  • Project GS. I have had this bike for ages and have been doing a little bit to it when I feel like it. It has been left for ages sometimes before I have another 'go' at it. But the amazing thing is!!! It is finished, and I have ridden it, yes I have done 57 miles on it amazing eh!
But, now I am going to use it as my first bike, if I go anywhere it will be on the GS. It rides really well. We are moving into the riding season here in the UK. So, it makes sense to get out on it.

Did you know that BMW R1100RS was the predecessor of the R1100GS and during it's development they went offroad on the test tracks.
The street bike was build with offroad capacities in mind. the BMW 1993 marketing video for the R1100RS shows this, check it out.
To bad they didn't make spoked 17 inch front so it could be used on the RS otherwise i would use them.
You got a luxury variant witch the 'fairing' on the frontfork, you should remove the telelever swingarm, i bought a R1150 Rockster swingarm with is close like 20 years old now, from the 4 bearings inside one was lightly 'squared' preventing rotation of the axle.
You need 4 bearing, 2 rubber rings and 2 new seals, you should probably jam pack the whole assembly from all sides with Vaseline to prevent moisture from getting in. Nice bike.

Hi yes you are right there. I had a very early RS many years ago. A great bike too. It had the M93 gearbox, which made it a great bike to ride. I later put an M93 box into a later RT. Totally different bike. Wish I still had it!!

@@RestorationBiker After i posted the comment, i rechecked the old bearings again and all 4 have this flat spot and have some play. probably from just standing around. i think generous coat of Vaseline around the cap and seal on the inside will do the trick.
I have bought R1150RS gearbox (with long gears, >'04) and frame to have hydraulic clutch, but it takes lot of parts to do this, basically everything on the handlebars and also the lines for it are expensive, the 20 cm long bleeder pipe!!!
      Also wheels and bigger brakes.
I'm curious how this rides when I'm done.
I'm also gonna use RnineT handle bars with custom made risers using the original triple tree, although i got new rubber mounts for the handle bars they just don't cut it.

@@AnalogDude_ Wow you are really getting involved. Sounds great. Let me know how you get on, would love to see it when it is done.

@@RestorationBiker A German BMW dealer until recently had great parts catalog with all bikes, now they removed the 93 to 2001 bikes, so i could compare with fits and not. The 2001 R1150R model came with 2 telelever swingarm, the default and the nice one, so i knew they where equal accept for appearance.
the gearbox was story on some forum and via a German bike wrecker i found the frame, fairly cheap.

      @@RestorationBiker Do you know: Baboon?
a motorcycle salvage yard, they call themself the biggest from Europe. but apparently most GS are still on the 'road' or heavily restored, looked after. i check the offerings last night, no frames or gearboxes for R1150GS.
