Yes, this is the original version, written by Pete Ham, who sings the verses, and Tom Evans, who sings the chorus. The most popular version is by Harry Nillson, but it was also recorded by Mariah Carey (unfortunately.)
It's actually two unfinished songs put together, Pete's verses were about his then girlfriend. The ad lib singing at the end is Tom.

Great '60s, and early '70s band with a bunch of recognizable hits, and a sizeable amount of tragedy. Excellent choice guys!! 💕 ....and yeah, may have choked up a little bit 🥲

Magnificent original version of this song!! Written by Ham & Evans. Almost a bluesy feel. You gotta love Badfinger!!

The organ REALLY adds to the feel of this song - along with Tommy's scream towards the end.

The remaster is very faithful to the 1970 vinyl LP.

Pete and Tom retro fit two incomplete songs together and created a smash hit song
That’s been recorded by nearly two hundred artists, only second to Yesterday, and Hey Jude.

It's a kind of bleak song, that they sung perfectly. Nilsson made it less bleak and made it a number one song in the UK. Pariah Carey murdered this.

This was a hit for Harry Nilsson and later Mariah Carey. Both of those were way more dramatic than this one.
I see there are still no reactions to a Japanese metalcore band currently touring the U.S. called Hanabie (pronounced ha-na-bee-ay). They combine metal with hip hop, EDM, punk, pop and sometimes traditional Japanese music. Their videos display their sense of humor. Try the song "We Love Sweets."

This is the way the song was meant to be done though, being it's the actual songwriters singing it.

the original is best. the band were ripped off so badly that two of them killed themselves. shocking!
