  • To make a textured tree bark effect wall texture, just like a professional, you will need to use a 'flat' plastic or hard rubber roller to create the pattern. This video shows you how to make the tool easily and cheaply at home. What to use where to get the materials and how to put it all together. Follow the steps, and let me know how you get on
    Thank you for watching

Dale, you're a good guy. When you realized how expensive the seam roller was, you spent the money to improvise and create one to help others. Thanks! I wasn't even interested in a tree bark texture but I am now...

Hi Dale, Would you be able to post a video with your homemade bark effect roller to show how the bark effect looks with that? That would be really helpful for me? Thank you

      Hi David
Thanks for commenting on my video channel
I have not got the roller anymore, but the flat roller I used in the video, will make the exact same pattern using the homemade one
      I hope this helps
      Have a great day

Dale....I love watching you work. I have been practicing on blank wall boards different textures. I find that a very smooth low nap paint roller with a slightly thicker drywall mud (less watered down) rolled down the wall will give the initial bark...then knocked it down with a damp squeegee. The trick I would like to know...how to move across the wall without getting roller and trowel marks into the next section...tricky.....The beauty is that you can just roll back over the areas that you dont like before they start to dry back

      Hi there Rottenest1
      Thanks for your comment.
The texture is applied in bands, from the top of the wall to the bottom, and then the roller to make the pattern is drawn down the wall to complete the section you have textured.
When applying the next band of texture, you always have to go an inch or so, over the last texture you have rolled on (and sometime which you have applied the pattern onto.)
      In summary:
Roll on a band of texture (1-2 feet wide)
      Make the pattern
Roll on the next band of texture, going over slightly the the texture (and maybe some of the pattern) you rolled on previously
This goes for many patterns, whether you are applying texture across a wall or ceiling, or applying texture 'down' a wall to make a tree-bark
Let me know if this makes sense
      Have a great day
      Regards, Dale

Hi Paradise Builders. You truly are missing something, but you are forgiven. This video, as per the title, is showing, how to make a home-made roller, which will create the tree bark texture. I made this video because I was having problems obtaining the right kind of roller for the job. I do have on my channel here, a full length tutorial enabling ANYONE to create this pattern at home, or on the job (why not check it out) so this accompanying video, I thought, was a must. Have a great day. Thank you for commenting

This is brilliant! I'm looking to do this in my younger son's bedroom. My one question, and it wasn't addressed, or I didn't see it anyhow in your book. For your texture do you use plaster or drywall mud?

    • @Artexing
      @Artexing  Před 8 lety +2

+Kory Leach Hi there Kory. Where I am creating patterns on walls or ceilings, the material I use is texture (mud) and not plaster.
Plaster is slightly different to work with (compared to using texture to make patterns)and it dries reasonably brittle, compared to texture.
With texture (mud) once the surface (ceiling/wall) is adequately sealed/primed, and left to dry (ready for texturing) one lays on the mud, and it can be pulled and dragged (up to an extent) in all various angles and directions using tools such as combs, rollers, sponges etc etc.
But this is not possible with plaster, as once layed on, is not normally 'dragged about over the surface.'
      Hope this helps
      Regards, Dale

@@Artexing dale i live in a different country and when I translate mud or texture into my language I don't get anything that can be used on well so can you also give any other places that this texture or mud can be used so that I can find the exact product. Also before applying this texture(mud) on the wall what kind of slealing product we should use?
