  • It’s that time of the year again in February 2024. We fired up our 127,000 BTU pool heater heat pump along with our 17,000 BTU pool heat pump heater.. completely running the pool pump and pool heaters with just Solar. No grid power. We are using our 12 kW Growatt low frequency, off grid inverter along with a 25.5 kW EG4 lLiFePO4 battery bank and 12,000 Watts of solar panels. Check out the video to see it is possible to run an electric pool pump and pools heaters with just solar power. This was completely diy off grid solar system. Was easy to do and now we can swim in our pool 10-12 months a year by heating and cooling our pool water. We purchase the products. We are an affiliate with Sinature solar and when you follow the links in description and purchase products , we will get a small percentage of the sale. This helps us to purchase products unbox, set up, test and review products. Can the charge controllers keep the batteries at a set level in float? Like 1000 watts in, you use 900 and they are fully charged, will they cycle up and down or hold 100%?

The EG4 charge controller has settings to set voltage at bulk charge, float charge, charging current max and battery type. I use EG4 charger to suppiment my loads or to suppliment to charge faster with either one of my Growatt low frequency off grid inverters. I do not use as a stand alone to just charge batteries. For the Growatt inverters, I have to set in user mode for battery setting. Cannot get Growatt inverter to communicate with EG4 batteries so sometimes the charge state will be in standby at 99 percent instead of 100 percent. If I turn off charge controller, the EG4 battery bank with just the Growatt inverter will charge battery to 100 percent. The EG4 3000 watt inverter I have easily connects and communicates with the EG4 lifepower4 batteries. I can even see the state of charge and percent of battery on EG4 inverter screen. Something I can’t do with any of my other inverters. I like the EG4 charge controller but am moving to the 2-EG4 3000 watt inverters in parallel that can give me 120/240 volts output. I am reconfiguring my solar panel arrays so I will no longer be using the EG4 charge controller, it has worked flawlessly for me over the last year using it. When thinking about this charge controller, think about charging the battery with amps and setting bulk and float charge settings. Can’t really set watts in settings. Hope this helps in answering your question. If you have more questions, please ask. Hope you have a wonderful and blessed 2024.

@@diy-solar-guy does the eg4 charge controller communicate with the eg4 all in one inverter charge controller? Curious if it’s a good upgrade path and if I could keep scaling up the system with more solar if I want.

@Deveak the charge controller will not communicate with EG4 3000 watt inverter. But you can connect 5000 watts to the EG4 3000 watt inverter and actually get 3000 watts output. Parallel a second EG4 3000 watt inverter and you now have split phase. Being able to have 6000 watts output from 2 inverters and split phase is better than a EG4 inverter and a charge controller. That charge controller has the positive and negative from pv and from battery. Only connect 4 wires. Charger connected to bus bar if battery. I am receiving my second 3000 watt inverter tomorrow and will connect in parallel. I will have the ability to run a split phase voltage from 3 separate inverters. The next inverter I get will be split phase capable with just one unit. Probably an EG4 inverter.
