    Thanks for the video. It is worth mentioning to many people who decide they want to change out the cargo lights to LED, it will or might cause interference with your key fob to act up especially when the cargo light is triggered. I purchased the same ones he mentioned and although they are nice and bright, my key fob was acting up. Doing a little research online on the 5th gen Ram forums it seems many of the folks who also purchased cheap LEDs off Amazon for the cargo lights have the same issues with the key fob, especially when you hit unlock and the cargo lights turn on. When they go back off the key fob works fine. Having said that, most suggest getting better quality LEDs for the cargo such as Diode Dynamics (made in USA if you google them) or some other brand. Just thought I would come back to this video to let you Ram folks know having gone through the trouble of finding out the hard way. Either way, i will still pursue the LED swap to get rid of the nasty halogens and will also attempt to tap into this for the LED strip light project for the truck bed. Definitely a project now. Also worth noting that for my 2021 Laramie the cable routing seems a bit different than the dude in the video, not sure what year his truck is but the good thing is, it's still that same white wire with the tan on it. Good luck folks!

    This is great. Did it on my 2014 and works great. thanks. I do need to get the LED for the cargo cab light since there isn't enough amp to run the led and the regular 921 bulbs.

    Thank you again for the detail in this video. I ordered the same kit and installed it over Memorial Day weekend. It looks fantastic! Was great in your video, but it is even better in person. One of the best mods I've ever done in any of my vehicles for sure. Instead of wiring mine to the cargo light, I ran it to a add-a-fuse in the fusebox, and then mounted the button switch near the tailgate with some 3M tape.
    Current for lights: Bed lights installed. Reverse lights, cargo lights, 3rd brake light, and fogs all replaced with LED. Headlights replaced with Innovited HID kit and CANBUS harness.
    Next up: High beam LEDs (need to do some Dremel work to get those to fit since they all have heat sink - have you considered it?), and going to mount a 42" 240W light bar on the front bumper. We go to Utah often, and at night there are deer and elk everywhere on those mountain roads and trails.

      BoostedMotorsports Thanks for looking out, I might go ahead and give it a try. Right now I'm waiting for my carven 5in tips to come in this Friday and I'll also be ordering some new brake light sets and there going to be smoked lens color. But I'm really stoked about seeing your charger install hopefully I'll be able to afford one some day as well lol. Btw, I wanted to get your opinion, I was thinking about painting my chrome bumper and wheel skirts black chrome colored since my truck is gargoyle colored thought it look cool having black chrome mixed with the truck color. Let me know what you think 😁

    • @BoostedMotorsports
      @BoostedMotorsports  Před 6 lety

      Yeah definitely! I'm not a huge fan of the massive chrome bumpers. I had them on my 2009 SLT and wasn't a fan. Painting chrome is a bit tricky cause its hard to get paint to not chip or peel without doing a lot of prep work. I would look into getting them wrapped with vinyl or even plasti-dip so that you can remove it if you ever change your mind or sell your truck 👍

    I like the way is hiding the lights from eyes, I did the same way mine and it does only illuminate the cargo area not the eyes ( Good job there), but I would run it from battery with fuse of course (home run) and with dedicated switch on the bed that way I wouldn’t need to go to the inside cabin to turn on/off lights on bed. Also I would be able to turn those lights whenever I want without having to turn on the other lights or the truck ignition key on. Just my opinion.

    Did you poke through the parking brake grommet do you have the wire running through the same hole as the brake cable? A can foresee an issue with wire chafing and a short unless you were able to also get the wire loom through the hole also.
    Aside from that, good install video. I plan on doing something similar to my 08 MegaCab

It sounds funny at times but I don't mind saving some gas at the pump if it means I get to spend more on modding the truck! It's really a personal preference on whether it bothers you or not. On the 8speeds you can just click it down into manual shift mode when you jump in the truck and it won't turn on. 👍

      Yes sir! I just snipped it off the harness located at the back of the truck and moved it to the front of the circuit before sending the power to the back of the truck.

    Hello,
    Thanks for this video!
    I followed your tutorial to install a led strip in the bucket of my 2014 RAM 1500. Problem: when I press the switch, the lights (the original one at the third brake light and the led strip) s 'come on for one second then go off even if the indicator light on the instrument panel remains on.
    Can you tell me how to solve this problem?
    In advance, thank you for your answer!

    Pretty awesome man, love the video, good step by step. I want to do the same thing to my 01 Silverado, but I want blue LEDs to match my interior lights. Could I do it with just regular led light strips?

    was browsing through your links and have a comment that may save some people a lot of money. Due to my profession i repaired it fairly cheap but.......INNOVITED HID KITS use great ballasts and bulbs seemed good also, HOWEVER DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE for adding HIDs to the loaded rams with the CANBUS systems. ESPECIALLY do no use INNOVITED CANBUS system. the standard kit will leave you with a uneraseable bulb out on your EVIC display. The CANBUS version will infact FRY your exterior BCM #2. *I used their relay kit and capacitor/cancelers the first time, then kept the harness and replaced with CANBUS resulting in module fairlure. However if you buy ONLY the INNOVITED HID KIT and buy a MORIMOTO STANDALONE CANBUS ADAPTER ($25) all you have to due is plug it inline with you factory headlight connector and that is it BY FAR the most simple and fully functioning HID kit for Projector low beams on my2013 RAM 1500 SPORT 5.7L with ( Turn signals illuminate )not the headlights for running lights. Did not have good luck with morimoto ballasts. so grab the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. HIDs made stupid simple!
    Thanks for the video and saving me time for chasing that wire!...my track is full up with AUDIO power and LC2i Power wiring.

    Just out of curiosity, the wiring process could be used with putting led light strips in the cab, right? I want to do so they come on when I open the doors and unlock the truck.

      @BoostedMotorsports  Před 6 lety

      Johnbrum26 yeah half the work is done for you on your truck John! Should be able to do that no problem. Worst case scenario you may have to run a relay if the computer shuts down the circuit from too much load but you won't have to mess with any of the wiring inside like I did 👍

  • @ChrisKelly27

    I have a question, the cargo light you tied into for power has an auto shut off(if i'm correct) even if you activate it with your key fob it will shut off after a min or so. If you want full control of the lights in the bed you would have to find a 12v source that's always on correct? I do construction and I want to be able to leave these lights on for awhile so i can find tools or load my truck in the dark.

    Great video. Have a question: One end of the fuse cable comes from the tracer wire, Where did you hook the other end of the cable to? I have that green connector in the same place as you. Thank you.

    • @BoostedMotorsports
      @BoostedMotorsports  Před 5 lety

      Hey Jose! The one wire with the fuse gets hooked up to the power wire for your light. The other wire just needs to go to ground so anywhere on the chassis mounted to steel will work. I ended up running it to the ground point on the drivers side near the rear wheel instead of running both wires all the way to the front 👍

    Hey John need some guidance. When you attached the fuse red wire inside the drivers door one end appears to be connected to the line you tapped into the white with tan tracer. However the video doesn’t show what you did with the other end bar the fuse. Did that end get attached to that green connector block?

    • @BoostedMotorsports
      @BoostedMotorsports  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Robert! There is 2 wires coming from the LED light kit. For the fuse portion one end goes to that wire in the factory harness and the other side gets attached to the + red wire coming from the LED lights. The other wire from the LED kit (black - negative) just gets connected to a good ground somewhere on the chassis. 👍

      @@RSLWoodworking relays are better for keeping sensetive circuits separate, however I've noticed in my 2021 RAM, that i had to add a capacitor to the relay because of chatter.

    Kinda confused on the fuse, you do the wire tap and the fuse connects to wire tap then to battery or to the back? And you just ground the led strips to the chassis and connect the positive to the fuse or wiretap?

      Is your ram 5th gen?.. (2019+)... If so, make sure you don't replace the third brake light bulb with LED. Also, you probably have too much of a load on that circuit.
