These look SWEET, but the 60 sec limit is a huge con. A fatal con.

Yes. I was thinking it would be neat to film while snowboarding a run. Most my runs last more than 60 seconds.
I have these Meta smart glasses as well. I mainly use them as sunglasses and headphones replacement. The few videos I have taken ended up on IG, but the recording angle does take getting used to. Definitely a cool concept. Hopefully the next iteration could center the camera or maybe have 2 cameras on the a side that gets stitched to get in post maybe.
When I first heard about them, I assumed there were 2 cameras and they would stitch the video together. It was disappointing to discover that wasn’t the case. But my overall impression of these glasses was positive and I’m pretty sure future versions will be even better.
I returned mine for the same reason, the size was too small. I went to the store to try the larger pair but they felt too big. Wish they had a in-between size.

I took a hairdryer to the nose bridge heated it up and pulled the stems slightly apart, fits perfect now

I have had a pair for a month….sound is excellent….transition lenses are not dark enough for Florida sun. Price is not bad. Camera is decent…definitely handy.
Great video. I was humming and hawing about getting a pair of these and this video helped me make up my mind (to hold off for now). The camera is the biggest draw for me and the leaning head and aspect ratios are dealbreakers for me. Thanks for making this video.
Great review, this helped me tremendously. I need to take a breath and wait for a better implementation of these I guess. The aspect ratio is a no-sale for me. I could put up with all the other cons but I’m old and my brain will never accept vertical videos. We have peripheral vision for a reason.
I’m super excited by the idea of these glasses, now I just need to wait for a better implementation. I wish Apple had gotten to Ray-Ban before Meta.

You owe it to yourself to try them. If you not satisfied you can always return them. These glasses are amazing! Especially the sound quality and the fact nobody knows you’re listening to music
Another thing not mentioned is that there is an agreement term where you have to accept that everything you do on there pretty much belongs to meta which is tied to fbook and instagram.

I was worried about this, but no, they don’t. And I used the thickest 1.8mm nose pads too.
this review helps me. I was interested, but these flaws are a dealbreaker for me too
I think there are two issues to consider:
1) people need to give some thought to which items in their lives they wish to have "connected" or "smart" and which ones they do not. If you are wearing your glasses every waking moment, it might make more sense than if you wear them occasionally. or if you set your phone on the charger when you come home, it might be more useful to have some of the functions on your glasses if you have them on when your phone is not within reach.
2) is the configuration of the smart item such that it works the way you do. the flashing light when you take a picture or record a video, the video recording limit, using a Facebook account, etc. if you have to change to meet the item, you might just do it on your phone where you don't have the same restrictions, especially if you would have your phone with you anyway.
personally, I feel that some of the features were set up to avoid some of the complaints/concerns about google glass, which is understandable, but a camera, any camera should be a dumb input device, and if people who construct a product place arbitrary constraints on it for the good of society, unless I agree, then I become less interested. too many device manufacturers set rules on how a product you buy can be used.
also, I tend to have my phone on me except when I am at home and don't wish to be disturbed, and I have my phone with me as much as I have my glasses on, so this doesn't really appeal to me. it might be useful if someone confronts you in public and you want to have video in case they assault you, but the video recording limit and the idiot light makes it useless for that. otherwise, it could actually be a good safety feature: walking to your car at night, turn it on, if you get home safely, delete the video; if you don't, maybe it helps the police find the person who did it.
so if you are some influencer, or content creator, if might make sense. However, I think my glasses make me look smart, but don't need to be smart in themselves. not, at least, how these are configured.
wow you are the first person who got them customised, I didn't know we can do that! I've been hesitating so much about the color, because I loved the round lense, brown frame ones, but they are not transition type. I take a lot of photos and videos, so I think transition is my best option, but if I can get them customised, then maybe I can ask for brown frame, but transition lenses. Hopefully they do here in Australia.
I highly recommend visiting a Ray Ban retail store. I had no idea they could be customized either until I talked directly to a sales rep.
@Gemini_Connect I visited 3 stores including one RayBan. Unfortunately, they don't have much information here about smart glasses (which I was surprised) and the info I found in internet and gave them was mostly new to them :(
Just found you video AFTER I ordered these glasses with transistions and prescriptions from my optometrist. lol. I liked the fit from the office and I am half Korean so I get the "face thing" 😁. However (thanks to Dad 😉), I have a more angular face and nose is a little narrower. Maybe I lucked out with the larger size? 🤔 Here's hoping that they meet my expectations- decent audio w/o my airpods, camera on the go (minus the creep factor. lol), and comfort as I wear glasses all the time. I hope they work out well for you! I really wanted them to work for me, but hopefully the next iteration has more size options.
One thing I want to bring up is that I don’t think your issue is as much about them being wide enough as you think. You said the Erika Metal’s are fine, but those are actually 132mm hinge to hinge, where the L Meta’s are 136.8. I think it’s more the inflexible of the injected plastic used to make them, especially opposed to the flexibility of metal. I personally do not like glasses with plastic/acetate arms, I try to only use titanium, but I have a few pairs with acetate fronts attached to titanium arms.
TLDR, they should be made of a better material at least where they’re able to.
Now that you have done the research can you get the wider sizes? I too have a wide face and sunglasses are hard to fit. I was told I need 56 to 58 lens width. Is that size available ?

I really wanted to purchase these, but my prescription is too high so my lenses are too thick, which may warp the electronic cables inside. I hope the next gen ones are made for people like me.
The odd recording angle would be a deal breaker for me. But also the short recording length, aspect ratio, low res.
I'll come back when they iron out all the kinks.

just got the. yesterday and they suck, the case stopped charging, waited 30 mins for tech support who told me nothing! i have to return those and wait for Apples version
Sorry to hear that! If there’s a Ray Ban retail store near you, I recommend going to them. In person customer service has been top notch in my experience.
I know I am late to the party, but I just got my Meta Ray bands, which I am loving by the way, and I just wanted to make sure you knew that they do actually have the cleaning cloth inside the back of the box in that small pocket where the instruction manuals are.
Indeed, many people have mentioned that in the comments. I didn’t take the packaging fully apart because I knew there was a strong possibility I’d want to return these.

My experience is opposite yours. Comfortable fit, fast connection, simple settings, I guess I already expected the aspect ratio, video length and privacy stuff from my own research. They do everything I expected flawlessly.
That’s great to hear! I know plenty of folks who have had a positive experience with these glasses. I just hope they offer wider sizes - if they did, I’d be enjoying these a lot more!
Great video the only correction I would make is that it doesn’t take that long for the glasses to wake up if you just place them in the case to sleep instead of turning completely off with the switch

My understanding was you couldn't upload the videos or pictures on anything other than Facebook or Instagram
But since you can even post em here on CZcams or tiktok, that's super cool! I do wish you could change the aspect ratio or length of recording. And the angling your face to record the shot you want would be an odd thing to get used to haha
If you’re live streaming, you can only post to FB of IG. But all other captured media can be exported to any platform.

I'm wondering if the video upload to CZcams won't be able to use adsense as the ratio is vertical and not horizontal? Does anyone know?
I don’t think video orientation/aspect ratio affects the ability to turn on Adsense.

This is the best review I have seen, for these glasses. The photo and video samples are really good, so you have the off-axis camera positioning. I wonder why they couldn't put the camera in the nosepiece, to avoid teh parallax problem.
I'm from England and also have a large head [caps have to be XXL], with a nose that makes glasses slide downwards. I wear a neck strap with my glasses, that spaces the arms from the region above my ears: no head aches now!
Didn't the prior release of these glasses shoot square video? I hate vertical video. I also hate FB/Meta. Aside from that, I really like the concept here. Nearly $400 and no lens cleaner?
It did have a lens cloth - it was packed into a hidden compartment in the box. I didn’t take the entire box apart as I had a feeling the sizing would be an issue and I might have to return them.
I hope their future version has spec-bumped up cameras on both sides and they stitch up the videos from both feeds like insta360 using AI . That would be really amazing. !!
Also u can view live on your phone and the new ai is amazing, not sure when you got yours but the second gen and newest updates made them epic

I wouldn't be surprised that your perceived shooting angle through the glasses is an adjustment of parallax. You may not be aware which eye of yours is dominant. Because one of your eyes is dominant. Stick your hands out in front of you arms length forming a frame with your thumbs connecting and your pointer fingers up like the goal post uprights at a football game. Spot one object in the middle in the center of your uprights. The test to know which eye is dominant is the one that, when you close the other it disappears. So if your left eye is dominant and you close the left eye then these object in the uprights of your field of vision that you focused on will be on outside of the uprights. When you switch to the other eye, the dominant eye, then the object is seen in the center of the uprights..
Another reason why aim could be difficult is because your not 100% guaranteed the camera is mounted perfectly parallel to the axis of the forward true vector of view. If it's off by a tiny amount, it'll never be sighted in properly in the same way as a guns mounted telescope has to be adjusted to match the barreling of the weapon. For a person that needs reliable precise predictable field of view for the purposes of making money, they are mostly convenient but have a way to go to be high quality to use all the time.
For me, since I wear glasses my whole life except for sleeping & showering, I would need multiple pair to get thru a typical day when a single charge lasts just 4 hours. I'd have to have at least two pair . One to be in use. The other charging ready to be swapped in when the battery is low.
That's a very good point about the dominant eye.
re: the 4 hour charge, this is why I mentioned the slow startup time. I turned my glasses off periodically during the day to conserve battery life and take advantage of using the glasses normally without the "smart functions." For those of us who might use them for prescription purposes or wear them all day long, it would be nice if there was not only a longer battery life, but also a faster startup time.
True that! That's what I was thinking, I need a 2nd pair to last throughout the day listening to audiobooks.
My right eye is dominant, but the Ray Ban smart glasses have the camera on the left side.
I think it would be good if the glasses had two variants: one with the camera on the left and the other with the camera on the right (the recording light will be on the other side). Then people can choose the variant that matches their ocular dominance.

There are some practical aspects to the Ray Ban sunglasses, but it seems like it's not really a necessity. They looked good on you, and your regular sunglasses look great on you. -- In the end... you can travel just a bit lighter without the glasses that don't really fit a 'need'. Thanks for the review.
That was 100% how I felt in the end. They're fun and possibly practical for someone who films short-form vertical content. But for most of us, they're a luxury rather than a necessity.

Aw, thank you! I've been struggling to find good fitting glasses for most of my life, to the point that it seems normal that they're ill-fitting. But My Felix Gray pair in particular is actually a really good fit. Possibly the best fit I've ever had.

I can't believe I missed that...twice 😅 I think it's because I was trying to keep the packaging intact knowing there was a possibility I'd return the product.
I get that, I still haven't touched the cleaning cloth in my packaging. Lol. I also understand your pain about the fit, thus the adhesive nose pads modification. I kept my Wayfarers though, I use it mostly as an earphone. My only gripe is the battery life. Listening to audiobooks, it only lasts 4 hours for me. After that it's just a regular Rx glasses for me. 🤓
I have a 2023 Motorola Edge Plus which is basically a flagship phone. Based on the website I'm not a supported phone thus Bluetooth audio (CZcams and Spotify) doesn't work. I used my 2019 Samsung Note 10 plus and Bluetooth audio works 😭. If you don't use a Samsung you're out of luck for audio.

I did indeed return them. With tax, they cost over $400. That didn’t seem worth the discomfort.
They really need to just add a firmware update that lets you shoot 16:9. What a boneheaded move.

You would think…but I feel like livestream quality generally isn’t the best.
I would of brought a pair if they recorded in landscape rather than portrait, I think they’ve made a huge mistake there. Maybe they will realise this and make a updated version
If these could shoot landscape, I would’ve dealt with the poor fit and kept them. Hopefully the next iteration has landscape!

I think it would make the most sense for the video to simply be captured in 1920 X 1920 square format.
That’s not a bad idea. Could be like the GoPro’s 8:7 aspect ratio, which lets you crop in vertical or horizontal in post.

I see no reason why the video is not landscape. I have tried them on side by since with regular ray bans and it is amazing how close it gets to the actual glasses. I have worn ray bans longer than you have been alive so the fact they can marry the high tech with this classic style is a real winner. The true downside to me is this is Meta. I want to see what they do with the new AI features.

Yeah, I heard. I kept the box and the manual intact because I knew there was a strong possibility of returning these due to my difficulty at finding glasses that fit.

I'm a simple man, and here is my simple question: Can I bring these to places where you are not supposed to film or take pictures and not get caught?
Nothing stops you from bringing them places. However, you’d need to mind where you are in terms of where you can take pictures and videos legally. Public places are generally fine, but it’s not ok on private property. And as a common courtesy, I’d avoid filming or photographing strangers without their permission.

When you buy regular Ray Bans, the cleaning cloth is one of the first things you see when you open the case. I assumed this product would be packaged similarly and didn’t bother searching further for it. Also goes to show how many of us read the included manuals these days 😅 (I watch setup guides on CZcams instead).

That’s how I feel too. Would rather have the ability to crop a horizontal into vertical after the fact if needed.

You can get them on Amazon, but I recommend buying directly from Ray Ban on their website or in-store. The buying options (size, lens types) are more clear.

Anyone who doesn’t know how to use or see the actually helpful use case of these specs, is just old and out of touch.
This review is whack. Home girl is blaming the glasses for having a big head lol. It’s not the tech, it’s your dome! Why not have an actual young person use these. Meta killed this version. I use mine literally everyday.
I say in the review many times that I think these glasses have their merits. It’s just unfortunate they don’t make them for those of us who have bigger sized heads. Believe me, I’d shrink mine if I could 😂
