Great job what is the texture mix used .
Thank you Pip. The texture is called Artex, available in the UK. But if you are shouting from the US or Canada, then use drywall texture. Hope this help, thanks for commenting
That's great mate thanks for your help👍.
Brilliant information. Thank you.
You dont show the actual producxt. If it is artex then it has dangerous asbestos in it?
Hi. Yes you are absolutely correct it is dangerous, & asbestos has been banned from building materials since the late 90,s. Thank you for commenting, have a nice day
Gorgeous! Don't know if I could find a rose one. I bet the metallics would show up absolutely stunning
Hi, im trying to patch my mom's wall are you using artex powder or joint filler with paint?
What sort of artex brand did you use?
always using texture powder. Thanks for commenting have a nice day
Where do you buy the combs
Where’d yu buy the tools
Can you use something else as a tool? I can’t find this
Thanks Dale great tips
You are so welcome & thanks for commenting
Thank goodness I found your video. We've had to cut away some plasteboard from the kitchen ceiling to sort out a leak and I couldn't find out what the pattern was called and how to do it (for the repair).
You are welcome, thank you for commenting have great day

Ha, such an uplifting comment thank you so much. Have great day
You make it look so easy lol I've just had some chap come in to plaster board the ceiling 1m x 4m and he has made a right dogs dinner of it by troweling on some easy sand so thick then using a plastic bag I've now got to sand it down at the joint which seems to be taking forever, do you recommend a course or medium sandpaper your help would be really appreciated thank you for sharing an excellent video
It shouldn't have to be this way but you are welcome. Just ensure you wear a mask & goggles
What did you use for the texture for stipple affect was it skim?
always using texture powder & NEVER plaster for texturing
Thank you Dale, excellent work.
Thanks Christopher, and thank you for the feedback
Just wanted to say thanks for the video. Really helpful.
Hi David. You are welcome. Thanks for the feedback
Hi Dale, I am doing a stipple ceiling repair in my living room that has a similar textured pattern that has been done with a stipple brush For the stipple mix can you use 'no nonsense screwfix all purpose ready mix' with adding water for applying texture mix with stipple brush?
Hi. Thank you for contacting me. If you can get the filler, once mixed, to the same consistency as of the original textures' (which you are attempting to replicate), and it is only a small patch, why not try using the filler? To patch in successfully a 'stipple pattern' it's all about making your consistency resemble the consistency of the existing stipple the original texture'r' used. However, I would not attempt to use 'skimming plaster'. This is just my piece of advice, and a bag of texture is not cheap. Especially as you only need to do a patch-up. But do let us know how you get on Have a great day Dale
Hi Dale, The stipple ceiling repair is about 5'-0" x 5" wide (was a plaster board ceiling joint crack) I have repaired ceiling with Screwfix no nonsense all purpose ready mix filler and sanded down smooth flat ready for texturing mix with stipple brush. Note would PVA glue diluted with water and rolled over be ok for bond sealing before rolling texture mix & stipple brushing I was going to use the rest of ready mix filler in tub diluted with small amounts of water with stipple brush let dry and 2 coats white dulux emulsion over all ceiling. Regards
Yes, definitely seal with pva, watered down, as the dry filler on the ceiling will instantly draw off the moisture of the new mix you are about to apply, and then it would be difficult attempting to make a pattern. Maybe coat the area twice (to help diminish as much porosity as possible.) Let the sealer dry completely before texturing,, and once you have mixed your filler/texture, to the consistency you think looks good, lay some of this compound onto a spare wall or ceiling,or spare piece of plasterboard, and then stipple it, so see if it resembles the original pattern on your ceiling, and you can always wash this Often, though, when attempting a stipple patch-up, a little filler/texture, applied to the area (compared to laying on the texture really thickly) just may suffice Some stipple I have patched has been so fine, that I just lay some compound onto my actual stipple brush, then just dabbed gently onto the area Hope all this helps Have a great day
Thanks for your advice
I’ve got to patch artex in with my new job. Thanks for showing me how to do it 👍🏻

These ceilings look horrible. Such a bad trend
Wow thanks I have been struggling with this. My roof is not 90 degrees. It is lower on the one side and higer on the other. This helped me cut the conners perfect. I take my hat off thanks a million.
Doing 1000 sq ft of this texture tomorrow for a water damage job. Wasn't sure if I should roll the mud or apply by trowel before swirling. Thank you!
Thanks Dale. Really helpful

Hi Terry. type 'ARTEXING TEXTURING COMB TOOL 250mm' into search engine or the most popular auction site. Hope this helps, have a great day
This is one of the oldest ways to do swirling on cealings they stopped doing this in the late 60's and early 70's always thought it looked pretty cool being not many people I know in the painting industry knows how are even seen it done. Truly art work
Hi Terry. Lovely comment great to know an old school texture fan who can still remember. I got a story about the actual creation of the comb texture patterns etc... I live in Cardiff South Wales... Yes I do.... Many, MANY years ago, in a suburb called CANTON. There was an old toy shop, where myself (& my wife at the time) entered, to purchase a toy for one of our lovely sproggs... I was infatuated, Because, behind the counter, a door was open, and revealed a wall with a kind of TEXTURED COMB PATTERN... That's amazing, I told the old fellow. When did you have that done, as I am sooo interested I want to learn the art of texturing (we actually called creative texturing, ARTEX, in the UK) for myself.... Well, he jollied, taking a noisy slurp of the steaming, thick dark liquid embellishing his china mug, then he wiped his sodden goatee with a crisp, white hanky fumbled from his breast pocket. That was actually done just after the second world war. We owned this shop for many years and had it plastered. My missus & the plasterer at the time suggested to play around with the plaster, instead of having a flat finish, so with a notched trowel, hence, this is the effect he had achieved, and we have kept it ever since Anyways, enough of the idle chatter, I loved your comment Have a great day Dale
Please come to Orlando, Fla. Take family to see Mickey Mouse and Minnie mouse at Disney World and do my kitchen ceiling in between. Apparently the builder put accent ceilings in different areas. Very nice Lol I have a 4” half small circles and saw it Actually looks easy but yours is a Job for Superman. Thanks for Video
A great account .
Thank you Kate Buckfield
Brilliant tutorial mate, thank you
Joe, you are welcome. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Have a great day
Hiya Dale Great tutorials! I have stippled ceilings. The nibs aren’t very big big… just 1 or 2 mm. Do you think that I could put up the same coving used in your video without having to go to the expense of skimming every ceiling for a flat finish. I appreciate that I won’t have a nice neat 1 inch boarder running with the ceiling edge of the coving. Cheers mate
Hi Badboy. The stipple sounds like it could have been a watery mix, as used on some site-build finishes, hence, a thinnish appearance. I have actually been able to adhere coving/cornice to these type of (almost flat) textured ceilings previously... Of course, make sure you seal / bond, to take away any porosity and to add extra adhesion, and allow to dry (PVA, not too diluted, around 50/50 with water... And make sure the texture mix for putting up the cornice/coving is of a rather thick consistence (as per the video... And then, I always place nails/screws, underneath the cornice/coving, to hold the weight, until the texture is set hard... You will have to experiment, and this information is just how I would apply, and I do not hold myself responsible for any mishaps you may endear. Also I would not attempt too affix and kind of HEAVY/PLASTER style coving/cornice etc. I hope this helps please do let me know how you get on
Hi. Absolutely cracking videos. What material do you use? I saw dry ready to mix Artex in B+Q. What`s th4 best do you think?
Hi Karma. Thank you for commenting. I use 2 kinds of products, both are great for creating artistic comb & basic textures on interioe ceilings & walls. One is Artex, in powder form, 25kg bags. And the other is Wondertex Premier mix in powder form, 25kg bags. Hope this helps

@@Artexing perfect thank you so much!
Where do you get the comb and other tools? Beautiful work
Did you use regular compound for that?
I sure did
I’ve had little luck finding fan texture tools that cover a radius larger than 4 inches. Any suggestions to find this tool or plaster/drywall tool manufacturers that might offer something comparable?
Alright Dale, Im new to your videos, class work, can I ask are you using easifil? Cheers 👍🏻 keep it up Edit: I'm guessing it's all artex? Just someone mentioned mud and I know our brothers in America use the term mud for joint filler.
G,day Chez. I did notice the term mud being used. What the compound is, a texture to create patterns onto interior ceilings/walls. In the UK there are around 2 products for creating these interior finishes; Artex & Wondertex. On feedback from users/practitioners in the States & Canada, Hamiltons was 1 brand mentioned many times. Thanks for your commenting have a great day
