The Honda Civic Hybrid Is Back For 2025 With 200 HP AND 50 MPG!?

- čas přidán 20. 05. 2024
- When Honda said they were bringing back the Civic hybrid, many of us expected a reworked version of the Insight's 1.5L 2-motor hybrid, or just the same hybrid as the Civic e:HEV from Europe and Japan, but instead they cranked the dial all the way up to 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft to make this the most powerful non Type R Civic ever**. (Previous gen Civic Si engines made a hair more HP, but way less torque. The current Si is 200 HP and 192 lb-ft.) We don't have final MPG numbers yet, but we're told that the combined MPG should be around 50 with city or highway numbers being above that lofty number.
2025 also brings an updated infotainment system to the top trims and a new bumper to all the Civics... But still no air vents. |Sad trombone|

I was going to buy a new Corolla hybrid sedan but now I'm definitely going to wait a month and buy the 2025 Civic Hybrid! 200 HP and 50 MPG is great! Especially since the Civic has more passenger space and more cargo room than the Corolla. Civic wins!
Expect to pay 5k more... Honda Civic price is always closer to the Camry than the Corolla
Remember that one of these hybrids may only net you a fuel savings of around $30 a month. Gotta weigh that with the initial price and know that it may take many years to recoup.
Camry wins over Civic. CIvic are so overpriced, you might as well get a much better Camry.
yeah the old corolla lol!!!!!
@@ComenzandoBien Civic will be more expensive but not 5k more. New 2024 Toyota Corolla LE is $23,200 including destination. New 2024 Civic LX is $24,700 including destination. A difference of $1,500. So expect the new Civic to be 2k more than Corolla
This new hybrid Civic just might be the smartest choice of any car in America...
Thank you Honda! Now I just need to wait for markups to disappear...
The death of the markup would be a celebrated one. -Travis
The Toyota markup is gone i my local area (I even got offered with a $500 discount), so I can't imagine Honda markup to be hanging around much longer.
Until legally mandated dealers are no more, there will be markups
Most of the time you should be able to find a dealer with no markups, you might just have to wait a few months.
@@james2042 Dealer discount has existed for ages and many more have been sold at MSRP so that's simply not true.
Without dealers you may get the cars with no markups, but you could also be overcharged for repairs like apple.
The hybrid hatch is going to sell like hotcakes, as long as stealerships don't price gouge on markups
it won’t drive like the Si it’s too heavy
Enjoy the repairs I’ve had two hybrids from honda. Parts are insane
I’ll wait for a year but the new Civic hatchback has moved to the top of my list
This is probably going to be the only car I recommend to people who don't need more performance or a third row. The accord is a bit too big, the prius has a weird interior and I don't know how the Camry will be. But this car has already proven itself in Europe. All hybrid cars should be making around 200hp. There's now no reason for them not to.
These things are going to sell like crazy
If the sticker price is reasonable and dealers don't get too greedy, these cars will fly off the dealership.
Yep
@@MyMovie5858 The current sport touring is $32k. So after yearly price increase plus hybrid, you're looking at $35k.
@@steve8803 if at $35k, I think this will compare favorably to the Prius Limited.
@@MyMovie5858I would just avoid the local dealers if they all want markup, I wouldn't mind driving further out if there are good deals out of town 😅
Love my 2024 accord touring model! Pleasantly surprised by how much I love the hybrid powertain. Super quiet, refined and smooth drive. I get 44 MPG combined with 19 wheels.
I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for a hybrid HR-V soon and hopefully in that gorgeous boost blue as well
The more hybrid entries in Honda's lineup the closer we get to your hope. -Travis
I would consider the sedan. It’s definitely one of the best looking in its class.
Honda is definitely a big player in the hybrid space
Since the waiting for a Prius is still about (ridiculous) 1 year, I might as well just wait for this Hatchback. Thank you!
The prius is so damn ugly
@@sergeysmelnikThe Prius just has a “different” yet functional design. Many car enthusiasts like the new styling of the Prius, but it sounds like you’re less reluctant to accept the changes.
The previous Prius prime looked better than the new one, had more room in back too. I went to IKEA and got 2 Billy bookcases and they fit in the car. I don't think y could do that with the new one. @@rylans.5365
New Prius has shrunk its trunk. And headroom in the back has been reduced. It’s a disappointment. They shouldn’t have stopped making Prius V. It was the best model.
This is perfect powertrain for the upcoming Prelude. I’m ready for Honda to please bring back a two-door car. Prelude I can’t wait.
It's a nice looking car. Plenty of power. You can buy a kit for less than $100 to add the rear vents and a charger port. Now we wait and see what Acura does with the Integra
Hybrid Integra would be amazing, I love my integra but it would be hard to pass up 50MPG for the same amount of power roughly
@@Tatus_legarius I almost got the Integra. Wife vetoed the MT. That nent no LSD. Other than the amazing looks and a few premium touches. I could not justify the extra cost. Not on our budget anyway. I hope you enjoy that car. That is a sweet ride. I ended up getting a sport touring. It's nice enough.
It’s about damn time. Nice offering for a usable hatch mixed with great mpg.
damn alex congrats on the name change hope you get many more subs! OG follower here
These look great!
It’s official guys, the Si will be history 😢
I hope they give Si some deserved loved, you can tell how underpowered it was on top of having a bad engine with this release.
Please Honda!!!! Save the Manuals!!
@@betafinancesquad Si auto-only would be a low blow. It would be a big mistake removing manual option to Si and Type R
SI needs the detuned 2.0T from the old accord
@@sergeysmelnik detuned with hybrid to at least make it 230ish
@@GamerNesto No it wont need hybrid. Hybrid would make it be auto only and non moddable. Look at the 2.0T accord tunes and mods. Thats what the SI needs.
This will sell like hot pancakes! I'll trade-in my 2023 Civic Hatchback Sport for the 2025 Civic Hatchback Sport Touring. Can't wait to test drive this beauty. Thank you, Honda!!! You nailed it this time.
At least you don't have to worry about oil dilution again.😂😂😂
@@timothylee2772 there is no oil dilution on my 2.0L naturally aspirated Civic Hatchback Sport.
Very exciting to see the new Civic Hybrid. Looked at the new Prius when it came out and it felt much smaller to me when I actually sat in one. The Prius rear seat took a large hit as well as the cargo space. I bought a 22 Honda Insight in the interim and really enjoy its build quality, driving dynamics and fuel economy. I can enjoy the Insight while I wait for the dealers to decrease or stop their crazy mark ups. The Camry hybrid will put price pressure on Honda with pricing imho, the Camry starting at $28,400.
Great explanation of the difference between the Toyota and Honda hybrid systems at well. Both systems have proven to be quite long lasting. Additionally the non turbo, normally aspirated engines for both will likely be more reliable long term in both.
The Prius felt much smaller because it is much smaller. If priced similarly, the Civic hatch will be a more accommodating alternative.
Anything on the 2025 SI? Thanks for the video.
1:37 "The Civic has always looked a little bit more elegant and a little bit more restrained as far as its design..."
( Cue a Type R to use its giant wing to fly into the room, circling around Alex's head shouting _"WOOOOOOO, BRO!"_ )
@ichinichisan LOL the type r is 1% of civic sales. He's obviously referring to the 99%.
I liked the Coupe design. The standard Hatchback (and Type-R) was, arguably, hideous. Only the Insight could have been deemed "elegant" or "restrained."
Wonder what the implications are for the Teggy then. A little more of a power bump mayhaps? Unrealistically hoping for something like 250 hp
That dark blue looks sooo good
I was interested in waiting for this a few months back but decided instead to get a 2023 Elantra Hybrid. I had an Accord Hybrid and really liked it, but the Elantra is more comfortable for me. I like the way the hybrid system drives better. Plus, I'm getting significantly better mpg's. 46 on my Accord vs. 59 on my Elantra. I'm on the highway multiple times a week and the Honda hybrid system is just not good at speeds higher than 60. Rarely am I under 60 mpg average on a daily drive in my Elantra, regardless of city or highway driving.
This will sell well... as long as there's no markups
Damn, it's only Tuesday. I guess I'll push my home depot trip to tomorrow. So glad my 09 Vibe GT can hold multiple bbq's.
I often thought of upgrading my base Vibe to a GT. How is your 2.4 engine holding up in regard to oil consumption?
@@rightlanehog31512.4L 2AZ-FE would be a downgrade.
God, finally Honda brought the hybrid civic over. It's been sold in the UK for ages now. I never understood why they didn't bring it over the pond. Why wait for your competitors to beat you to the punch? Like, thank you? For finally doing what you should've done ages ago? How many people bought a Prius when they would've preferred the civic with 50mpg? What dumbassery. I'm glad it's here, though, all things considered.
Bit of a stretch to suggest Honda doesn't know what they're doing. My assumption is there were still parts logistics/parts availability aftershocks at the beginning of this platform, so the initial hybrid focus was on the European and UK markets where they 1) have more stringent emissions/electrification requirements and 2) sell the Civic at a higher price point. Devote the resources you do have to the places that regulations and profitability matter most. Honda still sold a ton of gas-only Civics in North America in the meantime.
Unfortunately in the delay, they lost me as a potential customer, but it probably doesn't matter, last I talked to a dealer waiting line is already very long. I do think it's funny that Alex keeps saying we don't know exact performance/consumption figures, etc... can't imagine there would be significant engineering changes, so that's all been comprehensively tested elsewhere.
Production capacity is why.
No excuses! I want what I want and I want it now!!!111!
😂
It's because our idiotic emissions and safety regulations are disproportionately strict for smaller cars versus trucks and SUVs. Car companies make more money in the US selling us SUVs and trucks we don't need, and thus, small cars get fewer trim levels versus their bigger, taller siblings.
Plus our fuel prices tend to be lower than the rest of the world, so the added cost of the hybrid usually turns most US buyers away. However, that is quickly changing and car companies know this.
Do you not remember the 2010s hybrid???😂
Dang. This refresh looks nice. I'm genuinely surprised.
Love the new dark blue!
I really hope this refresh gives the Civic ventilated front seats!
Sadly it looks like there's no button for seat vents. Both the cars in the vid are the highest trim level so they'd have them if any did
Nope, it's already too pricey. Ventilated seats would easily add 1k. The sport touring is already 35k!
@@Wised1000 It would definitely not be $1k... It's a butt fan with seat holes.
@@Ichibuns Were it as simple as that! Anything that deviates from standard costs money. That's why all brands are cookie cutters of different sizes. Commonality means profit.
It's honda. You can only keep dreaming about them adding such features haha. Especially on a refresh.
Nice to see there is almost no compromises with the Hybrid option, my work usually snags civics for our fleet of cars and typically average around 38MPG but that's on the smallest engine option and makes it brutal to get up to speed on the highway.
Alas don't think the fuel savings would make sense for would only equate around $500 annually per car.
Is it safe to assume Honda didn’t fix the blatant rear seat cheap-out in which the rear door panels are almost entirely hard plastic and don’t match the fronts? I don’t know when or how that became acceptable on any car, but Honda is doing it in pretty much everything, including “Touring” trims. It’s the kind of thing that American automakers were rightly ripped for in 80s interiors.
You expect that in this segment. But I will say the plastics feel much more premium and higher quality than some
Did you see the wrinkles in the sedan rear seat surface? Also looked very flat and unsupportive to me.
@@naveenthemachine No, I certainly don’t expect it in this segment or most any segment. This is a relatively new thing for Honda. They didn’t used to do this, nor did most any automaker. 90s Civics had matching doors. My Mazda Protege had matching doors. There’s no excuse. Honda’s even doing it on the Accord and SUVs. It’s just cynical cost cutting in a place Honda thinks no one will notice until after they’ve bought the car.
Accord Touring rear door panels are not hard plastic and it has rear vents.
I’m glad they didn’t add the rear seat vents. I prefer my rear seat occupants to be hot. Plus it saved me $30.00 in cost on a $30,000 car.
Love the look but why did they get rid of the fog lights
My beater died a few months ago and I bought the EX-L hatch 😢. Wish it lasted until these hit the market. I didn’t want to stretch my budget to get the accord hybrid.
Will be just a couple k below accord hybrid.
Will the integra also get the hybrid powertrain?
THIS -- anxious to see what, if anything, Acura does with the Integra for 2025. They are starting to get sold below MSRP and may become a better buy then the Civic touring
Good question. I think it could be possible since they did it before with the ILX back in 2013, and back then, the hybrids weren't as popular compared to now except prius...
Finally! It's been available overseas for a couple of years already!
Alex youll get the 5 door model!!! So Hatchback it is!!!
I have the hatchback hybrid here in UK. Enjoy it’s amazing.
How many miles do you get on hybrid mode !
As we say in French…Magnifique! I am ordering one!
Do love both those colors
Now we just need a plug-in model.
Beautiful car!
I'm actually excited about this. I've always wanted a suitable replacement for a RSX
A ECVT/CVT transmission is not a replacement for a RSX.
@Mr44rr there were auto versions.... I have a near mint 05 Type S, but many were the regular versions and people enjoyed them as well.
Hybrid AWD Type R LETS GOOOOO
No AWD on this platform. It wasn’t designed for it. Perhaps the next generation civic will offer it?
All I want is a Civic Hybrid that's very efficient at 75-80 MPH. I look forward to your high-speed MPG testing.
It's all engine at 70-80 mph. So not efficient compared to city.
@@tofubeanz To clarify, I'm talking about fuel efficiency at very high, sustained speeds, compared to other high-efficiency hybrids.
Unless they changed the hybrid system, you're not going to get it at those speeds. Better off saving the money and getting the ICE only versions that will get you similar highway fuel economy. I am not pleased with my highway fuel economy on our '23 Accord Touring Hybrid, but we do enough city driving to make it worthwhile.
It's gonna be relatively efficient, but not crazy like a diesel. In the 40 mpg range.
I can think of many ways to save money that are better than deleting rear seat air vents. I would trade analog instrument gauges for rear seat air vents any day!
Not only are there no rear air vents, they also removed the two USB ports for the rear seats that were available on the Touring trim before!
The Civic has better interior design and cargo capacity than the Prius. The Prius Prime, however, has an edge in performance, electric range, and looks way sharper (subjective of course). Here in Canada there's even a substantial rebate ($7K CDN) to make the Prime a better buy than the regular Prius. Nice to see Honda offers the hybrid though as an alternative.
Which is best? Led reflector or led projector lights?
I’m glad to see they didn’t keep the button transmission switch they have on the European Civic. It’s just odd.
Love how they didn’t use an insanely massive screen like on the Accord hybrid
Exactly. I prefer this smaller screen. It would’t look proportional if they put that big ass screen.
I think this will be a homerun for Honda. It has great economy, room, decent HP, and a good price. Will it sell like a Rav4, maybe not, but it should do quite well.
Will there be refreshed civic Si and type R?
I'm sure that the Civic Hybrid will be a hot seller. And I feel that the Accord will also eventually go all hybrid soon, just like the 2025 Toyota Camry.
Great upgrades, but not having Sirius XM radio is a deal breaker for me. 😞
I wouldn’t mind a Civic couple for 2026
Do all dual clutch transmissions make subtle noises and can feel the shifting? Especially on hills, where it hunts for a gear? My Kia Niro PHEV does this and apparently this is normal? If so, what an awful engineering decision. Any insight would be nice. This car sounds great. Wish they would do a plugin version with more unique styling.
A little of topic, the Insight (from 2019) can be considered as a hybrid version of the Civic. I was a bit disappointed that Honda didn't do an aerodynamic exterior styling like the 1st gen Insight since it looked similar to the Civic (I'm not saying the Civic looked bad). Even the Clarity should have been called the Insight (and should offer a regular hybrid powertrain along with the plug-in). I loved how the 1st gen Insight looked, so I'm not ruling out an Insight with a strange, yet futuristic aerodynamic design with potentially an EV powertrain, considering the move toward electrification of the industry.
As for this Civic hybrid, it definitely will appeal to many people and can rival against the Corolla Hybrid and Prius. Overall, Honda did a good job on adding a new hybrid to their lineup.
the only hybrid im interested in
We have to help Alex! He's been trapped in the Honda Void! 🤣
I've been waiting for this car since 2022!
But I'm going to keep waiting until the final model year to replace the car I just bought.
Great idea! Hybrid is basically an electric turbo that uses less gas. Civic hatchback is the best hot hatch! They might as well discontinue the sedan.
Rear vents and charging ports is $100 kit and looks like you can put on yourself in about 20 minutes or so. No big deal not a deal killer.
I have been waiting for this car. HONDA
Tell honda to bring back the clarity plug in
Or better yet, Civic PHEV hatch to rival Prius Prime.
Perfect one-car solution.
@@donswier eh i want the 50+ miles of range and the powerful electric motor. If they can fit that within the civic without reducing interior or cargo space, then sure.
How is visibility with the now even lower (least it looks lower ) roofline?
What does that mean for the Civic Si though? Will it get a bump in horsepower?
Can this be done on th Honda pilot ?
Finally. How long has Europe already had this. Glad they at least didn't insist on only selling a sedan version...
I know they'll never do it, but a manual hyrbrid hatchback would be an amazing daily
There was a manual Civic Hybrid 20 years ago.
I genuinely don't understand the lack of rear air vents! Otherwise, really nice package.
Want the hybrid hatchback but need to figure out if a compact spare fits under the floor. Nowhere near ready to live without a spare tire.
No spare fits in this car. The battery takes up too much space.
@@afcgeo882 Odd that the battery is not in the same place as the sedan.
@@richodonald9155 It’s not odd. The hatchback is shorter.
I've really been looking forward to the new Civic Hybrid. I currently have a 2018 Sport Touring hatch (1.5T w/ cvt) and consistently get 36mpg combined, with my best hwy at 42mpg and city hanging around 30mpg. But that's with the recommended Premium fuel and at least $1-$1.50 more per gallon. I would have gone with the 2019 Insight, but at the time I needed the cargo space more than the max fuel efficiency. I'm hoping the new hybrid gets about 50city and at least what I get in my current Civic on the hwy...all with Regular gasoline. If the pricetag and markups are not stupid crazy, I'll be upgrading.
hybrids typically have at least a 40% increase in city mpg over a gas only equivalent
@@JD-yx7be Yes, that's what we've seen with our 2022 Accord EX-L hybrid. But with the "smaller" size of the Civic, I'm not expecting that much, though I am hopeful.
Civic recommends/requires premium fuel? That's surprising to me.
@@ragweedmakesmesneeze for the 2018 1.5L turbo, yes. It's both in the manual and on the sticker inside the gas flap. It can run Regular (87 octane), that is required, but Premium (91 or higher) is recommended.

The Hatch will give serious competition to the Prius. So many of our customers want more space in their hybrid hatch & the Honda dealership is right next to our Toyota dealership... The game is on.
How about battery capacity and warranty?
Alot nicer front bumper.
Why do they keep cycling between the Insight and the Civic Hybrid?
Honda likes to keep things simple and easy when it comes to refreshes.
I'd imagine few consumers even realized it existed.
The Insight was discontinued for the sole purpose of the Civic Hybrid
They can't sell both so they keep on juggling here & there
I preferred the 2.0 DOHC VTEC with 200HP over any 1.5 turbo.
07:35 If you get an SE trim Corolla hybrid the tires aren’t much narrower than these are.
Will there be an integra version of the hybrid?
Honda hybrid buyers should beware. My 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid was part of a class action lawsuit.
There are two types of EV battery warranties, failure warranties and capacity warranties. Most, if not all, manufacturers offer a failure warranty. (e.g., 8 years/100,000 miles) This is applicable if the battery fails completely. Some, but definitely not all, manufacturers offer an explicit battery capacity warranty (e.g., minimum of 65% capacity available for 8 years/100,000 miles). If you buy a vehicle that does not have a capacity warranty and the capacity drops by 80%, what is your EV battery worth? My 2007 Civic Hybrid battery dropped 84% in 5 years. My 2017 Leaf dropped 13% in 18 months.
where is it make? Canada? US?
When does it go on sale?
Alex, This could be the most practical Civic since the days of the Civic wagon. It is time for the Corolla Hybrid to step up its practicality game with the inclusion of the hatch and wagon in the North American lineup. 😁 With Honda's elevated pricing strategy, we may find the AWD Camry Hybrid is cheaper than a FWD Civic hybrid. 🤔
Sure if you compare the cheapest bare bones Camry LE Hybrid to the fully loaded top trim Civic Sport Touring Hybrid. However that would be a disingenuous comparison since the fully loaded Civic has a lot more features and creature comforts. A fully loaded Camry Hybrid is over $41,000 USD!
I think we've found the new king for best overall compact hybrid. If you want to spend more or need more space, the new Camry should move straight to the top of your shopping list.
Would have been better if the updated front and rear ends resembled the CN-market Honda Integra. Still looks better than the ghastly Elantra and the hatch will give the Prius a run for its money.
It's nice that the hybrid is being marketed as the best of both worlds option (more powerful yet more fuel efficient).
My guess is that the Integra will be switched to this as well. Honda is looking to get rid of the 1.5 turbo. It’s been nothing, but trouble.
Did they improve the NVH at all?
They added noise canceling tech on the upper trims
Now this is interesting....I'm guessing some enthusiasts will find ways to improve the handling and maybe increase performance.
Now I'll have to wait and see how pricing is for this.
I wonder what’s the difference between this American specced Hybrid Civic when compared to the global Civic e:HEV model which has the 181hp system.
Would it kill Honda to give us some wheel options that provide actual friggin sidewall on the tires for the upper trims?
Trade them out if they are so offensive to you.
It's not just Honda. -Travis
The 235 tires will severely reduce mpg.
@@ALMX5DP I shouldn’t need to do that on a commuter car. Keep the low profile to the SI and let the regular Civic actually be comfortable.

They won’t
The 2020 corolla couldn’t even compete with a 2016 civic. The next gen corolla we haven’t seen yet still cannot compete with the civic
Can't wait to have these tailgate me with all of those 200hp ._.
And what transmission does it have? I didn't hear you mention it. Maybe I missed it. The Honda newsroom release also didn't mention the transmission. Must not be a feature.
E-CVT just like the Accord and CR-V. The name is deceiving since it's not really a CVT at all, but rather a clutch that switches between direct drive motor at low speeds to direct-drive engine at high speeds.
I'm hoping for 4.8 litres per 100km in the new Civic hybrid (in town) and around 5 on the highway (at 100kph). The new styling cues front and rear are nice. I wish / hope that the cabin is quieter.
I wonder if they put this hybrid in the HRV?
Is there a model with sensible wheels? Like 17” or 18” with thick walls?
The LX will probably come with 16" or 17" like the current LX or EX models. Other than that, 18's across the board which is unfortunate for those of us who live in the snow belt.
