  • Using a 'scope to quickly troubleshoot a power supply fault. Troubleshooting this type of thing is easy if you know what to look for. Yes it was a cap this time, but I don't lean towards "shotgun" repairs. A lot of techs don't even seem to use their scopes much.

A Ca 1010 just came available for purchase in my area. Right side meter and light are out. Wondering if that is an easy fix.

The lamps are a bit tricky to replace, but the meters are semi-permanently attached to the front panel, as is the pilot light so even removing the front panel is tricky.

Hey! Have you any experience with the YST-SW800? I have power supply self oscillation issues after replacing and testing almost every component on the board, I have just thrown a video up, would you be able to offer any insight? Thanks in advance!

Looks like you've tried all the obvious stuff, and then some. Maybe if I had it I could poke around and see something else, but just looking at the schematic, no. You're certainly on the right track with the duty cycle.

@@mdzacharias thanks for the reply bud! Sorted it on stream last night, turned out to be one of the 2SD400 transistors that forms feedback, was a bunch of high resistances between legs. Didn't jump out at me as it appeared to read "fine" in circuit. ☺

@@barevids Was this the black tarnish on the transistor legs?

Full reset to factory settings. S3-2. PRESET RSRV. Does not help
    > A7-1. TEST ALL there is no sound
    > A6-1. MIC ROUTE sound is

I would be trying to troubleshoot the digital board (HDMI board) for this issue. Maybe some power supply line down somewhere.

Hi. I have the same unit. Just aquired . Looks like there was a failure of one of the transistors on same board previously and someone had put B566A instead of D476A . Can it stay that way or should i replace it with D476A ? Also looks like there is No relay and it has been bypasssd . Will that be the reason for a pop on start up ? Am I risking the speakers using it without relay ? Last but not least could you help me with buying relay that would fit , the other class a/ab is bypassed too. Really like the sound apart from this few things is all originall and working just left channel slightly quieter, since iam amateur it would be hard to locate the cause but i can still clean all the switches and pots perhaps it would sort it. Love your videos . Regards

Oh, my God. This unit needs competent service by a knowledgeable professional. The relays must be replaced. A 2SB transistor CANNOT replace a 2SD. Yes this will cause the pop at start-up, but bypassing the soft start relay will eventually damage the power switch it is designed to protect. The speakers are at risk in the event on an amplifier failure OR a power supply issue which results in a DC offset. This amp is too nice to mess it up yourself, which is a very distinct possibility, even a PROBABILITY. Don't be a cheapskate. Get to to a real technician.

Mark Zacharias Thank you for your reply. Not being a cheapskate at all i aquired in an exchange . I live in Poland and in order to find gem like this you need to hunt a lot. Since i was fed up with my previous Rotel pre power combo i found a guy who exchanged with me and gave me thi yummy . I simply cannot afford atm to give to pro as it would cost me atleast 500 $ . I am planning to but in a meantime really need to fit those relays in order to listen something until i can afford overhaul by a pro. Currently with s help of milion cottonbuds and pcc15 cleanser iam getting it clean of 20!years of grease etc. Bear in mind someone has done awfull job and there is No traces for relays i will have to fix it with wire or solder what a shame. I preety good and careful with soldering alot better than guy before me , just resoldered and cleaned switch for pre main , was it dirty hell i have not seen it that bad . Is my first beauty Vintage iam so exited . I love cleaning old amps is so relaxing . Times when i dont think about problems , my father used u for electronic and it was hus hobby that he gave up long time ago Unfortunaetly .

Hi. I just bought a CA-1010 in beautiful cosmetic condition. However I have a problem in the left channel cutting out on low volume. If i stich the speakers off and turn the volume up and down a couple of times, the left channel catches and starts working. I put it back on to to my speaker selection and listen for awhile, stop times the left channel will stay on or it will cut back out. Can anyone suggest what I can do? Ty.

This is usually just cleaning controls and switches, and cleaning or replacing the speaker relay.

Likely coupler switch on rear. Flick it on/off a few times, this switch should cleaned.
