Great stuff, Guy! What experience you've had over the years! I was looking you up because I've been listening again to Peter Cetera's "One More Story" album. I've always love the bass and guitar parts on "You Never Listen to Me" - it includes David Gilmour, Dann Huff (my all-time favourite guitarist)...and you. The bass bit, especially at the end, is amazing. So, now that I know who you are...and how much I've enjoyed listening to your bass talents all these years (without knowing who it was)...I've got you on my list: Pino Palladino, Tony Levin...and Guy Pratt!

G'day Guy, I cannot thank you enough for this, and I know I'm coming to it very late. I have loved You're Amazing since first getting the Don't Explain CD back in 1990. It remains one of my favourite RP songs, what can i say, some songs just get under your skin. Watching you play the bass to it just brought a massive smile to my face. Thanks mate.

HA HA! Great sock story. I was at a public gym change room about 5 years ago (I was 53) and making small talk with a fellow middle 50's man (too, with a gut) and while changing into my "just out of the dryer" gym pants one of my daughters thongs inadvertently fell out of my pant leg and onto the floor between us.... needles to say, we never spoke of that moment again.... Now, over to you Guy!

Hi Guy, I would be interested to hear what you think of Bruce Thomas’ bass work on the two Elvis Costello’s albums, This Years Model and Armed Forces. I think both are fantastic albums and all the instrumental work is brilliant but for me the bass playing really lifts every track. Elements of Paul McCartney in his playing. I love what you do for us here, keep up the great work. I love it when you acknowledge your slight mistakes here and there. It’s not as easy as people might think playing along to records!.I’m a guitarist but I dabble with bass, mainly for my home recording. My attitude when I first started recording a few years ago was, right, I’ll get the drums (Roland V-Drums) and bass out of the way, then I can start building the song. Now, after watching you and a hand-full of others and taking more interest in the bass I find myself really trying to build the song properly (as best I can) with a more thoughtful bass line. I don’t think a minority of people really appreciate what ‘Guys’ like you bring us, free of charge and be so accessible. The thought of me having direct communication with Guy Pratt 30 years ago would have been ridiculous! Keep up the great work, really appreciated.

Hi Guy. It’s been a while since I’ve paid you out in limericks, but I couldn’t resist after hearing the sock story in your prattle. Here goes:
We all know, as we watch Lockdown Licks
    Guy’s wardrobe doesn’t have a great mix
    But such is the case
    He’s here to play bass
He’s not here to try and pull chicks

And it’s clear that Guy’s not a big fan
Of shopping for clothes in Milan
    (A friend once insisted
    That Guy’s so tight-fisted
He buys all his clothes second-hand)
In a Milan haberdashery his brief
Was, “Socks or a nice handkerchief”
But the snot rags were dear
    So Guy said, “Never fear,
I’ll have the socks with the penguin motif.”
Then came one of Guy’s biggest shocks
When he saw on the floor one of his socks
    As the band did rehearse
    But it could’ve been worse
It could’ve been a pair of his jocks!
Guy at first thought Alan Mansfield did share
His bizarre taste in penguin sockwear
    But Alan said, “No Guy,
    It belongs not to I,
The other sock’s up your trouser leg somewhere!”

Enjoyed that mate. Been watching your picking hand (no I'm not a perv lol) and notice you keep your thunb anchored on the pick up a lot when picking all four strings. I''m a bit of a novice, only started playing at 44 after a road accident which took me 7 years to recover from. well, to the best I am anyway. l was taught to drop down a string (or two) on the higher stuff but don't feel comfortable doing that. Teacher was a superior being anyway (apparently). Older now (much sadly) but play for pleasure. There is a question coming lol. Do what I feel comfortable with(anchor on the pick-up) or try and follow the prick of a superior talented (or so he says) teach? Andy Tagg

Lovely stuff! Can't you just play 'Young Lust' as one of your LDL anyhow, please? I know you only play your own basslines (and fair enough) but that way you can get that ace fill in and all will be well with the world again. Hmmm come to think of it you did use it on Pulse's 'Learning to Fly', so please disregard all of the above. I actually nicked the same lick once for one of my own band's songs but don't tell Davy G. xx
