my uncle use to take me joy riding back in the day in his Ford Custom... when he passed in 85 my dad drove it for a month or two until it was permanently parked for the next 15 years until it was sold . my uncle had it very nice and slick, took care of it as if it was his baby... RIP Tio Cosme
Not sure why this popped up in my CZcams feed, but I'm glad it did. The first family car I can remember as a kid was a '66 Galaxie (or possibly Custom,, my memory is fuzzy there) 500, with a 240 six and three on the tree. Ours was a Wimbledon White two-door hardtop with the sort of semi-fastback roofline and that exact same medium blue interior. No power steering, air conditioning or any other fancy stuff to go wrong. My dad still says it was the most reliable car he ever had, and speaks of it fondly to this day. No idea how many of those they made, but couldn't have been terribly common. I know I've never seen another like it. Anyhow, cool car. I look forward to watching more videos about it.
Thank you for the comment! Thats very cool! Ive been to multiple car shows and havent seen another “ford custom”. Their are quite a few Galaxies at the shows. Thnx for the note
Your dad's car was so reliable is because it had that six cylinder those things last forever I'll tell you a story about my dad 66 I was maybe two years old and I was climbing up on top of the motor when my dad was like giving it a tune-up? And I thought I would help him and stick a nut inside the hole where the spark plug went never said a word about it to my dad well nevertheless my dad had to rebuild that engine put a sleeve in that piston he never knew what went wrong and I didn't think about it for probably 20 years and it popped into my mind what happened it came back to me all them years later that I did that and I told him I did that I don't know what I was doing I was just a little boy you know but that car never ran really great after that he did put a four barrel on it after that new intake and a four-barrel but it just wasn't the best after that but it had a good power with that four barrel you Trump on it you'd hear it 4- barrels open up and off you'd go ⛽
@@81CamaroZ28 one more thing I forgot to mention you should run premium in it with the lead substitute? If it doesn't have hardened valve seats? You should run lead substitute! but if it does still run premium unleaded because the car's supposed to run on 91 octane rating fuel which was regular back in 66.So you need to run premium in them today.
Yes my father bought a brand new one of those Galaxy 500 two-door with the 390 2 barrel engine in it automatic it had the big hubcaps with the red center in it air condition power steering power brakes but it was the same color of light blue with the same color interior just a little fancier because it was a Galaxy 500 wasn't the XL just the Galaxy 500 but we have that car all the way up till 73 when it finally croaked and my mom got another car lot of memories in that car going up to the mountains and Southern California where we're from.
Do you have any pictures of the brake pedal assembly? I am coverting a 1974 galaxie to a 3 speed manual, and need some input on how to route the clutch quadrant.
Absolutely love this car, along with the blue color. This is what color I’ll paint mine, I will have the roof painted white to give the illusion it’s a vinyl roof but won’t have to deal with putting compound on the vinyl so it won’t dry up. Good news is there’s a ‘66 Ford Galaxie 500 4 door hardtop that’s waiting for me and possibly might pick up this summer but will have to see. Needs some work but will be a work of art when it’s done, simply tired of modern vehicles with no personality or character.

The most stripped-down version available, but someone ordered it with the clock? I've seen loaded versions with every option but the clock...

For me that is the most desirable car I have seen on CZcams.
Thank you
For all the two door big block collectors this would be rarer to find today. She's a beauty.

240 Six, related to the much-beloved 300 Six truck engine!
WRONG it's NOT a 240 6 it's a 300 4.9 6 !
I'm WRONG, YOUR RIGHT it's a 240 , 6
Man! How many bodies could you fit in that trunk?
Burnout? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That’s what I’m saying! Pretty weak if you ask me!
revving the engine does no good for the car. drive it easy and it will last for yrs
Had to try it once! This was the first time ive done this in 3 months since ive owned the car
