Jeep's Wagoneer S Is Going Off-Road.. Soon | Wagoneer S Trailhawk Concept
This is it! This is the Wagoneer EV, AKA: the Wagoneer S, and it's not quite what many of us had expected. Why? Because it's more of a Grand Cherokee EV in terms of its size, being ever so slightly smaller than the 2-row GC in almost every dimension. That also means it's way, smaller than a Wagoneer sans-S, and that's actually OK by me. On the other hand, if you were hoping for a Escalade IQ competitor, well, you're still waiting.
So what do you get for just under $72,000? Surprisingly quite a bit, considering that the Wagoneer S should qualify for the $7500 tax credit *and* $72K seems as high as the Wagoneer S will go. At least for now. That means that 72 karge actually buys you more stuff and better performance than you'll find in an Acura ZDX Type S, Lyriq Sport, or Polestar 3... For less. Clearly however there will be options like a Model Y or Blazer that will cost you less than this, but the Model Y is a bit smaller in some dimensions and it will lack some of the more "traditional" luxury touches offered in the Jeep.
Now to the dimensions: Vs the Grand Cherokee, the Wagoneer S is 1 inch shorter on a 3.7 inch shorter wheelbase, 3 inches narrower, with a roof line 6 inches closer to the ground. The lower roofline is mainly due to a passenger compartment that's less upright, but having 2 inches less ground clearance also factors into things. Legroom is similar to Grand Cherokee while headroom is around 2" lower both front and rear. Cargo room? 30.6 cubic feet plus 3 in the frunk put it about 4 cubes behind the Grand Cherokee, but almost exactly the same as a Model Y.
Power comes from a 100.5 kWh battery pack (400V nominal) under the body that will feed to standard dual 300 HP / 309 lb-ft motors. The total of 600 ponies and 617 lb-ft will get this 5,600 lb EV from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, they say that's 1/10th faster than the last Hellcat powered Grand Cherokee. Yeehaw.
We don't have all the charging details yet, but it looks like it'll peak around 200kW on a DC fast charger and should average ~160 kW from 10-80% which is a solid, but not class leading showing. Charge times should be pretty similar to a Tesla Model X which has a similarly sized battery.
Curb weight is lower than I had expected, although still substantial. At 5,667 lbs, the Wagoneer S is about 300 lbs heavier than the Trackhawk from years past, but the low center of gravity will likely be an asset and expect a perfect 50/50 weight balance. On the other hand, don't expect the eco-focused 235 width tires to do as much on a track as the wide summer tires on that Hellkitty.
What do you think? Keep in mind that at $71,995 plus destination, the Wagoneer S is actually less than a base Polestar 3 or a comparably equipped ZDX, or Cadillac Lyriq and it's quicker to 60 than all three. It's also less than a 2-row Model X. On the other hand it's nearly 20K more than a Model Y....

"They don't interfere with your visibility".. Are you nuts??.. Wow.. I am a big fan of your reviews.. But I think you are COMPLETELY wrong about those safety monitoring devices (cameras) "don't interfere with your visibility"??? Look at 9:39.. That whole area and the junk at the top middle of the windshield dramatically cuts down on driver and passenger's own visibility and the ability to look out of the upper part of windshield.. Especially if you are a over about 5' 9".. They need to go back to the drawing board and find another place to put those safety monitoring devices and cameras.. Put that stuff somewhere where it doesn't hurt ANY outward visibility thru the windshield.. When a driver can't see out of the windshield using his/her own vision.. that is a Major safety concern. Most put put those safety monitoring devices at the top middle part of the windshield, but this Subaru Forester seems to be the worse when it comes to blocking a driver's/passenger's own vision.

Seems like you're becoming a shell for Toyota. I've seen this car in person and there's no way that has reasonable rear seat room for any human. Very disappointed in your description obviously you don't want to say what's really happening back there. I have loved Toyota and owned many Lexus' but this truck is very disappointing in many ways. Now I understand they're having issues with the three-point four and the hybrid motor with massive recalls looks like over 100,000 vehicles and the first two years of production. Report on that as well!

Ok when I was working for Google I was looking at these and that was in 2020 and the reason I didn’t pull the trigger was the fact other then knowing that KIA is part of Hyundai and Hyundai has had issues with there engines and my roommate had a upper end model that had the engine go very bad on her . Anyway I have heard some things about KIA and most of it wasn’t bad but none of it was great . Now the car I purchased was a 2023 Honda Civic type R and I don’t regret it but I’m still curious about this KIA and because I paid for my Civic in full when I purchased it I could maybe put down 60% on this Stinger and make payments because it would be great to get a credit history , everything I have I just buy and I don’t make payments . Back to the car , I like the looks and the stats are great but I’ll need to get more info on this engine that is used in this car , now every Honda I’ve ever purchased I knew the engine and history of other Honda owners history with there cars but I’m in the dark with this V6 and the turbo’s used on that engine , I’m starting to research this Stinger model and all the factory recalls and potential issues to look for . I’ve decided against BMW, Mercedes, Nissan and a few others and I’d like something different then another Honda or Acura . I’m going to go test drive a new Subaru WRX tomorrow and a friend has one and he loves it but just riding in his car it felt as if you sit high in it and the engine was kinda mechanically clunky , maybe not the best explanation but you kinda get it . I really like the looks and performance that is claimed but I’m kinda spooked about it being a KIA

Question: what software were you using for the data logging? I'm using CarScanner Pro, but it does not yet have a profile for my Rav4 Prime, so I have been using the Prius Prime and BZ4X profiles, but neither one includes the MG1, MG2, and MGR Stator temps. And I have not been able to find a post on the Internet with the complete PID's for the Rav4 Prime, so I haven't been able to program custom CarScanner gauges for them. I am looking into getting an Aliner, but don't want to risk towing a trailer until I can get a solid solution for reading critical drivetrain temperatures from the OBD-II port. Great video, though! If your Rav4 Hybrid can tow a 2,000 pound box trailer, my Prime, with it's 180 hp MG2 motor, should be able to tow an Aliner at 55 without worry about overheating.

What's the point of getting the extended range if only recommend to charge to 80%?! Also if the batter is going to degrade over time it'll eventually get to 80% anyway right? So why not just charge it fully and take advantage of the full range for years until it finally degrades that much. Maybe I'm missing something here?

  • @laura-ann.0726
    @laura-ann.0726 Před 11 hodinami

I have a 2023 RAV4 Prime; the tow rating is 2,500 pounds. I want to caution anyone considering a Rav4 Hybrid/Prime or a Highlander Hybrid for towing, about an issue regarding temperature. These cars do not have temperature gauges on the dashboard, so the first indication yo might get, that the engine or transmission is overheating, will be a check engine warning light, and by the time that light comes on, you may have already overstressed the drivetrain. If you are going to tow with any Toyota Hybrid, I strongly recommend that you buy an OBD-II BlueTooth scan tool, and run a diagnostic app like CarScanner or TorquePro on your phone, to monitor engine and transmission temperatures in real time while you are towing. Set up your app to display the following data: 1) Engine coolant temp. 2) Engine Oil Temp. (should be about the same as the coolant temp at freeway speeds) In a Rav4 Hybrid or Prime, both of these temps will be about 194~196 °F at freeway speed, on flat terrain, not towing a trailer. While climbing steep freeway grades (6~7 percent), the coolant temp will rapidly climb to 204~206°F, but should not exceed 208°F. If it does, slow down or pull over and let the cooling system shed excess heat. 3) Transmission Oil Temperature. At freeway speed, I've seen this get as high as 175°F, on flat terrain, not towing a trailer. 4) MG2 Stator Temperature. This is the most critical component in the power train, and the one most sensitive to overload heating when towing a trailer. Normally, the MG2 Stator temperature should not get more than a few degrees higher than the Transmission Oil Temp, since the MG1 and MG2 stators are both cooled by a spray of transmission oil. But if you are towing with a Rav4 Prime, in EV Mode, and climbing a steep hill, it's quite possible for the MG2 Stator to draw up to 135 kilowatts (180 horsepower), and if this condition persists for more than about 10 seconds continuously, the current flow can approach 270 amps, and this will be heating the stator coils faster than the oil spray can cool them, possibly leading to a burned out stator and a $5,000 replacement bill. at normal freeway speed in EV mode, not towing, power to the MG2 motor is about 30 kilowatts, current is about 60 amps, so you can see that uphill, towing a trailer, can easily put a lot of thermal stress on the MG2 stator, and without an OBD-II app to monitor critical temperatures in drivetrain components, you won't have any clue. Bottom line, for the Rav4 Prime, I would not tow a trailer in EV mode at any speed over 35 mph, and only then on flat terrain. If you are climbing hills at all, switch to HV mode and let the gas engine do the work. You don't want to risk overheating your MG2 and MGR drive motors.

The best description I have found is Weber Auto where he goes through the Accord Hybrid ecvt with one overdrive clutch. I don't know if my CRV is the same or not. I also don't know how to drive my CRV to maintain minimum wear on the overdrive clutch other than to minimize the amount I drive 62 mph or more assuming my CRV is only in EV mode for all speeds less than 62 where I assume the overdrive clutch in no in play (i.e. not engaged). I drive my CRV a lot between 25 mph and 45 mph and I assume I am in 181 HP EV mode which is fine and I assume the Clutch does not come into play there.

I had a 2013 Toyota Camry LE as a daily driver, and I loved it. It was great on gas, fun to drive, great on the freeway or in town driving. It's 16 inch tires are full of air and you'll notice a smother ride as compared to thin 19 or 20 inch tires which you'll feel every rut and pothole on the road and are more expensive to replace. The 16 inch tires are inexpensive to replace, and so are the light bulbs. This car is perfect for most people who go to and from work everyday, run errands, weekend trips this Camry is your little work hose. It's a nice looking care and I'd buy one if I didn't own a Toyota Tacoma right now. You can't beat it. I hear a lot of comparisons to Tesla, but the proof is in the pudding we'll see how long Tesla is around and I don't think it'll be around long.

Is it going to launch with a $20k+ manufacturer incentive? Who would pick this over other options? Jeep buyer will buy a hybrid or gas jeep, ev buyers will buy far more polished ev offerings. How will this beat a track hawk 0-60 on thos skinny tires? This car doesnt add up... Stelantis is going to go bankrupt again.

A few aspects I'm a little confused on: 1. The upcoming Cadillac Optiq is essentially a premium/luxury version of the Equinox EV. The Optiq AWD (standard) with a 85kw battery (same as the EQ), has a 300mi range, where as the Equinox EV AWD has 285mi range. 2. The Optiq has 300hp total, and the Equinox AWD is 288hp. *Is there a software lock on the Equinox (range and horsepower) to make the Optiq more "premium"?

With stealership mark up it will be unaffordable again.
