EG4 3000 watt inverter, best inverter for off grid. Parallel connections. Running so so smooth.
Today we are discussing the the EG4 3000 watt inverter in parallel with 4 inverters for a total output of 12,000 watts. We show you how to connect the 4 inverters in parallel using the communication cables provided with each inverter. You can connect up to 5000 watts to each inverter with up to 500 volt dc solar panel PV input. Need to keep the solar panel PV input less around 18 dc amps. 80 amp total output but 50 amp on each inverter surge to start large loads like our 3 1/2 ton heat pump and then our 4 ton heat pump to air condition and heat our 2450 square foot house. We don’t just cool our house out here in Phoenix AZ, today it was 110 degrees again and we chill it down to 68-72 degrees not worrying about our electricity bill being over $1000 a month. Our electric bill is around $130 a month in summer. We have this off grid system fine tuned to give us the best bang for our buck. We also use the EG4 51.2 volt 100ah 5120wh server rack batteries to run our upstairs heat pump overnight to air condition the house. These inverters come with a 125 amp dc breaker for the battery connection between inverter and battery bank along with positive and negative battery cables, battery to inverter communication cable to see state of charge and percentage of battery left. Along with a few other cables to connect to computer to download firmware updates. You get a wireless dongle to see information of inverter. Large 8x11 user manual with easy to read instructions for installation, programming, troubleshooting, error codes for to tell when something is not correct in installation. Very nice system for under $700 each inverter. I think this system in parallel being able to produce split phase 120/240 volts is the best bang for your buck right now. These units weigh less than 20 lbs each compared to the Growatt 12kw low frequency inverter weighing a staggering 186 lbs. these small power house are a lot more efficient than the Growatt inverters I am using. They only consume 50 watts each inverter at idle compared to Growatt at 150 watts or more at idle. I can run all 4 EG4 inverters during the day to produce 12,000 watts output, then turn 2 off the inverters off at night to just use 100 watts at idle while bringing able to run 240 loads overnight on battery bank. I am amazed that these light weight high frequency inverters can run so much and are the easiest inverters to install and run large loads like central air conditioning. I have a Rich Solar Same model. I can't get mine to input voltage. I have 2 series of 4 on each leg. checked dc breakers before dc disconnects and have 150v. I haven't checked the input on the inverters yet but i set the settings and it says 0 pv input valve.

      @@TinyHouseHomestead so I guess all those people who actually did the same thing in my video and it worked for them, they let me know it worked. They all got scammed. Now I run my 3 1/2 ton upstairs ac and my 4 ton downstairs ac on solar during the day as well as my 3 car garage with a 18,000 btu mini split, all at 72-74 degrees with off grid solar. We even run our 3 1/2 ton ac overnight with our 25.5 kWh EG4 LiFePO4 battery bank. All from solar power during the day. I actually show I know what I am talking about, this is just a bare bones example that you can run a window ac using solar with the very minimal components needed. I have encouraged many with comments to expand and improve on this example as I did and now can air condition my house and garage to 72-74 degrees when it is 115 degrees outside like today and yesterday and the week before. I hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed 2024.

    • @diy-solar-guy
      @diy-solar-guy Před dnem

      I’m not sure, I’m keeping on the wall for now since I have the space. Those were a major hassle to mount on wall. I’m actually using both still. One is being used to run mini split in the garage from 6 am to 6 pm. Keeps garage at 70-75 all day long. The other one I’m using to run my pool pump on high during the day so my pool is sparkling clean all the time. Those are only power hungry at night consuming 150 watts at idle but during the day I over produce so it’s not a problem. I’m in the process of changing out my poly solar panels to mono and also increasing watts for each solar panel.

      @@diysolaradventures7894 very nice. I use the economy mode early in morning and late in the day when I’m trying to cool one of the bedrooms more than the other bedrooms. They have already paid for themselves in electric cost savings so they are still good. Those are selling for $1500 refurbished and over $2200 new plus having to pay freight so they are worth holding onto on the wall for backup. Very very reliable off grid inverters!!!!

    How gellable are you people. if you want to run that ac unit for more then a few minutes you're gonna need a hellava lot more battery power then that.. A 100 amp hour led acid can only be run down to 12.1 volts safely.. and to handle the start up of the compressor it will spike easily to 15 to 18 amps at 120 volts... that will drain that battery faster then you can recharge it.. so even in full day sun at max solar generation you will not be able to run that AC long enough to cool down a small room in 95 degree temps outdoors no way.. If it were this simple every new RV would have them.. it mat run the fan on that ac but not the comressor,

It can be 110 degrees outside here and my whole house ac or mini split can blow 35-55 degrees. But you won’t be able to get your room that cold with all the heat sources like windows, doors, walls, etc… Hope that helps to clear things up. When I purchased this product about 4 years ago it was around $600. Today, closer to $800-$1000. Prices have gone up instantly high since I did this. Today, it is better to buy an all in one inverter like a EG4 3000 watt inverter that you can expand to 12 inverters in parallel down the road if you wanted to. It has 120 volt output. You would need at least 1-48 volt battery to use off grid inverter. You can run a 12,000 btu mini split that cools or heats around 500-600 square foot area. They even sell mini split with direct connection from solar panels to outdoor unit if mini split. 5-400 watt solar panels and some 10 gauge solar wire along with 2-MC4 connectors and your running a mini split during the day when the sun is shinning from maybe 8 am to 6 pm. That would cost around $1700. You can also connect to grid power or Lithium Iron Phosphate battery bank and run overnight. These mini splits are designed for the homeowner to install. Takes a lot of risk out of the equation. I just bought a 12,000 btu mini split, 110 volt on eBay for $500. This is not the same type as I talked about above. This one needs hvac gauges and vacuum pump to install. You would need to either hard wire to breaker panel or add an electrical cord(at least 10AWG) so you could plug outside mini split unit into an outside electrical outlet. I discuss a lot of this in my other videos. We now run our 3 1/2 ton upstairs ac and 4 ton downstairs ac with solar on day and upstairs only ac at night on lithium iron phosphate batteries at night. That’s with it being 110 degrees out here in the day in Phoenix AZ this last month. Check out my other videos on mini splits and how I installed them as well as when I installed to get a better idea of how to efficiently heat or cool your house or shed or area of your house with off grid solar. Hope you enjoy the other videos and I hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed 2024.

    This is such amazing info. I subscribed way back when I ran across your video about running a 5000btu window a/c with just 2 panels. So helpful in cooling the shed. Now I feel inspired and overdue to tackle an entire system. These last videos were just the content I needed to emulate a perfect design. I currently have in my cart 4 of the EG4 3kW 4 of the EG4 LiPo4 Batteries 30 of the Hyperion 400W bifacials And the 6 slot rack I plan on building a pergola in the back to mount the panels and hopefully before the August heat kicks in here in SoCal at least have the 3 1/2 ton A/Cs on solar power. After summer I can slowly start switching over circuit after circuit away from the grid until I’m close to maxing out. Is there any advice you can give me, especially what else to also add to the order (like wires, breakers, etc that I can’t easily find locally) before I checkout by the end of this week. Also I wish the newer LLS batteries were available sooner than August. I mean the 10 year warranty on them sounds great. Maybe get 2 for now and pre order 2 of the LLS? Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance for all that you do!!

      Wow, you are very eager to get this project going. My 3 1/2 ton uses around 2200-2400 watts. So you need at least 2 EG4 batteries to start up ac, also you will need to install a soft start on your ac. The inrush amps will be too high if you do not install a soft start especially at night when running on battery. My inrush amps to start 3 1/2 ton ac was 78 amps, after I installed soft start, it was down to 18-24 amps. That is a huge draw reduced by a $250 soft start. I use 5 EG4 batteries in parallel for over night use, because at 8pm it is still over 100 degrees out here. Not sure what your temps are out there at 6 pm and overnight but you may not need as much stuff that you have in your cart. You will need to run at least 10 gauge wire with ground, 10AWG (2 wires plus ground outside rated wire) from ac fuse pull box disconnect to your inverter electrical panel. You run output from EG4 inverters into breaker panel. Will need electrical code knowledge to wire your breaker panel correctly or hire electrician. You can buy electrical panels with main breaker at Home Depot or Lowes. I bought my 200 amp input at Lowes. You will also need heavy duty buss bars. I bought on Amazon for around $32. You will need wire to run from your battery to your buss bar that connects to inverter. I use Anderson 175 amp quick disconnect with the cables I bought from Harbor freight. Around $40 for 6 foot length of both black and red wire. Will need crimping tool from Amazon, you use a hammer to crimp wire. Around $15 for crimping tool. Anderson 175 amp quick connect kits are around $ 12 a set, available on Amazon as well. Depending on what you are trying to run during the day and night, you might get away with 2 EG4 inverters to start with. That will give you 6000 watts output with the inverters in parallel. You can always add more later. Respond to this message and I will give you my email so you can get answers to any questions. Once you respond, I will give you email and then remove email after you get it. I don’t mind answering questions to help you in deciding what product to get. Your shopping cart is going to cost a lot. Your cart is around $14,000 or more. They sell pergola sets on Amazon (backyard Adventures) and sometimes can find in Sam’s club. Starting at $1000 for 10x12 pergola. I bought from both and built my own as well. Hope to see you respond to this message soon. Hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed day.

    Pappa - Deanna and I were able to find a used DC Solar Trailer with the (2) SMA inverters, Midnite Solar 250 Charge Controller and (2) 48v battery banks (510Ah each). I am thinking to switch the Charge Controller out for the EG4 Charge Controller so we can build up a separate array that has higher watts/volts/amps from the array than these (10) 230watt panels that are original to the trailer. They are only putting out 1550watts maximum and we would like a higher charging capability for the 1020Ah combined battery bank. Probably going to have to mount the charge controller outside the cabinet on the trailer. I would like to get the (12) 390watt QCell Panels set up with the EG4 Charge Controller - will the EG4 be able to handle that many amps, watts and volts from the panels?

At 500 watts per hour on a 100 amp hour 5120 watts 12 volt LiFePO4 battery you might get 6 hours of run time but it would need to be Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. I purchased all of this around 4 years ago for around $500. Hard to find charge controller anymore since new technology is so much more efficient with all in one off grid inverters that take in solar input and put out pure sign wave 120 volts or even split phase 120/240 volts. I have 2- EF4 3000 watt off grid inverters in parallel running my 3 1/2 ton whole house heat pump 24 hours a day with LiFePO4 battery at night. My system has paid insert back in just 4 years with the savings on my electric bill. Today it would cost a lot more. But now they have hybrid 12,000 btu mini splits that can cool or heat a room up to 600 square feet. Whereas this window ac is rated for around 100 square feet. You can directly plug your solar into outside unit of mini split and connect to battery or grid power as well to supplement of rainy or cloudy days limiting your watts from grid to 600 watts or less. Here is the link. Buy 5-400 watt solar panels and you are air conditioning or heating a space up to 600 square feet during the day for free. Can easily make your money back over a few years in not having to run main ac or if wanting to cool a garage. Very inexpensive way compared to installing a ducted ac which could cost over $10,000. Using a mini split instead of this shaving hundreds of dollars if my electric bill each month from April through November out here is AZ. Link for Hybrid mini split. Check out my newer videos showing the 3000 watt off grid inverters running across and mini splits along with pool pump, pool heater, freezers, fridge, lights, dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer and more. You will get more bang for your buck with mini split but you can still do the window ac unit but it might cost $800 or more for everything as where mini split plus solar panels might be twice that price. Man I'm SO glad I watched this video. Those same used 250w-8.1a panels are the ones I was going to buy for $50 each. With a possibility of that much degradation in them I would be hugely disappointed in their output. I don't think it's worth me getting them for even $10/ea due to the work involved in hauling them onto the porch roof by myself at 69 yrs old. As Yoda might say: "A solar Guru....you are".

    • @diy-solar-guy
      @diy-solar-guy Před 21 dnem

      I actually think the used mono solar panels are worth it because they do better with shading, cloud cover, early morning and dusk also most importantly in series with inverters that can handle 500 volt dc PV input. I tried using in parallel for my Growatt 12kw inverter where the max PV input is 150 v dc. Was not happy with the efficiency but I used those same solar panels on my EG4 3000 watt inverter and they are so so much more efficient. I gave 6-330 watt mono panels in series along with another 6-330 watt mono solar panels in series, then I connect those on parallel. That’s almost 4000 watts between those 2 string combined into 1 string. I get 3000 watts input into inverter as where when I string of 3 in series then 4 sets in parallel, I was only getting around 2000-2200 watts with Growatt inverter. I like the used mono solar panels for the used price. You get what you pay for. I just bought 10-400 watt bifacial with 100 possible from back side and those are excellent panels at $124 each. Well worth getting brand new. I can get 3500-4000 watts out of those new bifacial but have a tough time getting 2500 watts out of 5000 watts used poly solar panels. I’m 62 years old who has been going through 2 incurable cancers for last ten years and just diagnosed with another cancer, so I know it is not easy setting up this solar system but it is possible when you are determined. Best inverter for money is the EG4 3000 watt off grid inverter where you can connect up to 5000 watts and up to 500 volt dc PV input. You just have to keep the dc amps coming in from solar panels below 20 amps. Check out my newer videos with these EG4 3000 watt inverters and see everything I run with these little lightweight power house inverters and EG4 LiFePO4 battery banks. Thanks for your input and I hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed 2024.

    They make hybrid mini-splits now that are plug and play, but very expensive with years of payback time. They use high efficiency variable compressors that don't demand that high surge starting current. Do they make new window shakers that have the variable compressor start technology? I would definitely rig a setup like yours cause I have a source of many used roof top panels from a guy who replaces them for larger units.

    That garage being 78 degrees when it's a 110 degrees outside with all those battery's and inverters running. That's impressive! I am in Fl. and I know how these garages get this time of year. Does keeping the garage cool take pressure off the rest of the house? Your system is really amazing! I like how you showed the wiring to us really quite easy to understand. Most content providers don't do that so thank you!

    • @diy-solar-guy
      @diy-solar-guy Před 26 dny

      The garage is below upstairs bedrooms, so keeping it cool , keeps the upstairs cool. There is a 2 foot gap between garage ceiling and upstairs floor for running ductwork for hvac. I insulated my garage door with 2 inch rigid foal insulation and my west wall as well. I had another 12000 btu mini split in garage that was able with that running, got the garage down to 68-70 degrees while 110 out. But I gave that one away. Keeping the garage cool helps with keeping the rest of house cool but I mainly air condition the garage because of the inverters producing heat and when we pull cars in the garage that we’re driving in that 110 degrees heat. That 18,000 btu really does a good job keeping garage cool, I like to run it in the turbo mode. I bought that at Home Depot around 2 years ago. It was in stock at store and they still stock these mini splits. But I found you can buy a 18,000 btu mini split on eBay for about 1/2 the price as Home Depot. As low as $600. That’s an excellent price. Any mini split over 12,000 btu will be 230 volts. But you can get 12,000 btu mini splits in 110 volt option. Thank you for your comment. I do these videos to show how easy it is to do off grid solar. We have over 320 days of sunshine in Phoenix AZ. You have cloudy days in Florida so using mono panels would be preferably over poly solar panels. I just bought 400 watt bifacial solar panels that can go to 500 watts total with backside solar gain. I’m getting around 400 watts per panel consistently. Works so much better on cloudy days compared to poly solar panels. I just bought 9- 365 mono used solar panels for $22 each that have slight frame damage to see how well they will do on my 3000 watt EG4 inverter. 4 of those are actually bifacial solar panels. The 12 used 335 watt mono solar panels are preforming well with 2800 watts on one 3000 watt EG4 off grid inverter. Should be able to get 12,000 watts output here soon, I will be able to try my pool electric heat pump pool heater to cool my pool water when it goes over 89 degrees. That uses 7500 watts or more especially when 110 degrees out. Hope you have a truly wonderful and extremely blessed 2024.
