Excellent review norm. Thankyou. I would have preferred more discussion on from the privacy side. Meta lisfening in etc. And the laws about even using these in public and with kids etc. And who is writing the ai script and how do we know the info we're fed is even accurate or a hallucination or some agenda. The problem is meta has a nefarious history and track record then and now of abusing customer data and selling our privacy. I worry that if they're behind this awesome tech those if us who opt out as with the net will still be monitored and sold by the minions of meta who opt in....

I also love the form factor of speakers and micophones in the glasses. Its like having it in my head, love it.
As someone that lives in SEA, i wonder how will the contact points for charging will fare against the constant sweat and humility of the tropics, if the prescriptions lenses gets dirty, can we use water and lil detergent to clean the lens without shortcircuiting it?
The inability to control the shutter speed for the reasons you mentioned is a huge downside, along with the lack of horizontal video. Hopefully the next iteration will offer these options.
How did you get prescription lenses on to it? Just go to an optician and have them swap the clear lenses for prescription ones?
Can they use electrically activated nano filters within an also electroflexible lense, filter out different wavelengths of light for sunglasses and the color impaired? Can one of these specs be designed and manufactured cheaply?

So, when I think of "smart glasses" I think of lenses that can display stuff to me, not just another set of cameras/mics/speakers. This feels like more "influencer" crap that isn't going to be useful for most people. A pair of bone conduction headphones fills 99% of the same functionality for me.
Agreed....altho i found them looking for like spy glasses or more comfortable or practical go pro...the go pro cumbersome and seems these are better for most features....bit expensive

Thank you for talking about the battery lifetime! The lack of full day usage is a show stopper for me.
I have these and battery is rarely a problem. There is an easy to access switch to flip them on when you want audio,, video or ai and they power up and pair very quickly. When powered off they function just like normal sunglasses still
Actually, I somewhat agree if you plan on using these as your primary glasses. But for me, I just use them as sunglasses, and I haven't run out of battery yet.
Battery technology improves over time. Give it a couple years.
Hopeful the next version will have stereo capture for “spacial” videos also would like 16 hours of battery life as these would be my glasses too, maybe next version if you have always listening off we could get there. Different colors also, maybe tortoise to give it some style
Is there any SDK to host own software on your phone?
Great video and I agree these feel like regular Ray Bans and not some odd techie wearable. I only use them in the default sunglasses option, but when I'm out and about, I'm really loving them. And best of all they look good and feel great. I only wish they had a 2nd camera for 180 degree VR stereoscopic video capabilities. Oh well, maybe Gen 3 will have that feature.
i really want something like this that thrives in low light so i can stream onstage at music festivals but want no meta or platform lockdowns
Thanks for the video. Out of interest, is there a way to switch off the glasses to save battery? Trying to understand what action switches them on and therefore uses the battery. Is it when the arms are open i.e. on the head?

I'd be interested in how durable they are. Working on cars and trucks my glasses take a beating but being able to take pictures hand free would be great.
Mine have fallen off my head and hit the ground more then 10 times, Happened twice today hanging out clothes, landed on concrete. They are fine.

Without a HUD, its just an IoT cam strapped to your face.
Given my personal preferences and needs, I find the utility of these glasses to be limited. While the integration of audio capabilities, picture/video recording, and smart features into sunglasses is innovative, the absence of an augmented reality (AR) display diminishes their appeal to me. Without this feature, they do not align with my expectations for such advanced eyewear.
Does the camera and or video work in sunlight whilst moving as in bike riding ? Or are pictures blurry ?
Great thorough review! What did you think of the app? Is the app lacking anything? I wish the glasses would record landsape 16x9 mode. The aspect ratio they are using seems like pre 1990!
Ive come from the bose temp. How is the audio? I will mostly be using this for work where i listen to music allday but cant wear ear buds.

So, as a blind man, there's a company out there that has had this for us for over 5 years. However they were about 1,800$. I refused because that was too much to pay for me to be able to see with current technology. What are your thoughts about costs?

This doesn't sound like a particularly good use case for you, unless you write your own software and just want a form factor that the rest of us won't notice.
I’m not blind but I don’t think these glasses are meant for your use case just yet. I think for now, the Be My Eyes app would be better and more affordable(it’s a free app).

Temple controls are pretty clever, that’s interesting. Shame about the battery life, and being connected to the Meta products, but I am sure they are quietly subsidizing the price, so it makes sense.

I wear raybans as my go-to sunglasses and if they released wayfarers with the speakers but no camera I'd buy it in a second.

can i make the lens into sunglasses / glasses wear every day if i make it to the glasses store?
So, I just got these for my wife and she loves them. But I have a question I can't find being addressed anywhere yet. If you select the option to have your photos automatically backup to your phone, will the glasses automatically delete old photos and videos to make room if your storage gets close to being full? We have hers set up to auto sync the pictures and videos she takes to her phone and we added that folder on her phone to the list of folders that gets automatically backed up to Google Photos. We also selected the option to automatically delete photos and videos older than 30 days in the meta app. Everything works great so far. But there doesnt seem to be a way to check how much of the 32GB onboard storage is remaining. So what happens if she uses up the 32GB before the 30 days? I'd hope since there isnt a way to verify how much storage is remaining that it would start deleting older pics and videos to make room. Do you know?
Just delet on the meta app when it says it's full. Select delete meta only, the other choice says delete both phone and meta
With the cameras I only want beam splitters and such to get an AR Hud.
Google Maps has a nice feature when you're walking around. You hold your camera up and it shows you where to go, even displaying giant arrows when you need to turn. Imagine seeing that in your glasses. That's all I'm saying.
Also maybe just a map, time, notifications, Health points and bullets in your gun visible all the time in the corner would just be amazing!

I hear what you are saying. These things are still in gimmick mode. 1 minute of basic vid. You can keep that. You can put on yer wish list that forever to be released tech where we can get real-time language translations. I thought this would be out a decade back.
@@grittsy they could do it but they’re gonna release 10 versions over 9 years to keep people buying. Same way apple does iPhone. Look at the vision pro, same example

Do you have to pair with your phone to take phone calls, or can you pair with your Apple Watch?
The combination of glasses & watch sounds ideal in some circumstances.
I was able to get the 2nd roll out of Google Glass, my friend who was one of the first 10K beta was able to invite 3 people and I used them for about 2 years before the broke. Like your experience, the audio and camera was the best use case, the HUD was poor but was decent for notifications. I'm not reconsidering this an an alternative to earbuds if I can make a pair work as an alternative to reading glasses that I am now dependent on.
I enjoyed the review and I can't help but think how in addition to these replacing other audio devices they will eventually replace many features from smart watches, especially with some level of heads up display

I am curious if you can even get good footage or pics being that your head has a lot of micro movements that we don't realize.
Is it normal to have the white edge line around the lenses?

Just won a pair - pretty amazing - they also translated whatever I was looking at (English/Italian/Spanish/French/German) - was able to answer a math problem I wrote down - was able to answer a multiple choice question on screen - basically also acts like a BT headset so all my music streaming works great - send/listen to txts and calls - v6 update now allows 3min vids 😎

I’ve been using the Bose Frames for 3 years now. Had a Bose Frames Alto, enjoyed the upgrade to the Bose Frames Tenor and am currently in awe of how much better a new Tenor I got sounds, even though it looks like Bose has stopped making them. It looks like a really well received and reviewed product, I believe they are just working on new ones.
I’d love to hear about how they compare to these Meta ones audio-wise, even though I can’t use the Meta because they don’t make it for prescriptions higher than 5.
As someone who used to manage a Best Buy, the issue is also sales numbers. Bose didn't really move too many units, definitely less than they'd have liked anyway. Even if you've got rave reviews from almost everyone who bought them, it doesn't end up counting for much if that demographic is so small.
I think you'll see them revised and returning, but probably not for another few years. They were a little ahead of their time and the design could definitely use a little revision (in terms of looks, functionally they're pretty decent but they do kinda look like fake Dollar Store glasses)
Can you turn the recording light off?
The concept is of course really interesting and could be amazingly useful when the services mature enough and if performance was sufficient. It would be cool to for example be able to access a drawing, technical reference etc while working on something, or even better, say an AR system where you for example can get an overlay when working on a motor, a suspension or similar and that overlay can give details on how to disassemble/assemble parts, identify components and their functions and so on. As in, you look at a car motor and you can immediately get info on what a tube or cable is for, where it goes, specified voltage or pressure. All of this is of course a ways into the future, but I’m sure it will get there. Ruggedness is the final part that needs to improve for some of us; I could never use a pair that can’t take heavy dirt, water and some rough handling in my day to day life.

Not a bone-conductive speaker. The speakers are small and located above your ear. If over 75% volume, others can hear. Otherwise no.
I haven't tried a Watch, but they work well to take calls. Tap on the arm to activate/answer.

Through the video, I also realized that the call quality is good, but I wanted to know if it is possible to Bluetooth pair with a device (such as the Apple Watch) that does not have the native Meta application.
Can someone who has used these tell me if the speakers are good enough to hear music in a louder environment?
The case should charge a few swappable batteries. The price isn't too bad and I like the audio feature but they should be more water resistant.
Snapchat spectacles are good too, especially considering how new snap was at the time to making physical products.
This would be really cool but no landscape mode is a deal breaker for me.

I wish the glasses used a physical camera cover. The creepy part of smart glasses is the exposed lens where people can't tell if they are being recorded.
I also wish this was like some sort of dash cam. As a pedestrian and cyclist, I can never remember license plates of cars that almost hit me.
Oh but they have a little red “recording” light in the side that even has a sensor that beeps if you try to cover it. Does absolutely nothing when META, in league with the NWO and the lizard men are recording….
What? There’s a light that’s on when recording. If you attempt to cover it, it won’t take video or pictures
@gaber1807 It's kinda like how a phone camera has no recording light. People are alert when someone starts pointing a phone at them even though they might not be recording. If there is an uncovered lens, it is assumed to be recording regardless if there is a recording light. It's similar to people who put tape over their laptop cameras.
@@gaber1807 Not everyone knows that's how these work, seeing someone with cameras strapped to their face is creepy regardless. If they really want me to wear camera glasses they're gonna have to make them discrete.
Tbh, I work with creepy ass co workers, or I remember this one time a manager hit my on the head with a bread rack, so I need to carry some kind of cam recorder with me just to prove I work with creepy people
i think the reason people didnt react was, who would have guessed that random white dot means someone is filming, just feels like it isnt enough as a sign that people are filming
It doesn't attract attention to itself, like how a blinking red light would.
I don’t know if my eyes are bad but I like the quality of the photos. I get the blurryness with the fast movement but 🤷🏼♂️
I really hope we see more of these but from someone other than Meta.
When the tech looks "cool" (or at least "normal"), that's when you know they're serious about bringing it to market.
The light indicator seems like something that could be worked around via jailbreaking and software revision. Same with the video time limit (which seems odd anyway).
Just cover it with paint or nail polish or tape
Black Nail polish perfectly over the light and not the whole lens will fix this. The indicator is around the light so if you cover just the light and not the whole lens you’ll be fine.

So much commentary about the camera, and listening to music. What about having AI (Hey Meta!)? I have Google homes in my house, but having access when driving or walking is what I'm interested in.
I asked the meta assistant what 20x1 was, and it replied that it was 200.. I was confused, so I asked again and it again said 200.. Then I said, "That's not correct." and it replied "Sorry, you are correct, 20x1 is 20" So weird, and don't trust its math functions. Today is the first day I got to use mine (just got them), and its pretty cool. I'm not on the beta, so my functionality is limited, and I am looking forward to the updates, or getting on the beta.
Even with the short comings, I love them. I use contact lenses, and I bought the transition lenses type. So, I can wear indoors and outdoors. Even walking at night when is windy to avoid dust on the contacts. The pics are okay. Videos are better. I'm still having a blast taking pics/ vids while walking around in Manhattan without having to use a cellular all the time.
Since I, as the consumer, can't change out the battery, that's a deal breaker for me. Too bad, I think they're pretty cool.

At first I was put off by no landscape but portrait gets to the point and it's the viewers experience in a way. I'm sold if it's better
I'm actually wearing glasses that only have the audio and it works pretty much exactly the same way as described here. It's called the Revel Tune and they look pretty similar. I used to use them to listen to music at work, but the left side audio and mic stopped working a few months in and now it won't hold a charge. Also it has a weird proprietary magnetic charger. I'll probably get another one when I can afford it and leave it unfolded when I charge it at night.
im certain the company will hook you up with something if you turn in the broken one with the intention of spending money again with them

I read the policy is 50% outside of warranty... which sounds about right as I've had a fossil hybrid watch go bad after a year and a store knowing the policy and giving me an appropriate discount on a similar watch. Time will see

I went to the store and tried it. I like it, but Rayban glasses doesn’t look good on me, it looks small on me. I like the technology and idea of it. I think it’s really good for jogging with it. The sounds are really clear and great. Plus it’s not heavy at all.

Thanks for the review mate. Charging 2-3 times a day for average use is no go for me. I need a battery life that lasts.

I wear these on top of my head while I'm at work. Everyone thinks they are just sunglasses on top of my head. Little do they know, that I'm listening to music. That's the true advantage of these glasses. You don't need the app, if you just pair them through bluetooth.
On the iphone I am not able to connect straight on bluetooth, only with the Smart View app.
Ngl, if these just had the speakers and a mic I'd get a pair immediately. I love having music in the background and being able to make calls w/o holding my phone. I already use Sony's Linkbuds for that but those get kinda uncomfortable after a few hours because they're just hard plastic
They do have phone call and messages capabilities. Anything you can do with a pair of earbuds, you can do with these. The only drawback is that if there is alot of wind you may have a hard time hearing someone talking. However, the other person can hear you perfectly.
Please more videos about testing new tech like this one! Yes, we all love Adam, that doesn't have to change, but more actual tests please.
