60s-Jimi Hendrix- Purple Haze(1967): it opens his first album and he affected every important guitarist from then on. Runner-up:Procul Harum-Whiter Shade of Pale. 70s-Deep Purple-Child in Time(1970): Protest, emotion, movement, dynamics, improvisation: captures the freedom of the 70s. Runner-up:Led Zeppelin-Stairway to Heaven. 80s- Rush-Tom Sawyer(1981): Probably not anyone's favourite but it's undeniably their best song, and thus, THE best song. Runner-up:Iron Maiden-Rime of the Ancient Mariner. 90s-Soundgarden-The Day I Tried to Live(1994): Dripping with the overall self-loathing, addiction and angst of that genre. Runner-up:Radiohead-Creep.
Stairway to Heaven has to be the quintessential 70’s song. That song and the album it came off changed everything. 80’s I wouldn’t give to a rock band, it’s got to go to Michael Jackson with Billie Jean (just pipping Beat it). Like Zeppelin the decade before, the album and song changed everything, particularly in relation to MTV

Whole lotta love is a fantastic choice. We were debating on choosing that one for the 60's.

Nice list. Our favorite on your list has to be Tom Sawyer. Even though Creep is your runner up it is a very underrated pick.
