Wish you were here is Badfinger’s masterpiece. This album was giving the Abbey Road treatment, is the best of the best. Four songs not complete were tied together to make masterful and seamless Joint-single songs. In the meantime/Someother Time and the other, Meanwhile Back At The Ranch/Should I Some. Released in October 1974 the album was pulled from stores after 7 weeks, due to a Warner Bros. lawsuit due to the advance money was missing after manager Stan Polley cleaned out an escrow account. This album had number one stamped all over it. Not a bad song on this album at all. Chris Thomas did a superb job producing this album, as this could have had Grammy Award stamped on it. This was Badfinger at there utmost best. I give this album a 10 out of 10. First class from start to finish.

Although by this point they were on the Warner Brothers label. Drummer Mike Gibbins wrote & sung the first part - & also plays the piano part. Guitarist Joey Molland wrote & sung the second part. Most true Badfinger fans say this is their very best album - brilliant from start to finish!!
Ann Odell organized the orchestration part afterwards. Mike wanted to write a very progressive song - more progressive than what Badfinger did usually. Chris Thomas produced both this song & "Timeless".
Hey guys, Pete Ham was the heartbeat of Badfinger.. All there hits were wrote by him, he is a genius! Collectively they were or are a great band with bag loads of talent.. Check out "DENNIS" on same album..written by Pete Ham about his young son...since you asked..it was recorded at Elton John's Caribou studio in Colorado..Chris Thomas engineered it..He is well known in music industry and had done work at Apple,Abbey Road,etc
Nothing quite like this tune in Badfinger's entire catalog. I do take some issue comparing or suggesting anything Badfinger did to be akin to ELO, you can't go there just because of the heavier use of orchestration here. Better instead to compare the radical differences in this song to the oft repeated chord patterns and key changes incorporated into many of the previous Ham/Evans compositions not to say those weren't also brilliant and heartwarming songs. This song was a new benchmark for the band, sort of an anthem, or as one of you said, magnum opus.
