How can European countries have sovereignty whilst within the eu? Also, the eu is not Europe and that is the European flag, not the eu flag. Macron is right about ditching murica but a hypocrite regarding how to deal with illegal immigrants as he has no problem shipping them off to the UK. That isn't any different to shipping them off to a non-European country.

This might be a ridiculous analysis, but here goes: French left is tiny, bc it has no popular issues it owns. The public services are run to a reasonable degree by neolibs, and while workers issues and retirement stuff should be theirs, their communication sucks. The major problem for left in France (and Europe generally) is that people *really hate immigration.* Even most ecenomically leftists do. And left politics has yet to come to terms with this fact.

Not Ireland it's the EU. Where the EU failed to stopped them travelling across EU borders to France and then to UK. If they cannot stop them coming into the UK, then why should we make efforts for them to return back into the EU area?

  • @peterperigoe9231

On the foundation of the Irish Free State, now Eire, the Irish government agreed to adopt UK immigration policy of the time, the UK's Black book of persona non gratia. This insured that their was no need for a patrolled border on the Island of Ireland, this was done at the sea ports in an era when air travel didn't exist. This evolved into the Common Travel Area (CTA) which gives the right of free movement between Island of Ireland the UK, the Isle of Mann and the channel Islands. All this pre dates the EEC let alone the EU. The Schengen area covers 29 EU countries that officially abolished border controls at their mutual borders. The UK gained an exemption from this as it was an Island nation with no mutual border. Ireland followed to protect the CTA. In my opinion the main driver for the current discontent is the high level of domestic homelessness (about 13K?) a domestic housing crisis together with high levels of adult children living with their parents out of necessity. SUNAK is wrong, the boat people are coming from France (an EU country) to the UK. They are (the 80% figure is disputed) coming from the UK to the Island of Ireland and then south. There are no boat people coming from France to Ireland. So the UK should take illegals back, It is the UK and France's problem to resolve the boats issue and not push the matter onto Ireland.

The underpinning issue of Ireland’s monumental housing crisis, which makes any other country in the world look like it’s swimming in housing units. That creates the anti-immigration doom-spiral, as people here chose to blame Migrants getting housing as preferential treatment. It’s much more difficult to hold a rally protesting Policy failure then “out of control migration”

Unless there are checks at Belfast airport and ferry terminals, which isn't going to happen, I don't understand how an open border between the UK and Ireland via Northern Ireland is going to stop this influx of migrants? There needs to be checks between the North and the Republic. United Ireland talk is secondary to stopping every Tom, Dick and Harry crossing from one country to the other.

Abkhazia and Osetia was a warning, just like those couple bombs dropped on outskirts of Tbilisi in the early morning of first strike in 2008. EU and NATO will help Georgia just like they helped Ukraine, to continue further slaughtering of the country in hopes of weakening Russia. Oh and by the way, guess where Saakashvili and his party continued their political career after they ran from Georgia in 2012? Yep, in Ukraine... And coincidently after that Ukraine lost Crimea, and then you all know what happened. And just before war started in Ukraine Saakashvili sneaked back into the country and made a huge drama out of it, as he always does. So uhm... I dunno, let's at least think this through maybe? We have to understand few things: Russia is not as weak as we were told under US/EU propaganda. They're strong, and they're evil. Countries like Georgia cannot stand against them, and we're not gonna let this country get overrun overnight by Russia because US's empirialistic ideas. Propaganda from all and any side needs to be controlled and contained, and that's what this law is trying to do. We need this law more than any other time right now, and EU has to deal with it, or they'll lose their influence entirely in this country, for whatever it's worth, and apparently it's worth something. So to my fellow Georgians, please, look past this thick layer of literal SHIT that we've been bombarded with from west and north, and think about your country, your people. All this inner conflict and hate won't bring us anywhere near where we want to be, it only makes us weak and benefits the enemy, which in this case is BOTH Russia and US. Not only there's no black and white, but there's also no "lesser evil". We're being used, and we're doing it to ourselves. Russia will rather bomb and destroy ENTIRE NATION before they allow us to enter NATO. Wake the fuck up.

the biggest problem, that also makes it more complicated and difficult, is wars and poverty.. can probably add equality, and/or jealousy (meaning jealousy, in the selfish and negative form, and not just as a normal feeling) but also how the countries population views it, and their own situation.. you can often hear the "unfair approach", that makes it a bit like you're doomed if you do, and doomed if you don't, like... "they come here and use our hospitality, and don't do right by themselves, to find jobs and work".. but when they do work, "they steel the jobs from the rest".. and that has grown over the years, so there's more resentment.. so it's the similarities but... "we can take care of others, but not our own".. and when they get things, better treatment, benefits and so on, that others don't, it often is directed towards those people who gets it, and not the ones that gives it.. I "learned" that it has something to do with human nature, and how that is and works, that might explain some of it..
