Using a 'scope to quickly troubleshoot a power supply fault. Troubleshooting this type of thing is easy if you know what to look for. Yes it was a cap this time, but I don't lean towards "shotgun" repairs. A lot of techs don't even seem to use their scopes much.

Hello everyone, I'm repairing a Denon AVR-1509 amplifier, I can't find the specifications of the D534 diode anywhere, I know it's an AX52 diode, but what kind of diode is it, what specification, what specification? Please help
Google says it's a Schottky , 40V PIV, 30mA
I blew up my old AVR-4800, and I can't find anyone to work on it. I'm pretty sure the problem is that I installed a 3 Ohm speaker on the center channel, and it killed the amp. Now when it turns on it triggers the protection right away. It's rather dear to me, and I'd like to get it fixed. Would you be able to help me out?
I have the album "Radio Dinner". This song is a running gag throughout where attempts to sing it are interrupted by gunfire. Only at the end does this full version come out.
Hahahah this never gets old
Hi Mark, I have a question I hope you can help me with, I have a McIntosh MC2200 amp and the right channel output transistors get extremely hot and keep failing while the left channel is working normally and cool to the touch. We replaced the output transistors and some resistors and we're still having the same problem. Could it possibly be a bad transformer? Any and all information you have would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Look for a bias diode (maybe D207?) in the heat sink assembly, or maybe the bias transistor Q215 may be leaky? The voltage drop across the diode can be very revealing. Compare to the other channel.
@@mdzacharias Hello Mark, I wanted to come back and update you on what the problem was if you were curious! The problem was the thermistors (1 on each heat sink) leads were corroded. We cleaned the leads and reinstalled them. It put the BIAS back to normal. Neither side overheats and now runs beautiful! They were hidden underneath the ceramic resistors. Thanks!
so funny...indeed contagious laughter. I miss this show :(
My Favorite meter. My friend Victor J. Dafchik from Kartunes in Lackawanna NY gave it to me when he was teaching me how to work on electronics in the early 90's. He's long since passed and a leaky set of Rayovac batteries shelfed my beloved 22-216. I still kept it because of the history and hopes of one day restoring it.
I could probably sell this one...
I'd love to get another. Could use it to fix mine!
You can email me at mark_zacharias@sbcglobal.net We can probably work something out.@@OldSkoolF
@@mdzacharias Done...
Thank you so much... Eternally grateful!!!
I have a Marantz 8000, that I replaced the output speaker relays. They go bad over time. But, now I have an issue that one side speaker outputs go out when pressing on the boards. I cleaned all pins and sockets of the parallel boards to the main. Must be some bad solder joints I hope. Do you see these have bad solder joints on the sockets maybe???
I'm thinking bad solder connections on the underside of the main board, especially where the vertical boards plug in.
Ok thanks. I meant perpendicular not parallel.@@mdzacharias

Love your repair videos Mark. Your skills are both informative and entertaining.
Do you repair VCR’s too?
Well, not anymore...
@@mdzacharias pretty cool that you did in the past though
Very impressive collection my friend. Love the classics
Hi Mark I do have this since the eighties the micronta 22-191 and worked allways good, now the DC modus have now floating negative results, even with no wires connected, I replaced C3 100nF (thermal bad) is no solution, but I do have no schematics, can you help me with the fault and schematic? Thanks in advance! Luc (Belgium)
Email me directly at mark_zacharias@sbcglobal.net and I can send you a schematic.
@@mdzacharias I sended you an email, thanks for reply.

A Ca 1010 just came available for purchase in my area. Right side meter and light are out. Wondering if that is an easy fix.
The lamps are a bit tricky to replace, but the meters are semi-permanently attached to the front panel, as is the pilot light so even removing the front panel is tricky.
Once again, the writing on this show was just brilliant. The writers knew the actors well and everything was pure gold.
It’s Yamaha not Yarmarhar…..
I know this is a very old video and long shot, but I can always ask: Does anyone has the schematics, part list or more specific I try to found out the values of the 2 capacitors C99 and C100, that are part of the AC compensation network, as I have been told on EEVblog forum. What I am trying to do is to bring back the AC measurement back within the specs. DC is just fine.
I don't have that info, and no longer have the meter. Sorry.

Hi Mark. I have a SR6012 and have noticed a faint electromagnetic field sound coming out of the AV Receiver. And its starts when the Av receiver warms up. And amplified when you connect the speaker. Do you think its coming out of the faulty transformer?
Gotta love Avometers! Thanks
Have a short in mine. Can't quite figure out where exactly. 8A fuse blowing. If I take the orange and white wires off (the ones next to the 120V contacts) the fuse does 🚫 open when I give it power. What's my next step?
Does not open
I have two of these. Inherited them. They turn on- no sound. Any tips ?
Usually blown amp channel, common problem on these due to broken solder connections in the amp stack. Not a do-it yourself repair.

Hi... I have this receiver. I haven't used it for the last few years due to house reno.... Today I hooked it back up today and was listening to it for about 45 mins. When I moved the receiver into the stand the front speakers and the rear speakers stopped working..... the center channel and sub are still working. I've been thinking I pushed a button or something..... Now 2 hours later and I've tried every setting.... I'm guessing this might be internal.... any thoughts?

I learned on these meters in high school in the early 90s. We had an educational version with a clear back. When a student would blow one up it would fill up with smoke, and our instructor would laugh at us, then make us open it up and fix it. It took me a long time to get used to using digital meters, because the response time was so much longer on the early ones. With the 260 you could tell by how fast the needle swung if you were in the right range, and it was also nice for checking capacitors.
That u 4 posting this. Remember watching this game. Still cannot believe shockers won this.
Hi, I have a Marantz sr5008 after an update it stopped working (firmware error) I did what you described in the video but it didn't work, where could I get the firmware for the European version to install it via USB, thank you very much

I imagine Herb would know quite a bit about women, I mean he is married.
Mark, when you describe a 12- volt strike on the circuit in the Rx1 range... what are the typical consequences? smoked movement?? I just picked up a Series 7 that was manufactured in 02 and the movement is dead. Also, are you aware of a movement source other than just purchasing a 'Used Meter" for movement replacement. I happened onto a pristine series 7 off craigslist for a song and would like to get it going.
Usually just the Rx1 resistor smokes. If it's now open circuit, the needle will peg on any resistor when using that range.
@@mdzacharias Something got the movement in this one, I put a 10K resistor with movement isolated on the + side of the meter and input a variable voltage from zero... no deflection. I've searched the net for a new movement and have found nothing listed. This meter never seen much use if any, literally like new inside/out. Simpson has nothing listed far as new movements to my surprise. Thanks for the speedy reply, any and all feedback is helpful.
The video is great😀
How can I buy a L7002 coil? I can't find them online. Could you provide info on how to find them?
I would just jumper it or replace with a 1 ohm resistor.
