Basically you don't need to justify yourself, why, what is the reason, and so on. But you do 😂 These bikes are more limited than regular ones IMHO. If you want to ride something really different and delightful in a strange way, try Yedoo or similar kick scooter. This feeling is different and even more unique and exclusive. And it's completely gearless! Next level, no chain, no problem! 😉
If you like kick bikes, that’s great!
@addvurtbikes really, jokes aside - if you'll have opportunity, just try it. It's a lot of fun. Actually I'd like to try fixed gear bike, but my area is hilly as hell.
@@igorpust6400 i would try anything with wheels! I’ve had a lot of fun with simpler kick bikes in my life. The bigger wheels look like fun.
If you like to go fast put a brake on. Dont test your luck.
Yeah, hand brakes are a good idea after all
im just waiting for my custom frame to be done, now im thinking how to develop that technique to flip the pedals to shoot your shoes on the strap or cage lol
Nice! Yeah the pedal flipping can be difficult but also really satisfying! My strap pedals was less spinny, so I just kinda waited for it to rotate into position :)

Same thoughts about harsh ride feeling. Using 25mm rear and 23mm front.

Very impressed with the power transfer that is possible with cleats on. Also doubting if I have an advantage with the larger foot platform I'm getting with the PD-A600...
oh geez I can never remember the names. I have tried 3 Shimano ones. The big combo platform/spd, the small double spd, and the single-sided spd in this video. Yeah I think it feels amazing, the only thing I want straps for right now is doing jumps in a skate park :D

@@addvurtbikes alright tq for lmk. 🙌🏼
im riding 50/14 at the moment so i cant really skid since the gear ratio is to big for me
that's a very high ratio! sounds very hard to skid, yes. but very high top speed!
for me...fixie with wide tyre its good...coz u can ride anywhere
Yeah. That is really good.
The point about rotational weight is excellent. One more note regarding it, the smaller your tire diameter the less rotational mass you will have. So if you want to try wide try fixed gear 650b aka 27.5 inch wheels+tires are a good choice.
That makes sense! I hadn't thought about it though. The Skream Ranger that I tried in Vienna had 650b and 45 mm tires :)
I kinda wonder how a Fixie Fatbike would handle, maybe with a 2:1 gearing or something like that.
Spin to win! Would probably be really freaking cool. Go brakeless in the sand.
Of course, mine fixie can fix 35mm at least, and now i fit 32mm front and rear that's soooooo good.
Sounds great! I am interested in 32 millimeter GP5000....
@@addvurtbikes Please just don't. I will say 32mm pro one and 32mm sworks mondo are much better.
What size of the tire is it 700x32?
In this video, I am riding 42 millimeters. I guess it would be called 622x42? Diameter terms confuse me.
@@addvurtbikes ohh like i get it alright thanks kmma try that to my bike
Great insights! I built a FG with a 90's MTB frame. Run WTB byway 47 tyres on 650b rims. I don't do mountain bike trails but find it's good for off-road and small jumps, and the semi-slick center on these tyres means minimal rolling resistance on road. I have WTB resolut 42's which are more knobbly and great for wet off-road riding, but the bigger byways are a better fit for my riding thanks to the thread pattern
That sounds like a really cool bike! I would love to see it!
Tried from 23-622 to 32-622. Will be staying on 28 for city cruising.

Ive been subscribed for about a month now and i want to go fixed but i dont really know how to ride a bike do you think i shoud start fixed or not?
Thanks! It's probably a lot easier to learn with a freewheel bike first. But if you are going to learn on a fixed gear bike, make sure you have handbrakes, and maybe ride without foot retention for a while.
What wears down on fixed gear
Chains, tires, and knees :)
Breakless = i dont care if i crash into you... but if I'm in the right, I'll get pissed off at you
I don’t think anybody wants to crash
I have MTB cleats on my fixed gear with a gear ratio of 53/13 my tension is Almost maxed out although it's quite hard to Clip in but it's worth it because less clip out while drifting and skidding
That’s the highest gear ratio I’ve ever heard anyone use. Glad you like the cleats!
@@addvurtbikes nah it's actually the lowest gear ratio here
No brakes + no straps is dumb, in my humble opinion.
I think you mean no brakes + no foot retention. And I agree, that would be dumb as hell. I’m using SPD pedals.
@@addvurtbikes Exactly. Sorry mate, I did not notice the SPDs.
All good! I wish I had mentioned it. I left a couple of things out of the video that I should have said. Instead I made another video about foot retention :)
@@addvurtbikes Nice one! Yes I think it makes a huge difference. Foot retention - and appropriate skills and fitness - make it not brakeless actually :) Most people in Holland ride with a torpeedo brake only, which is as or even a little less efficient than a skid.
That’s interesting. I would love to ask people what they think about that. Fixed vs coaster brake.
fixed gear is about "without brakes"🤔
Fixed gear is about fixed gears. Handbrakes are optional, but not very fun to use.
Why would asking questions and making comparisons to other bikes "give you the hint you're never gonna get through to that person"? ngl sounds a bit cult-like lol
This is actually a good question. Let me get back to you. There is a chance that I simply expressed myself poorly, but I think my point was that a lot of people have a hard time understanding what I like about fixed gear, and at some point in a discussion I start feeling that I wont be able to convey it even if I keep trying.
I forgot to elaborate here. You’re right. There is nothing wrong with asking more questions and comparing. Thats a good thing. But if I’m trying to explain the joy of fixed gear, some people will never get it, and that’s okay, but there are certain give-aways that this person is or is not open to this kind of thing. That’s all.
@@addvurtbikes I was only teasing, but thank you for your thoughtful response!
I need foot retension. Ive used Clipless, Fixie Straps and Toe Clips on my fixed bikes. Id rank them as Clipless for most control on speed up and stopping. Fixie Straps next. Once you get used to them they can be very good with control and stopping. Toe Clips come in last as far as these options. I recently purchased some one sided spd pedals with a flat pedal on one side. This way if i want to pedal around or make a quick run on not to demanding roads. I can pedal of in my sneakers boots sandals slippers.
that’s great! I really like combo pedals too, what they offer is genius
I know clipless is more efficient, but I'm still a firm clipless hater for most riders. The ability to wear anything and still be able to ride is heavily underrated. Back when I thought I cared about cycling gear, I bought shorts, jerseys, borrowed some clipless shoes and pedals, got into Strava and stuff, and guess what? I barely ever rode. It always felt like a chore, and all the efficiency gains were lost (time wise) by me wasting time changing clothes. Many "serious cyclists" don't realise that it's not the be all, end all. I'm much happier ignoring my stats and riding in an open button up shirt and god damn jorts haha But I'm still massively in favor of any sort of foot retention. Currently have straps on all 3 of my bikes, want to try out cages. Great vid as always!
Yeah, you are completely right! Every complication takes you one step further from just riding. I just came back from a fun ride on the tracklocross in a sweater and casual shorts. I originally intended to just ride down to the store for a snack, but I ended up riding around for half an hour because the bike felt amazing :) I am terrified of Strava, because I know what can happen to me when I gamify aspects of my life. I have so far never measured any riding, and as long as I have fun, I won't. Might turn that discussion into a video :) Thank you for watching and writing!!!
@@addvurtbikes Oh, that'd be a great video! this topic is near and dear to my heart, mostly due to me spending tons of time on cycling subreddits, which are super American focused, and they don't seem to get any sort of casual cycling or cycling as transportation haha
"Don't follow me on Strava" or "Strava, not even once" :)
@@addvurtbikes Haha, can't wait to find either one of the titles come up in my notifs :D If I had to pick though, the 2nd option fits better :D
How do you add clips on a shoe? Thats a question I been asking since I first saw it.
You do not add cleats on a shoe.. the shoe comes with them pre installed. The shoes that he has are called "Velosamba" from Adidas.. I have them as well, and they are quite good. May be not very comfortable for walking very long distances, but for a day to day commute they are great. I go to the gym with them, then ride to work, I use them at work, and then ride back home. Between 9000 - 12000 steps per day with them, plus riding, and they feel okay.
Yeah, you buy cycling shoes that are designed to have cleats installed under them. The Velosambas didn't actually come with cleats, I had to buy them separately.
Really? Meaningful? Did it gave your life meaning? Did it change how you view the world? Knowing finally the meaning of love? Really?
Fixed gear certainly adds meaning to my life, and it changes how I view the world. About the meaning of love, that's a different subject.

@@turbo_nerd86 But foot retention is what makes fixed gear meaningful :D You're better off with a freewheel if you don't have foot retention. Btw, who are "you guys"?
the only way to make a fixed gear meaningful is by going on a velodrome. The free wheel was invented 150 years ago, fixed gears on open roads is just for plain morons that wants to show off.

@@cristianturcios6667its an everyone in your vicinity problem! it aint about weight, as far as i can tell its about 'purity' and asthetics. i can see the appeal but it is at the expense of emergency stopping power, you can ride as though it isn't there, though i know having the option probably changes the feeling. cant shake the feeling that they are shallow reasons to increase your risk of hurting someone, especially given the bike likely comes with one. famously, the guy in london that killed an old lady cos he couldnt stop in time riding brakeless.

No lmao that’s the point. U pull up and down and you’ll be in. U turn ur foot to the right and it’ll uncllip. Especially with SPD those keep you locked in and forward. I used to ride fixed for years and SPD are bullet. They last forever and hold tight. When u have to unclip they’re not gonna be hard to get out of

It's not optional on a fixed gear
agreed
I just converted my fixed gear to clipless and I’m excited to actually try them. So far I’ve only ridden around the intersection outside my house and I feel like I have a lot more control
let’s goooo! remember to practice some extra clipping out and in while riding so you have done it many times when you suddenly need to :)
got a pair of velosambas last week, they're great. big improvement over straps in terms of force transfer. it does feel different when pulling up/skidding, with straps it felt more like trying to lift a kettlebell with your foot where clipless feels more like you're trying really hard to pull your foot out of your shoe. after getting used to that change my skids and climbs are much more powerful. i was also surprised that once you get used to unclipping, it feels faster and safer pushing your foot out and away from your bike then back and then to the side if you're falling sideways. that said there's obviously tons of amazing riders who prefer straps and can bail out quickly. been really enjoying your fixed gear journey and have got lots of good tips along the way! thank you!
The shoes are pretty awesome, right?? I love the kettlebell analogy! thank you for watching and writing!
Now i want to finish building my fixed gera😢

I understand. The only specific thing that you REALLY need to find is a rear wheel with a fixed cog. Once you have that, you can use an old road bike or something for the rest of the bike.
Where do you live? Where I'm from is also a bit tough in regards to getting fixed gear specific parts, so I can relate lol
@@MarchuxProductions i live in Turkey you might know the economy is really bad and as far as i know there are no biking culture other than mtb which they dont even use it on trails it is what it is man i gotta figure something out
Two years ago I signed up to a bike tour holiday with 15 other people I didn’t know. The tour was Portugal end to end. I was 65 years old at the time. I took my 30 year old Raleigh Pioneer fixed gear conversion. I changed the gearing to 48/22 to enable me to get up the hills. Other participants turned up with their Dogmas and S works tarmacs. The question why always comes up. I just tell them that It’s the difficulty level that gives such a massage sense of achievement and above all I confess to it being a massive ego trip.
Sounds like an amazing time! I hope I will get the chance to visit Portugal, and to ride fixed gear at age 65 and beyond! I wish you have a great day my friend!
Glad i've found your channel and watched some videos. Fixies do fascinate me and i am curious how they ride and the "child" in me wants to convert one of my bikes. On the other hand... I live uphill with at least 10% incline. Without "granny-gear" i'm helplessly lost :D
That's awesome! Thanks for watching! The inner child will thank you forever for trying fixed gear. The fact that you even use that phrasing is a clear sign that you should. The hills are a challenge. Obviously I recommend having hand brakes as assist or backup. Also, having really good foot retention will make riding uphill a lot more doable, but it's more like heavy lifting than it is stamina intensive. Choose a low gear ratio (maybe something under 2.5) and sacrifice going fast downhill, at least for now.
@@addvurtbikes Thanks for the advice. Jeah, i most definitly will ride with brakes and probably have a flip flop system. But right now i'm getting used to drop bars. But who knows, my inner child almost always wins at some point :D - (maybe) fun story: i was talking with my zen teacher a while ago and we talked about bikes and i told him about fixies and single speed bikes.
