  • I've reviewed a number of FPV wings now and this is perhaps the easiest to fly and quickest to build of all those I've seen. Also check out the discount code (below).
    Pros:
    - quick "no glue" assembly for the PNF version
    - suits a wide range of HD recording cameras
    - balances without the need for extra nose-weight
    - predictable, docile flight characteristics
    - good quality foam (warped wing notwithstanding)
    Cons:
    - wing was warped (but not too bad)
    - black foam is crap in hot summer weather
    - could do with more power if you want to race
    Summary:
    A good option for either the first-time wing-flier or someone looking for a nice stable wing for FPV use that takes just minutes to assemble. I like it.

    I've set a launch mode on my wing using a spare switch on my Taranis that invokes a throttle-elevator mix when the throttle is above 50%. That totally avoids that dip towards ground on launch. I used this for all my hand launches which has improved my launch success from about 60% to 100%. No more fear of hand launches.

    Funny and ironic you mention the weather in this video. I just landed in Auckland on a stopover and it is cloudy, maybe even rainy. As we were on the taxi roll to the gate I was thinking about you and commented to myself about when does he ever get a good day to fly. I have only been through here maybe a half dozen times and I do not recall any day with the sun shining. LOL Well with this review done I have more time to kill here in the Air New Zealand lounge so back to the bench, I mean the snacks and more videos!

    Thanks Bruce I ordered this bad boy. The esc that came with it sucked but I replaced the motor with the one from my me-163 and its motor. What a beast. Definitely worth the change. Prior it was a bit sluggish but now I cruise at 1/3 throttle and get a long flight time out of it. Now if I could get the crossfire to work with the qx7.

    I'm in love with this little wing. I put the matek f411 wing with inav I don't use the stability modes but I love the insurance of return to home. it's got a lot of room in the fuselage to do all kinds of things. I bet you can turn it into a stealth bomber and put Bond drop doors underneath you can do it Bruce lol great videos always

    I wish wings weren't so damn loud...makes it hard to fly in a lot of public areas without drawing attention or annoying people. Would be nice if a company came out with a 'stealth' wing or something - a wing that turns a big ole' prop much more slowly; or maybe an elevated nacelle. I don't need something that screams 100mph, and I think most people don't as well, just something sufficient for some exploration.

      Time to start making your own! I made one recently with the intention of keeping the prop away from the trailing edge. It worked ok but its too big. Back to the drawing board! Try it out though, it is fun making your own wing. Even better when you land it in one piece!

      Howdy, on this wing use a sunny sky x2216 1250kv with a 8x6 prop and a 40A esc for +90mph speeds and very, very little noise. Hope that helps, Matt

      @WarblesOnALot Před 6 lety +6

      G'day,
      This is my second attempt to answer this, if the earlier one shows up ; then blame YT.
      Anything with a Pusher Propeller is stuck with the Propeller Blades having to chop through the Wing's Boundary-Layer Turbulence and Downdraft, crossing from Low Pressure Zone to High Pressure Zone to Low, to High, ad infinitum ad nauseum.
      The Frequency of the Tone is set by the number of Blades & RPM...(RPM times 2 for two-bladed, times 4 for four-bladed, and times 6 for three-bladers...).
      Increasing a Pusher Prop's diameter to reduce it's RPM simply lets it chop into a wider slice of turbulent Downwash, so that lowers the tone of the Buzz-Saw Drone ; and maybe slightly increases the Sound-Pressure (loudness).
      Basically, to muffle the Propeller-Noise of a Flying Wing....; first move the Propeller to the Nose, then buy a Tractor Propeller for it.
      Otherwise, like Harley-Davidson Riders and Drivers of V-8 Cars, the "Trick" appears to train oneself to "get off on the sound of all that Power...) ; because the measures involved in making the bloody things shut up amount to building something-else entirely...
      Hopefully this Carrier Pigeon makes it...
      ;-p
      Ciao !

      Like Matt from #RTNO I put a long shaft dys 2822/1450kv on 7x4 and the sound difference is night and day. You just have to give the prop clearance from the hull is the biggest thing.

    Nice demo. I've seen someone fly this wing recently, and I can confirm it handles great at low speeds too. Very stable and can also take a beating. Maybe Sonicmodel can update it with plug in wings, like on the Dart 635mm. If such a system had been fitted, my flying buddy would probably have ordered this one, instead of the 600mm version, which seems quite a bit faster. And might be a bit too much for LoS flying, since it's also smaller.

    I know pusher wings are noisy (I have 3 of them) but wow that thing howls! Due to the thick wing trailing edge (cut off square) straight in front of the prop, I would guess.

    • @RCModelReviews
      @RCModelReviews  Před 6 lety +4

      Yes, the noise is caused by the prop intersecting the turbulent flow off the back of the wing. Interestingly enough, this is also how sirens work (that explains a lot eh?).

    well i think that that is not for fist-time wing-filer because it cost a lot and need some speed. Any way i started with Z-84 and that had similar issues. need lot of speed or its go spin of death :D well now i have three Spirit 600mm, cheap as.... and doesn't need lot of speed to be controlled. Just add tape on wings so it can handle crashes.

    I like that model and your video. You mentioned you would change the motor ... how about putting a foldable prop on ... I would also program a break for the ESC.

    • @RCModelReviews
      @RCModelReviews  Před 6 lety +1

      I'd only bother with a folding prop if I was trying to get maximum endurance out of it... otherwise, simpler is better (IMHO).
      The brake is usually programmed by way of using the throttle stick and listening for the appropriate sequence of beeps. Although it varies from ESC to ESC, the sequence for brake activation is pretty common across many different brands and models. I'll see if I can set it on this one and report back.

    No a big fan of quality models having wing warps out of the box...i wonder if this is a common issue with these? Pretty easy to fix when carbon is not already gluded in wing..still can be fixed...my first sonic nano sky hunter came with one of the wings much thicker..i spent a couple hours block sanding it to match as best i could..seems to fly well...

    I've always wondered how you can tell exactly how much stress these can take, and about the servos and what would be pushing them a bit too hard. I really would love to throw one of my big 2407 2500kv motors on this and upgrade the esc to take 4s-6s. If the body can handle it, how could I tell if 9g servos would be able to take the extra power?
