    In this video we show the complete install procedure of short headers on a Dodge RAM 1500 pickup truck.
    This procedure is a fairly long task but can be accomplished with simple hand tools and some patience. The manifolds are a bit tricky to get wrenches and fasteners on but this video shows the process how to complete the job if you DIY

      So what gaskets are recommended? I can remember well over 25 years ago my auto tech instructor doubling up his header gaskets to keep them from leaking since the base gasket could and will basically burn up. I don’t remember the brand but I want to say Fel-Pro. Anyone have any ideas about doubling up on gaskets?

    Great Video..just installed my JBAs, had one broken stud passenger side at the rear. Unfortunately, had to drill it then use an easy out. Oh, had to scrounge up an angle drill. I was able to install without removing the dipstick tube. (4x4) could have or should have removed the starter, that would have made it a little easier. Started it up had a massive leak at collectors (tried to cut corners didnt use the copper sealant) well, unbolting after it cooled, used the copper, waited an hour, then torqued both sides. Tightened all manifold bolts again then started.. no leaks. Let sit overnight and started up this morning, again no leaks. Will tighten one more time then install lockers and fender liners. What a Job
    If you are going to install these headers on your Dodge, make sure you watch and follow the video...saves a lot of headaches.

    I've always been told it's not a good idea to wrap headers on a daily driven vehicle due to having many more heat cycles, and obviously driven in the rain way more than a non daily driven vehicle. Also one other thing. When disconnecting your steering wheel from the R&P or steering box. Make sure no one spins the wheel around while its disconnected or it'll ruin the clock spring.

    • @XxFirePizzaxX

      DONT get these JBA shorties. Go with the JBA 6962S or something that you can easily access the bolts. It has been a year since I did this and now my headers are leaking at the rear of the manifold. I WISH I saved the money spent on these and did it the proper way.
      If you are curious go watch this channel ( Reignited - Cycle and Automotive ) He is an actual Chrysler tech and knows what he is talking about.
      My experience was not bad installing. The problem is there is no space to tighten and torque the bolts, after running engine and letting cool you have to tighten again. (which is next too impossible). The headers WILL warp especially here in Canada and bolts need replaced every 100000km ish. It is always the back manifold bolt that snaps BIG design flaw of the Eagle Hemi.
      The power difference when adding long or mid length tubes is dramatically better than these weak shorties. It will also be easier to work on and well worth the money. Either go back to stock or upgrade to Long tube headers. Why do you think he never showed us the final result??? DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY DOING THIS.

  • @bronzeage_222

    I just received mine and have not installed them yet. I have a concern that the collector is actually smaller than the original by about 3/4 of an inch.
    Two concerns with that, one is the obvious air throughput , even if we have separate pipe for each cylinder , they are going all into a smaller collector.
    The larger concern is the kind of seal this collector will make with the original exhaust. The weld on the Header is very bad and amateurish, its not very smooth, which concerns me even more about the seal it will deliver with the exhaust. I have the copper sealant, but the tube says it will only seal to a max of 1/4 inches. Anyone run into any issues with the above ?
    *mine is the 4x4 2012 1500 Ram - that oil dipstick tube was a pain in the A$$

  • @theprototype301
    @theprototype301 Před 6 lety +2

    That looked like a real pain. But soooo nice to have installed versus those clunky stock manifolds. Took a lot of patience and audio edits I'll bet. :-). Combining these with true dual pipes (see Rich's Performance Exhaust) and your cold air intake, would make everything breath so much better. I wondered if buying ceramic coated headers would provide some of the same heat containment you get from the wrap. I went that way with a set on my 06 Mustang. More expensive initially but maybe another option to avoid some of the wrap challenges. Really appreciate the videos. Just purchased a silver 2014 Big Horn (only 16K miles) so I am eating these up.

    So a 2 year question.... Are the exhaust bolts still holding up. Meaning are you experiencing breakage like the studs ?

    I bought the powergo Motorsport shortys and they are the exact same as the jbas. Did you have a problem on the drivers side where that one tube is up against the valve cover? The one tube on mine is right on the edge of the valve cover near the back

    Man it's so funny I found this channel. Before watching your videos I started on doing the typical bolt ons - intake, exhaust, headers (after warranty), DS T2, tune, catch can, honeycomb grille, and hellcat wheels. Then I found this channel and was like "holy shit that's sick." Subbed for sure - keep it up!

    Definitely important to get the locking fasteners. I had mine installed with the fasteners that came with my shorty headers and they kept backing out, then blowing the gaskets.

    Question: Has anyone ported out stock headers? I was about some some shorty headers but both BBK and JBL have bad reviews and turned me down. So has anyone ported the stock ones and see any results? I plan to just replace the bolts since I have a leak on driver side

    Another great video thanks! Did you think about using ht paint of the outside to prevent rust out? I want this mod but not if they are going to be rushed and ruined in a few years so something if that would help. Thanks in advance and looking forward to more ideas for my 2012 Laramie!

    • @BoostedMotorsports
      @BoostedMotorsports  Před 6 lety

      Thanks Aaron! These are actually stainless steel headers so there won't be any rusting issues! You could hit them with some paint but it usually can't take the heat. Duplicolor makes some new high temp header stuff you could give a try though!

    How are those headers holding up with the rap I'm thinking about doing it with mine, but I have seen where the exhaust manifold are bigger orifice then the Shorties... I also have seen two different sizes. looks like, inch and 5/8 an inch and 7/8. How big are your shorties and did it give you horsepower gain? I'm thinking about going long tube but it is so much money. I really like everything you done to your truck I got a 2012. That video of you getting 32 miles to the gallon going uphill is awesome.
    I have looked into the rap around the headers thing, and it is pretty amazing with without and just manifold covers it's crazy in the different temperatures.
