Things only fall out of basses when the person shaking has the chops, the creativity and the freedom to ride the moment. It's a stunning bass line in every respect, and I'm green that you wrote it and I didn't. Thank you for doing this - again!
Every one of these I bookmark as Tuition --> Bass. But they could just as well be saved under Comedy, History, or Entertainment. Excellent body of work Guy and great story-telling too. Many thanks. ['67 Fender Jazz].
Guy, I've been a guitar player for 16 years. You've really inspired me in these recent videos to pick up the bass. I bought a bass, signed up for lessons, and am well on my way. I want to thank you!
Thanks again Guy. Honestly getting stories about how you got your guitars and what you’ve used them on is every bit as fun and interesting as watching you demonstrate the licks
"I'm so dull"?? Not. Even. Close. Great music, with the stories and instruction to make it killer. Thanks for doing this Guy, and I hope these continue long after your isolation has ended. So worthwhile.
My dad had a tape sent by a buddy - just an evening recording from KROQ out of LA. Kiss and Tell was on there. My dad liked the song. I loved it. As a 6 or 7 year old, I pretty much wore the tape out constantly rewinding it. 7 or so years later, I borrowed a buddy’s bass for a night and figured it out. It kinda felt like, “yep, I just conquered bass…” Another 5 years later and I was downloading this off Napster from my college dorm room. Well, just turned 41 the other day and played this song probably 5 times back to back today. It eventually brought me here. I think it is one of the sexiest songs ever recorded. The bass line is out of this world. The guitar work, both rhythm and lead, the horns…. It’s just a ridiculously good song. My favorite of Bryan Ferry’s for sure. And he was totally right about what he said: it absolutely stands the test of time. One other thing, and I hate to call this out, but I get really OCD about music sometimes. You 100% DO have a fill in this song! It’s around 4 minute 12 second mark. It’s only three notes, but just like everything else about this song and its bass line, it’s as classy as it comes.
Glad you are back. You and Leland Sklar are highlights of my day. Got a week off work I was meant to be spending with boyfriend. But as he is in a different house 90 miles away.... hey ho. A bit of Ferry music to cheer me up, thanks
Love the power of your performance on Kiss & Tell. Just finished reading your book- what a journey. “The door, she is closing...” not! You have to write a part 2 to pick up where you left off. It’s also super having CZcams because as one reads the book you can dip in and out our compendium of amazing work. What a pro. You’ve put a lift in my lockdown. Hope you get a g-up with the feedback! Cheers, Simon
Guy, I could listen to you talk and tell stories as long as you felt like. YOU ARE NEVER DULL. And I love that your page is a safe space devoid of political opinion and such. I wish all musicians, actors and industry types had your attitude. The ones that get political for this side or against the other side, they don't realize they are completely alienating tens of thousands to millions of their fan base Abhi believe the opposite which ultimately causes damage to their career. Leave it to the politicians to be so vocal. That's my philosophy. Much love and respect to you. Glad you're safe, healthy, happy and creating these masterful videos.
I love every moment of your videos Guy. I love the background stories and of course the playing. Despite being a guitarist and a David Gilmour obsessed one at that, I often forget to listen to anything but the bass when you're playing.
Great as always. You cheer everyone up I’m sure and love the little anecdotes from your experiences with people you’ve worked with down the yrs. cheers
Mr. Pratt thank you for your time to do these videos. I remember the story a little liquid courage planted the seed and Mr. Gilmour bestowed you that beauty!! Cheers mate keep keeping on fight the good fight!!
I do love these videos Guy, super entertaining. I've also realised that you were a big influence on my own bass playing without even knowing it when I was starting out in the late 80's and early 90's. Real pleasure watching you play them now. Cheers for sharing!
Man, I know how you feel...and it grinds on our hearts and spirit. How could it not? Thanks for doing these. I'm getting a lot out of the lessons and your stories. Implied notes come in handy, come in handy. 😬Cheerz
Ah, so good Guy. Thanks for doing these videos. I equally enjoy listening to your playing and your waffling :-D Amazing playing, always and great stories, interesting, revealing, funny, informative - making my day All the best to you !
Guy you really are a legend fella, loving everything you do on these really funny and great licks love it keep them coming pal, oh I've just ordered your book to get lots more fun. Cheers Guy.
Thank you so much Guy. It's great to hear you play the licks I've always admired. Took my bass off the wall and played with that Bryan Ferry song just now. Amazing how this lifts your spirit! Keep on doin' it! So many bass-players covering songs here on CZcams, but you seldom see the REAL artist playing his own stuff. Far out!! Also great to hear you talk about 'Let's Stick Together'. I remember me playing that song in my head when cycling to school back in '76.. That bassline was the most musically inspiring thing I ever heard!
As a bass player, I’d say the main thing me and Guy Pratt has in common is wearing a proper watch on the left wrist and a FitBit on the right.
Love the kiss and tell bass line . About as sexy as a bass line can get😉

This is one of my favourite ever bass-lines, and I had completely forgotten it was by the phenomenal Mr Pratt. Wow.
Don't miss much about lockdown however I miss these videos. Thanks a mill Guy
Me too!
So glad you did Kiss and Tell, one of my favourite bass lines ever.
"Which was nice" - nice Fast Show reference slipped in there :-)
It's that sexy bassline that makes Kiss & Tell so great.
Guy played the Steinberger bass on Stay close tonight (live) by Icehouse!
lovely song, a classic!

I disagree, as I think everything is art and everything is politics, but I leave that hat at the door here...Stay safe..
