Yeah, I know there are a bunch of policies aimed at getting Italians to have more kids, but they rarely work sufficiently enough to avoid the need for immigration.

Economy isn't huge at all. A normal Italian doesn't earn more than 1400 euro after taxes. Rent is 750 euro, car petrol is at least 150 euro, groceries are 300 euro, bills are 250 euro. Where do you see the boom? This channel just throws lies

Employees and retired are starting stealing few euros values of food in order to be able to survive. As an American our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.
People believe their currency has the worth it does because they have no other option. Even in a hyperinflationary environment, individuals must continue to use their hyperinflationary currency since they likely have minimal access to other currencies or gold/silver coins.
Inflation is gradually going to become part of us and due to that fact any money you keep in cash or in a low-interest account declines in value each year. Investing is the only way to make your money grow and unless you have an exceptionally high income, investing is the only way most people will ever have enough money to retire.
I've tried investing in the stock market several times but always got discouraged by fluctuations of stock value. I would be happy if you could advise me based on how you went about yours, as I am ready to go the passive income path.!!

the improvement mentioned in the video is compared to European countries and Italy's previous years in the eurozone, there has been a change of pace, this doesn't mean we are fine, it's just a clear change that's all.
Heavily depends on what you do. European funds boosted all the energy and infrastructures sector and we're living in a bubble. Same with the building sector. I know many people who earn better now, but it's mostly engineers and other technical figures.

I came to Italy from the UK in 1970 and initially thought that next week everything was going to collapse. After a year I thought maybe next month it's going to collapse, After two years I realised that as a Brit I knew absolutely nothing about the very specific Italian "arte di arrangiarsi", which is not the mere ability "to make do" but truly "to think out of the box" and eventually to find a solution to any problem. A country that has basically no real raw materials except for Carrerra marble but still has a very constant positive balance of payments, i.e. exports higher than imports, and also manages to give most of its 60 million plus citizens a very decent standard of living, excellent health care, good social services, protective labour legislation and worker's rights, first class transport systems, good social services and a pretty acceptable general life style must be doing something right and after all these years I really have given up worrying about Italy's future.

Italians have a couple of good traits: they're adaptable (they're amongst the best integrated immigrants all around the world) and they perform really well during and right after a big crisis, cause the thing that matters the most to them is going back to the standard of living they had before (or improving it) that's why we did so well after WWII

The title is a bit clickbaity but I would say they're not really saying that you're doing well. Just that you're doing better than the rest of Europe right now. And I don't see how you could deny that if you look at Germany, the UK or Sweden.
Like the video points out, borrowing costs vary based on a variety of factors. It's less of an issue that Italy borrowed a lot in the 80s and more that that debt was very expensive. Nowadays, Italian debt is cheap(er) which makes borrowing a lot more sensible. Biggest issue in Italy are low salaries, IMO, and low purchasing power that comes with that.
The superbonus is one of the reasons Italy has been doing relatively well in the post-pandemic
i'm italian. It's not a boom. It's a really slow growth and the italians are not seeing the difference.
It's been fantastic since Apr.'23 when i finally started working. I am singlehandedly rising an italian's economy. Mine, to be precise.
Actually our debt to gdp now is 137%, it peaked at 156%. In 3 years we've reduced it by 19 points, actually in the same years the French one rose to 113%. If we continue on this path it's just a matter of years and the italian debt won't be a problem anymore, and yes it's more sustintable than the french one, excluding post covid years we've run budget surpluses since 1997.
I would also add that Italians are hard working despite the cliche saying they live "Dolce Vita", nice and relax life. I worked with some of them and their work ethic was the same as my fellow Dutch people.

It is better to live in a country in crisis that is among the G7 than to live in a country without a crisis but in 136th place in GDP.
The negative comments amazes me. Beyond statistics: the quality of life, for the majority of Italians, is much better than one offered to most English. Especially in the prosperous cities of the North. Recently, I have been touring Sicily (one of the poorest regions of Italy) and must say that I’d rather be a poor there than in the Northern England.

Puglia Molise Campania Calabria il costo dell'affitto scende anche a 200€ quasi tutti quelli che risultano "disoccupati" lavorano a nero e tra disoccupazione e altri ammortizzatori sociali tipo RDC arrivano a guadagnare spesso anche più di me che sono un dipendente statale. Questo posso dirlo con certezza perché sono passato anche io da quella situazione. Anche se chiaramente la certezza che ho adesso non l'avevo prima, quando lavoravo tantissimo e guadagnavo più o meno come ora ma dovevo sempre cercarmi il lavoro.

To call Italy an 'economic basket case' is totally ridiculous. Even with its considerable flaws, Italy remains a leading industrial and agricultural power. It has a very strong brand abroad ('made in Italy'). Public debt is high, but private debt is extremely low. It is the eighth economy and fifth most visited country in the world. I could go on.
That said, as an Italian, I am rather astonished to know that we are 'doing surprisingly well.' Industrial production has been declining for two consecutive quarters. We have ridiculous wages and the government is dismantling what little was left of welfare in favor of the private sector. They have also set out to partially privatize some particularly profitable public companies. NOTHING is being done against tax evasion, quite the contrary. The housing market is in free fall, partly because it is so expensive to borrow money. Unemployment has fallen, but also because many of the people who were looking for a job either went abroad or gave up looking for one in Italy altogether, dropping out of the count of "unemployed" (those looking for a job). As for the increase in GDP, it is almost exclusively due to the 'superbonus,' a strong economic stimulus (I would say Keynesian) measure that has just been sharply scaled back. Finally, the economic subsidy for the poorest has been almost totally abolished.

To all the Italians unable to stomach one piece of good information on our country …. This “boom” is obviously not like the 80’s, it simply means we have emerged from the pandemic in a much better position than other major economies. Are our people still suffering? Yes, we had over a decade of intense austerity forced upon us. But is our economy finally going in a somewhat good direction? Yes. Will it take time to finally start trickling to every corner of our country? Yes.

@@St0rrrm thought the same. Then again most of the reason for this unexpected growth has little do with those funds. Due to classic political holdups, and lack of labor, only 40% of the funds received so far have been used. Most of the funds used are also on projects or infrastructure that can take a year or two to manifest economic gains.

As an Italian, I'm really sick of my countrymen always complaining and not doing anything (like rioting in french style), ultimately leaving for places like Germany, France, UK or the Netherlands (thus shitting on the motherland in any absurd way). I believe the Italian situation is probably the Same as in Portugal who is also doing very well right now. The companies across the economy where very leveradged, unlike our northern peers the Italian banks and Portuguese banks, because of the issues of 10 years ago have been strenthening their balance sheets, hence why they grew less than their northern European peers. But now there is a gigantic amount of liquidity, in Portugal 40% of all deposits isnt being used to transform into Credit. Also the The EU covid funds, they help a lot, Italy was the biggest beneficiar followed by Spain(Portugal also got a lot and Spain is next door so better economy there benefits here).

I’d like to add 2 points to the discussion and explain why, in my opinion, Italy was and will be a resilient country: The first is that we traditionally are a nation of savers. This is part of our culture starting from our grandparents, then our parents, and now us today. This means that we have the ability to survive even in times of economic crisis. And the second reason, which is also connected to the first, is that very often we are financially supported by our parents (not everyone, I realize) such as for buying a house or simply doing the groceries.

Italy still has plenty of problems to solve but I am happy to see progress being made. Education is free but still not many people graduate from school because there are not many jobs in rural areas. Employers are reluctant to hire people due to tough labor laws
And because hiring people is expensive. For every Euro the worker receive, the owner owes one to the state in taxes.

Doctors paying 10% into a fund and vote for what research they need, or what kind of hardware they need in their city or region for communal use. A mini version of Japans semiconductor move where they forced all major players in the production chain to pay together for research, instead of seperately and against each other.

Itali’s average salary is lower than that of UK, France and Germany. This gives it a competitive edge, especially with lower energy cost (due to proximity to ME).
Another key thing to note is, it has gone through 20 odd years of painful restructuring. Although it is not clear how successful it was, it still was far better than those who did not go thru it. This is more apparent when you look at Greece who walked the same path and is also doing relatively better.
The austerity and wage cut is painful medicine, but ever increasing social benefit payment and salary increase is like a cancer that will cripple the entire economy like in UK, Germany.
In conclusion, Italy still has a long way to go to increase its productivity (technological advance) and structural reform. But it is in much better position than UK or Germany. Also much better weather too.
yep, and that's the market adjusting itself. eu and extra eu companies are investing in italy because of lower costs (swisscom bought vodafone italia for example). this will hopefully cause wages to readjust compared to the richer part of EU. if this become a trend, being that close to switzerland should help x)
