I always fine use in saving pieces of round stock steel rod. Different sizes and lengths are great to have on have for knowing out bearings or other long reach jobs. As for old spokes. I always keep some on hand again, they are very useful for making tools or like picks for cleaning out snap ring grooves, or making hooks to hang things, and great filler rod for tig welding stainless steel. Lil tools are getting so expensive, this day n age we gotta use our heads when it comes to scrap steel. Steel is like gold, keep it for a rainy day.

Lil tip, if your new to wheel building. Turn to the bicycle industry for great how to books. The techniques are the same, just pretend your building the ultimate DH wheel set. First tip. 5 is the magic number when tightening spokes. Start at #1, skip 4 , tighten the next #5

Ok couple things before you even go farther. You have safety glasses on your head, not your eyes? Why? Very bad example to be using a screwdriver to pry out things and an accident could blind you instantly, ask Tony D if he would like to do over that day he lost his eye. Next if you’re throwing away all the hardware, an impact is faster, smarter, and safer most times. Next rent a little tiny empty warehouse space and get outta your garage or whatever that is...
