So lovely to see you younger guys enjoying Jeff’s music. Ive been a Super-fan since mid 70s and OUT OF THE BLUE and DISCOVERY. I travelled from Australia to San Diego last November 2023 to see Jeff & ELO at a VetsAid concert. Front row, right in front of Jeff. He even spoke to me and gave me a special farewell when he’d finished. A dream come true!!

I wouldn't say it's a simple song. Led Zeppelin's song "Kashmir" uses a polymeter, which means it has two different time signatures happening at the same time. It's an alternating 5/8 and 6/8 time signature with a straight 4/4 in the bridge and middle.

Every second of this album was by design, and really the best Rock there was. I was in high school, and man we smoked a lot of pot taking this masterpiece in. They didnt have "organ effects" back then, and no synths. That's a Hammond organ - rebuilt to Tom's specs. Absolute brilliance

Nothing quite like this tune in Badfinger's entire catalog. I do take some issue comparing or suggesting anything Badfinger did to be akin to ELO, you can't go there just because of the heavier use of orchestration here. Better instead to compare the radical differences in this song to the oft repeated chord patterns and key changes incorporated into many of the previous Ham/Evans compositions not to say those weren't also brilliant and heartwarming songs. This song was a new benchmark for the band, sort of an anthem, or as one of you said, magnum opus.

Polly, Davids wife is an author. She writes most of his lyrics from his solo albums and even wrote almost all the lyrics on the Pink Floyd record The Division Bell. Love the song, its a breath of fresh air to hear the GOAT sing and play again. Already have my tickets to see him in MSG in November. I did think he was just getting into the solo when the song ended and would have liked to hear another minute of it. But i dont question the GOAT
