I am an old motorcycle mechanic who has now reached that part of his life that means I can spend time and energy doing things for fun, rather than trying to earn money to pay bills and all the other things that are life.
I am passionately interested in the first and second world wars. I love going to the places and experiencing the events that happened there. We have been to the Somme and Normandy amongst others, and really enjoyed it. We are going to go to Arnham, and the dams raided by the dam busters. We are hoping to go there this year, and I am hoping to make a film of the event.
The plan is to enjoy what is there to be seen, but also to enjoy the ride and the companionship of my friends.
Being able to have a laugh, is also very important. Come along with us and enjoy the time.

What engine cleaner do you use?
Hi, I have tried loads of different types of engine cleaner. The one I always use now is Carplan engine cleaner. It isn't cheap about £28 a gallon. But it works superbly.
Where did you buy the diaphragms and rebuild kits?
It took a long time to find someone who could supply the right diaphragms for these carbs. I use a company on the internet who supply diaphragms for loads of different carbs. I sent them pictures with dimensions etc from the carbs I was rebuilding. They had a good research and finally found the diaphragms that I needed. I can't remember their name but I will have a look for the receipt and let you know.
Hi I’ve got the head off a R1150GS, any idea how to strip the old paint? Thanks
Hi, that's a good question, not very easy to answer though. The paint on these heads is very difficult to remove. It does flake and peel, but you can remove the flaking bits, but you won't get the good paint off. The only way is to get it blasted, or remove as much as you can then, rub the rest down to get the best surface for a re-paint. Not easy, you can make it look ok but it is a long job.
@@RestorationBiker Thanks for the reply. I have just contacted motorworks for a quote on a replacement head. The paint on them is almost as tough as the magnesium alloy they are made of. The bike is a beautiful piece of engineering shame they designed them to dissolve in the rain.

Well done, I bet that was a great feeling getting your old bike back. I saw one of my old bikes up for sale a few years ago, and I didn't buy it even though my wife urged me to do so. I really wish I had because I had done so much work to it.

Bon jour mon ami. These bikes are superb. You can still get all of the parts for these easily. They are quite cheap to buy and maintain. They ride brilliantly, I love them. Cost for one at the moment in England (may be different in France) is about £1500 - £2000 for a nice one in good condition, about 1995-99. And, yes they are brilliantly reliable. With the pipes, could you cut and reshape the originals and just add the existing connector to it? It looks like they can be loosened and removed from the pipe?
Yes you could, but if you are 'removing' the ABS you can get rid of so much unnecessary pipework. Makes it much easier to bleed too with less pipes for air to get stuck into.
Thanks. I was thinking of cutting the pipe to the correct length and just moving the connector to the new end and then getting rid of all the other pipework like you said.
@@mattwilson6276 Yes, I used to make brake pipes all the time for cars when I was an MOT tester. The two little pipes that are needed for the ABS removal as I showed in the video would be dead easy to make. Perhaps I should make some and sell them on ebay!!!

Yes the disc mustn't be binding!!
Does anyone know the release date?
Of what? You've got me there. Did I say something in the video which I have totally forgotten about??
nice work.
Hi, thanks for your continued support.
I have the same bike and sometimes itsreally hard to steer the bike. I'm not to sure why would you have any ideas as to why?
Hi, When you put the bike on the centre stand and get someone to lean on the rear so that the front wheel is off the ground. The wheel should easily fall from lock to lock with only gentle persuasion.. If it doesn't then the fault is either in the top bearing, or the lower joint inbetween the fork legs. I have done a video on changing the top fork yoke bearing, not yet done one on the lower bearing as they rarely need replacing. If this all checks out ok then the problem, will probably be in the tele-lever set up at the rear. I think it will be one of the bearings though. Have a look and then get back to me, and I will help you.
You are mistaken, this is not fake! You need to watch all the videos in the Suzuki GS500 series. They show the bike as it was bought. All the various stages of the rebuild were shown too. Yes the cost was much more than what the bike was worth, but that is WHY I do motorcycle restoration. Because I LIKE to rebuild things for the pleasure of the rebuild. I don't do it to earn big money. To me there is no point doing a bike like the Suzuki GS500 if you want to make money. You would have to do a Suzuki GT750, or a Kawasaki Z900. Neither of these bikes I want to restore, because they are for the greedy type of restorer. I am a motorcycle restorer, I am a retired motorcycle mechanic who likes to do a nice job, purely for the satisfaction of restoring the machine. Look at some more of my videos before you make a judgement. There are a lot of fake restoration channels out there. This one isn't one of them.
@@RestorationBiker Danke für die Antwort! Da war ich wohl etwas vorschnell in meiner Meinung!
@@MrKlassikfreund No problem, I can see how you would think what you did. There are plenty of people who do fake videos. But I love restoring things. It is great now that I can do videos of my work. That GS500 did come out very well. But it cost a lot of money to do it.

Yes, they are superb bikes go on forever.
Had a few bikes when I was younger but didn't actually do my bike test until I was 25 so did the direct full power licence and bought a Suzuki GS500 as my first bike on the road.
Hi, brilliant, having a GS500 was a bit of a power surge wasn't it as your first bike. My 250cc (knackered) two stroke was bloody powerful to me. By the time I got to a 500, I had had a bit of experience, but the 500 seemed awesomely fast

Brilliant, many thanks
Try cutting a tiny slit in that snapped bolt then heating it up before trying to take it out or a bolt extractor before drilling it out. nice job sofar though bud
Yes, thanks for the tip. Always a pain when you get a snapped bolt.
I am buying a 2004 1150rt tomorrow. I have not seen it in person yet, but this video really REALLY gave me some peace of mind. I have been on,around, working on, cleaning bikes since I was a kid and I have never owned a BMW. After a million videos, I arrived at the conclusion that this model would be a safe bet. Fortunately, the bike only has 24 thousand miles so, other than the normal, and in addition to the rubber, I cant think of anything else to check. Thank you again!
Brilliant, glad my video helped you. You will find that the BMW will grow on you the more you ride it. The first time I rode one I thought "What an old tractor" But I had borrowed the bike I was using which made me feel like that. When I gave it back and started riding another bike I really missed it. So, I bought one. Now I have owned loads of the oilhead bikes. I think they can't be beat. Buy it, ride it, and see how it grows on you. If you have any problems or questions feel free to contact me on here and if I can help I will.

Fascinating vid. As an old Biker/ Non stipendiary Priest, I have found many interesting items in Churches. Two near me in Norfolk are ! In Downham Market is displayed a Venetian glass chandalier from the 1700s found hidden in the bell tower, no one knows how or when it got there. 2 in Stow Bardolf Church, also from the 1700s, there is a waxwork funeral effigy of Lady Sarah Hare, very life like and in a glass fronted case, it has given a few visitors a bit of a turn when they suddenly come across it in the vestry.
Wow, it is amazing what is all around us. I used to take part in a Round Britain Rally (RBR) it is still going. You have to find about 90 items all over the UK. Some are amazing. Starts in April, and ends in november. You have to get as many as you can.

Just up the road at Leiston, is the Long Shop Museum which is sited in the former Richard Garrett and Sons former Works. The Museum has a number of artefacts related to Zeppelin L48 including original material and personal effects, and items fashioned from airframe aluminium.
