Registrace 30. 10. 2022
I’ve been a professional loctician and locs educator for well over 10 years. Based in a Boise salon, and traveling the Pacific Northwest doing locs and living in my van.
Applying the science of hair to locs has been a secret passion of mine, that I think is crucial to the craft of a loctician.
So I set out to bring you information and make it entertaining.
I’m sure there’s a lot to my personal story that I will bring you as well.
Grew up punk rock, traveling and hitchhiking and squatting places. I took turns in and out of active addiction. Some rough roads that I smile upon. There’s recovery, and growth, and success, and a ton of love here these days.
🥰
And yeah,
There’s stories.
You can get to know me better on my personal rubbertrampin’ channel, now that I’ve moved up into hash tag Van Life.

What am I doing here?! (Loc care logistics)
This is a video to help introduce new people to the discussions here. More, to convey the basic understanding that this is your journey, and I am only giving a bunch of waits to care for locs. Nothing is one size fits all in life, neither is it here a loc care.
Just because there’s forward bends in yoga, does not mean that you need to touch your toes to be able to meditate in motion.
Also, if it doesn’t fit, don’t force it.
Chalk it up.
Maybe it fits later, and maybe it doesn’t.
That’s ok.
There’s more to learn and more to try. Some things just simply won’t work. Yet, there is a method that will be yours for your journey. And hopefully you’ll find out what that is.
So hopefully this video helps people to understand the concept of loc maintenance, and where their hair fits into that action.

So it’s a trippy day, finishing closing out a chapter of life that taught me so much about myself and the way I go through life. To the point of quitting smoking and investing in stocks. Love This VID! Not really sure how to explain why, and Ill be thinking about that for a while... Thanks for all you are putting out in the world! PS: I would love to see a vid on you maintaining your beard. It always looks flawless!
I kinda dig that! And I’m glad it hit home for ya somehow. Funny, I thought that about my beard today when I was fading up my hair(undercut) and trimming the beard. I might do that. I know there’s a short in there on how to trim the hairline at the locs… way back when I first started getting confident voicing things over and such.
I do have a question. Why after root maintenance do dreads sometimes get loops at the root? Why is that happening? Thanks!
So far, I’ve come to think it stems from some hair growing faster at some points… though I’m not really sure why, and don’t like to pretend I know a thing. Though I do know that I utilize a comb before crochet, and sometimes I’ll have my client “fiddle” with the bases that last couple weeks before I see them. (Meaning twisting tight with the fingers at the bases to get them to spiral more. This can get the hair to line up as it grows…
@@locdoctorfell I appreciate you keeping it real. I'll try the comb and see if that helps. Thank you!
@@manipura_sun right on. I hope it helps
I did it Doc! Went last week. Got a partial set. 10 total locs. I listen to your wisdom and appreciate your work.
Oh hell yeah!!! Woot woot!🎉🙌 I’m stoked to be a little part of your journey! Grateful. 🙏 Partials are like Offspring say “gotta keep em separated!”
I appreciate you!❤

@@locdoctorfell - You are very welcome 🙃💖💐
Oddly, I'm a surfer and don't know a surfer who has ANY fn dreads😂😂😂
@@carlosaramosss8166 bahaha! That’s Frikkin awesome! I honestly can’t think of more than 2 right now… stereotypical explanations I suppose from my end too🤣🙌
🤘
🙌🎉
I have fine hair, and castille soap made my dreads feel so dry and crunchy and fried. I hated it. I've been using a bar shampoo from earthling co. So far so good.
Oh sweet!!! I love the idea of the shampoo bar.
That's how I do mine 😊. But o don't have the "chopsticks" 😉🙂. I use a soft band. Easy and nice style. Enyoi the weeknd 🙏👍💃🧚♀️
Hell yeah! Honestly, just was gifted these and tried for the first time about a month ago… so I’m new with the stocks too🤣🎉
Sir it's like you are another fractal version of me with so much more experience with locs. I just got mine last week and I just started following you and saw this. Everything you said resonates with me. I welcome the ego deaths and change in perspective. Getting locs are definitely a part of my spiritual journey. Thank you for your authenticity and love.
Bahaha. Who knows, I might use sir in my language here and there. Mostly as a response to a certain degree of militant posse attached, as my little prison boot camp stint in my early 20’s gave me some “sir yes sir” and “by your leave,ma’am.”(s) They still escape my mouth here and there.
Also, stoked we got resonance through the Either like fractal stuff. I love when love presents itself in the folds.
@@locdoctorfell thats nuts. I was in the Marines in what seems like another life. I just say it to give respect, not out of habit. But I def know the "By your leave Ma'am or Sir" that one got me when I read it. I also laugh at things in a text with a "Bwahahaha"
@@daniellarson6720 heh yeah! I’m glad it’s in there and we can still kinda see that part live in there somewhere.
I'm so happy you've taken the time to put it to words. So helpful, and I have a new respect for my own, and their journeys
I’m grateful something said “hit home” for you! 🥰 and can bring new perspectives in.
I love your beard! Perfect length!😊
Thanks about that!🎉🙌 definitely easier than shaving all the time 🤣
This is so good. It’s really something that people don’t understand! I’m on my second set after 10 years without them (3 weeks in) and I was struggling so bad. Luckily, I had recorded my journey from 10 years ago and going back and watching how much I was struggling in the beginning really helped me put the journey back into perspective. I’m excited to GROW 🙌🏻
Heck yeah! I’m so stoked for your new journey! And you’re old to look at for support. Grateful to have you along for this part of my journey too!

Hello, I'm new here.. love what I've watched and learned so far! Are you saying a finger type roll on the bubbles will tuck them in a little? Like a palm roll but with just fingers?
In a sense, yes. I utilize this more (at a red light in traffic) lol- kidding- kind of. I use it more at the bases, as the loc grows. So like a nervous habit of mine at red lights… I’m saying that over time,we are shaping the locs. And especially utilizing damp forming as a “wet set” to stretch out and form our locs over time. Wet set after wet set patience like
I’ve been waiting for my hair to grow so I can start my long-awaited loc journey. I think by the beginning of 2025 it’ll be long enough…I’m so excited. My favorite people wear locs and I just think my time is coming as I hit my mid 20s. I’m glad this video was recommended for me because I’ve watched some of your other videos on locs and liked them. I really love hearing someone speak about the spiritual/metaphysical aspects behind locs!
I’m grateful that my videos can add to the journey for you! And even more that my personal takes on some stuff is also just as fun to hear as the sciences of it.
My journey starts Friday. I’m growing and change is scary. I’m excited to get my locs and feel like they are meant to be my companions in this new chapter of my life. Bless you for sharing your thoughts and knowledge with us.
Hell yeah!!🙌 I’m so grateful to be a part of your journey in this little way too! Stoked these little videos help.
Excellent points made. I have shaved my head going through divorce then grew it to my knees. Ego death is a real experience that I wouldn't trade for anything. Been loc'd up for 2 years 8 months now and love it!❤
Yessss! I love the 2 year mark! 🎉 they’re just getting soft like, and airpuffed.
I stopped shaving my head when I had my son. I hadn't made the connection between the fact that people (often) shave their head in grief until very recently (my kid is 5 now) and boy did I grieve when I was told 20something years ago that I could never conceive nor carry! There's waaaaayyyyyyyyyyy more to my story (as there is everyone's) but I need to go to work now! 💜
@@laurawoods6604 holy smokes yeah connection! I love that fits can get connected later and paint a few more colors into the past. And as for stories, thank you for opening into your truth here on our little channel 🙌 I appreciate your opening up.

Also to add onto my comment, I think it’d be such a sick idea to do subscriber loc reviews! Kinda like knotnation used to do. We could all send in photos & have you review each set and give your personal feedback and guessing which method we all used to start our different loc journeys! (:

Haha! Super stoked to hear some feedback that way too, here for the journey with me, and I fukkin dig that. I was thinking more along the lines of doing live client sessions with you guys somehow. Just not good with tech, nor figuring out how to go live, and do all that part. If I had a homie here to show me the ropes, I’d run it.
Which I guess would kinda be like a review, yet more like custom care ideas and things that would flow best with that journey. Living and choosing how care looks more, so a persons tool box is full
Love this. Definitely learned more about loving Myself and thinking less about what others think after starting my locs. Weird how hair can really change my perspective on life as a whole. Really feeling the whole mini ego death!
What a beautiful journey it can be! And the personal growth is just one super Fukkin cool aspect.
Today is my one year anniversary when I got my locs done. Don't know that I've experienced any kind of ego death because I got them done for a specific religious reason so I keep my ego out of it. And because of a bad fall back in November I've been out of the public eye a great deal, so maybe that's part of why I haven't encountered much kick back about them. I'm 65 so I'm pretty comfortable in my own skin and though I try never to offend anyone, I generally choose not to accept offense from anyone either. The one thing I've noticed, and perhaps it's because I haven't been able to get professional maintenance done for over nine months is, they seem to still be in the shrinking stage and I kind of thought that would have passed by now. Oh well, they are a part of me now and I don't have any plans of getting rid of them, so they will just keep maturing and growing (I hope)😂. I'd love to think they'll get to my waist before I die😂 You do bring a certain balance in the perspective of this journey and your locs are awesome, perfect really! So keep sharing and teaching us and know that you are appreciated ❤
Oh Fukk yess babe!! So stoked!🙌🎉 And grateful to be a part of it from here!
Also, might not look like big ol Egodeath.. as much as more like, often I see… a person grow in those two years, their relationship and perspective with the world around them that’s wayyy different. That “65 and comfortable” is a thing been long talked about too though, and it sounds quite similar to how having locs helps one be more comfortable Or the 15 year old girl shaving the head feels less need to fulfill some bullshit beauty standard the rest of their life.
@@locdoctorfell let's face it, the beauty industry is a billion dollar crock! They even try to do it in the dreadlock world with unnecessary and over priced products. Everyone can choose to do what they like. It's a learning process. The only regrets I have is that I didn't learn all this 30 or 40 years ago. But instead of regret I'll just choose to be grateful to be who and where I am today. And be grateful for the people around me near and far❤️
@@wandacraig8286 I love that way to go navigating the world. And yes, they take a choke hold on salons and dreadlocks. It’s why I always tell people to research their shampoo ingredients. There just isn’t a “loc shampoo” in the states that doesn’t utilize bronners or coconut oil in some way. Simple, it’s horrible for hair and hippies love the word“natural” so big pharma makes a killing on dreadlock shampoo too🤣
I love all your videos and listening to your chats. Hair is energy just as we are energy. I believe as hair connected to crown chakra their defo energetic connection. I believe growing locks is a journey & and one has to feel when time is right to start. It is a transition soul / vibration wise in my opinion. Thank you for your chats. We are all connected. Bless up 🙏👏
I frikkin love hearing from you when you join in! This is all part of what I see in this journey too. The crown of the head, and hands, the intention, the love. All the things in there. I’ll cancel appointments if my energy is fuct that day. I’ve rescheduled loctician classes because I didn’t want to just teach em how to do dreadlocks like a robot. And at the time, that’s all I could muster was the information and hand motions to crochet. So yeah, even that stuff has huge energy things with it.
@@locdoctorfell yes I hear u 👍

Thanks about that!🤘 happy loc’ing!
What are they called
why does yt people take colored skin hair styles?
It’s hair dude nobody has a right to claim any way of doing it as their own. Your body, your temple. You people need to get over yourself
Nearly every black woman alive has wore or wanted a straight hair wig do not even try it. Black women been straightening their own hair for years. Give your head a wobble, or should we start cutting off black girls hair if they straighten it to make a point? I’m mixed btw. Half black.
👍@@tristanatchison7810
awesome
You're a beautiful soul. God bless you!
Gratitude 🙏 thank you. Lighter than a feather, I think was the weight in this particular diet. The funny thing is, to get that, one has to live a life full of compassion and care. And truly make decisions throughout their entire lifetime that keep their “heart light” (Or at least not making the heart heavy, I would think) It’s probably an impossible feat. Which is why it’s such a challenge to try and do. All the while, it’s creating a life worth experiencing, rather than one to run away from.
Happy 16th Birthday. I’m on the road to recovery Too. I have 60 days tomorrow. Today I’m a better person thanks for the video
Hell yeah! Fukkin rocking it! There’s dum shit I could say like “it gets easier” Kinda, in a sense… though it’s mostly a lie. Eventually it changes though. Where the euphoria slips and it’s no longer a “fun thought” anymore. Instead, the thought of using usually comes along with some detriment of life. Shit that happens that is Fukkin hard. Breakups and deaths and abrupt lane changes that bring a person to a quitting point. That’s when the thought comes in… instead of to celebrate or enjoy(euphoria) Euphoria disappears eventually. It doesn’t necessarily get easier though…
Yes! Even I can look like a tweaker!
Oh yeah! Totally
Great explanation about the bonds breakage in wet hair and the parallel you made with rollers and curling iron. You are the first person that I heard talk about dread as normal hair. I finally realized that if I don't set them, with palm rolling and root rubbing and so on, my locks will look like a mess. Also caring about our dreads without inducing breakage!! People rarely talk about it. From now on I will baby my dreads like I did my untreated hair. Thank you so much 🌺✌
Heck yeah! I absolutely love that a little perspective shift can open up an entire self love / self care thing just about hair and locs. Right there, gratitude. Thank you
Congratulations to you! I am proud of you. ☺️
Thank you for pulling up along this journey

@@locdoctorfell hey man i was wondering if you could do a video or maybe you already have one about essential oils for dreads i know some people put some every morning mix with distillate water and i wanted to know your opinion about that
I don’t have a big opinion either way there. And I have personal ways of only speaking to things I know. Which I doing know much about essential oils other than I like the smells better than synthetic smell and on that same note, would think if there’s a remedy one gets from an oil, then that’s better than pharma in my opinion. And again, I don’t know much further than they smell nice and there’s certain properties attached to specific oils.

I have a question and maybe you can guide me on direction to one of your videos but I have been thinking of painting my locs. What do you recommend? Buy a lot? I’m in between of dyeing them black or almost that burgundy color you have. What brand do you recommend? TIA
I don’t recommend you color your own locs. Or home hair color from the store. 90%of me time the chemicals are too strong and just no good. Something Worth investing in, if you want color, in my opinion
@@locdoctorfell got it! While I was reading your comment I’m all thinking “I gotta start savings then” lol 😂 thank you for your advice 😊
@@Natattack0713CODM it’s definitely worth it for your locs and for the overall health of your hair if a professional does it (that knows what they’re doing) Just remember, it’s not uncommon for us to have to shampoo and rinse rinse rinse all over again afterwards just to be sure to get it all out. Shampoo bowls are hard to maneuver sometimes.
i love you videos, i look forward to seeing them get posted, my head has been locd for 2 years, had maintance last time 1 year ago, and have been maintaning them since. i love my loctian but my roots get pulled so easily its not funny, thus making more loose stains at my base grow out and having to get them maintained. i love how i can just let my hair grow naturally or if i just want to do some maintaining 1 day or even separating it through a whole week.
Thank you! And I’m stoked you are along for the ride! And I suppose there is that ability to let it go for a moment. I try not go to long without doing song kind of care though, personally.

The self love, and not caring about what others think is my favorite part of my locs. This quote runs in my head continuously and it goes “If you let other people’s perception of you dictate your behavior, then you will never grow as a person. But if you leave yourself open to new experiences, despite what others think. Then you will grow and learn.” It was from Boy Meets World. And it really hit home for me. Also love your locs, they’re sick! ❤️
