my hardware, the software was unstable. Paid big for an upgrade, new iLok, NO improvement. Then, fighting with it for a year, new release out, can't update since I'm just days out of support now. What, they want another $800? Was on the phone talking to a rep, and after getting that answer, I was "No thank you. I can't justify spending that kind of money anymore. I won't be upgrading." It's been over 8 years, maybe closer to 10, and I don't miss it. People need to walk away from this sinking ship. They keep jabbing at their user-base by taking away something and then forcing them them buy something or bad licensing models. Those are red flags.

Elitist Avid. I turned my back on them years ago. I used to teach Pro Tools at Full Sail. But Avid was so determined to steamroller their (heavily) paying customers that I tossed my whole system and started again with Steinberg and RME. The only company I can even remotely compare them to is Gibson, the destroyer of all they acquire.

I was updated to 2024.3 but had to revert back to Protools 2023.12.1 just for my M Audio to work because they removed the driver.. I feel what you are saying 💯.. They could have at least mentioned it when the latest update came out.. After searching and I finally found some posts about it. The Mulligan site tells it all, too...

i've used Steinberg Nuendo and Cubase on a PC for the last 20 years and never looked back. Up until Protools HD, Steinberg sounded better in my opinion.

WAIT! I haven't used my Arturia mini-keys in a bit. I tried last night with no luck. Is there a work-around? Is my keyboard now obsolete? I also updated an old account of mine back to perpetual. I had created another account and was paying monthly. Now I'm paid up for the year using my old account (I had my sub account removed) but now it seems I'm on ProTools Ultimate. Hasn't been particularly reliable lately. But it's what I know best. Love this channel. Thanks for keeping folks like me in the loop. HOPING my keyboard isn't useless in PT.

I was freaking out and reset so much of my hardware and software just to realize it was because avid all of a sudden stopped supporting the driver for my akai mpk249.

There's a *rightful* stigma in the synth world when buying anything Behringer, because they are an atrocious company ethically, they'll clone indie-developed modular gear which *hasn't* been discontinued and mass-market it for cheaper, effectively quashing new talent / innovation, and they're just horrible for synthesis as a whole. It's not like cloning production / mixing gear when the manufacturer no longer has any interest in marketing gear for normal folks and only prices for the elite (seemingly like Neve), or cloning something from the 70s from a now-defunct manufacturer.

A number of years ago I got sick and tired of software updates and forced upgrades and expensive hardware that goes obsolete. Switched back to two inch.

The AVID MIDI i/o 10x 10 was killed . Perfectly good piece of hardware useless in my rack because they were too cheap to write new drivers. SHAME !

This is a prime example for why you should NEVER have loyalty to a corporation or its brand. YOUR SOFTWARE, DAW, GUITARS, AMPS, GEAR, ETC. IS A MEANS TO AN END. That's it.

U use Reaper because its simple and I have ZERO money. Like about to get evicted zero money. I think if I had the money I would use Studio One.

Unless I misunderstood you when I do a profile of one of my amps, when I change the noise gate or the gain the profiled amp will respond just like my real tube amp.

MIDI is ancient though. It’s time to let go. There are devices out there with much better integration and workflows. This is like getting mad at Apple for no longer supporting floppy disks. I rather have these companies focused on improving advanced workflows than supporting 80s tech.

I'm stuck with PT: I need to be able to scale my tempo map, tempo curves don't suit beat based music, classical and film yes. I need to be able to select a ramp *a different tempo per bar) and with minimal operation, vary the ramp's steepness from either the front and/or end of the selection: only pt does this. Please correct me if I'm wrong

Avid is the epitome of a stereotypical, greedy company. I’ve hated them for a long time. I’m 100% done with them. Nuendo fits the bill for me 👍

The problem is you still use it... Just stop using it and spend your money elsewhere. I used to use protools until the hardware and software kept crashing every single time i wanted to just jam into my computer. Then when i wanted to use support they would make me pay for that too. HA! Well I switched over to ableton and I get no crashes and the support that i dont have to use is free. Oh and its a million times more UI friendly. Avid sucks. Shit doesn't even sound that good.

Great video. I've always liked Avid. Thanks for that quick run through on the dock. I can see it being overwhelming. Avid should have some courses available that really show you how to take advantage of everything it offers.
