The stock tires on the 2022 Honda CRF450RL are not going to be adequate for the majority of the riding that I do, so what's the options? The simple route would be to just replace the tires with more aggressive knobbies, but this will cause my on-road riding (which I still seldomly do) to be a bit dangerous, and not to mention wear out whatever race tire I choose quite quickly. The other option is to build up a second set of wheels for my track and trail riding, and just switch to these when I know I'm going to be heading to one of these destinations. Unfortunately, the second option is REALLY expensive! This situation is the quintessential catch 22 with dual sports: either go with knobby tires that are good in the dirt and bad on the road, or stay with dual sport tires that are bad in the dirt and good on the road?
I decided to make the investment in going with the second set of dedicated track and trail tires, and amplified the costs even more so by wanting gold wheels to pursue that vintage mid-80's look along with my blue seat cover. Sometimes you just gotta throw the wallet at something and bite the bullet!
