They called that OHC single a PeaShooter. Most were 350ccs but they made some as 500ccs. Some had dual exhaust ports with only a single exhaust valve. I have been watchin a lot of Wheels Through Time videos lately.... That Ironhead might have an oilbag full of gasoline if it don't have an overflow for the float bowl..... It's funny that if you get a bunch of people together to do a weird "not-a-race" thing, you get to camp "legally", but you can't just sleep on the beach or in a park or whatever... Unless you're from anywhere else but America... Then you get the red carpet rolled out for you, while the people who LIVE HERE can't pitch a tent or sleep in a lawn chair by the ocean

He should change out his clutch pack for a few hundred dollar aftermarket one like from bdl.. my twin cam shifts smooth now and keep your cables lubed and adjusted

im subscribed, i ride but take one long trip ev years, last trip was 6000 miles, nothing compared to sum but i have learned to slow it down and stay gone so i can relate to the vids. First week or two its like you got ants in ypur pants but then just really chill out and into easy rider mode. I like riding as far away from people as possible.

Scotty, I heard years back not to buy a Harley touring bike that has been totaled, from a rear end collision. I forgot who told me that, but they said it's common that the part of the case that broke off that guys cover, usually cracks from a hard hit.,,,
I never thought about a rear collision, that makes sense. Glad I moved it along, lol

Winterset covered bridge festival. It draws a lot of tourists. There are 6 covered bridges in Madison county, the most in any county west of the Mississippi. Beautiful area.

Scotty.have you tried to back the timing plate down a tick to work the ping out? sometimes just a degree or 2 less timing will make it happy..
I did. Pinging was caused by a different problem. The motor later went south because of it.
That ole bike over the bar is a board tracker. A bicycle with a bad-ass engine, throttle and no brakes. Go like heck and hope you keep making the turn cause the only other choice is death.

Joes Honda XT lost its hydraulic clutch slave cylender in NM on the way to sturgis. Book calls for pulling the motor to replace it + he had to wait on the parts. Big job for a simple clutch cable that id replace on the side of the road. 1800 Goldwing manual calls for 4 hours to replace the air filter. Yeah, i think harleys break more but on the old ones at least u can fix anything that breaks.
@@scootertrampscotty Joe was using the wrong bike...a performance oriented sports bike for long distance touring. Those things need lots of TLC and for short fast runs and parked under cover at night like a race horse. A Honda designed for purpose like an Africa twin or transalp ....never would have had any problems....

His new Honda, very low milage, lost the rear suspension, $800, the charging system, etc. Joe Sparrows high milage 1800 Goldwing went through 4 driveshafts, 3 timing belts, 3 sets of neck bearings, starters, etc over the years he owned it and Joes an extremely good Jap bike mechanic. I rode the thong once. It was all fucked up like my old bike. Normal riders often think these things never break. Use them like we do and youll change your mind.

I owned a 04 twin cam once, liked most everything about it🤔
Except the ppe (piss poor engineering). Pulled engine after 50k miles and repaired all that nonsense, did some preventative maintenance while apart. Was furious over all the made in China tags I found throughout the wiring harness!
If I weren't old & disabled, a 90 s something Evo would be my first pick for a scooter ✌️🤙

My neck of the woods, I grew up in Covington Indiana myself my kids live there while I’m out running freight as a trucker. I’m about done with this bs, I’m no longer enjoying it like I used to sadly. ATM doing it only for the money so I can stuff it in my savings account and get out, getting a little place for a while so I can save up for a bike more than likely an ebony bc I hear their fairly easy to work on yourself hopefully an older one bc all this computer crap I hate. But yeah after I’m off the road and doing home daily daycab work gonna be setting myself up for the next stage, once my kids are old enough I’m gone. And vampire hahaha I couldn’t sleep in that little thing man, I need to get out on shorter weekend runs when I can, camp wherever and get a taste of freedom before I go nuts. If your ever in around the Covington area exit 8 off i74 let me know, where I live man. No pad atm and I’m there parked on home time, I’d be glad to meet ya at any rate man dinner etc on me. Hey Scottie. I have been following "ADV" for many years now, but I only recently stumbled upon your channel. Love your bike choice; I recently acquired a new to me Evo Tourer but have been in and out of Harleys for over a decade now. Been into bikes all my life. I love your troubleshooting and bulletproofing videos, so thanks for that. I have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind.
1. Have you ever considered mounting a car rear tire given the amount of miles you put in? What's your $0,02 on that?
2. I see you've focused on Canada, US and Mexico. Have you ever gotten the bug of going further south or even shipping the bike overseas?
3. Not so much a question, but a suggestion. I see a lot of youtubers setting up a Patreon page. Looks like a better way to help w/ funding as it ensures a monthly income stream for those who make the commitment of subscribing.
Keep up the good work. You are a hero to a lot of us! Happy trails and keep the rubber side down!

1911 was the first year for the IOE (F) head twin cylinder. A single cylinder IOE (F) head came out in 1926 (345 cc ).
@@everettcalhoun8197 that’s good info. My hill climbing F head was a twin originally. The guy wanted to qualify for the single cylinder class so he took the rear cylinder off and capped the hole.
F-Head has one overhead valve if im not mistaken. Still oval shaped combustion chamber like a flathead though, aint it?

Hello, that's my 1997 Road King, and I would definitely not suggest it for long haul 2 up. Especially if you're going to do any interstate riding. She's a great 2 laner 1 up bike, though.
If you're thinking of any kind of distance riding with 2 up and gear, get a 103 Electra Glide, minimum.

The bike ride across Iowa is a pain for some folks. You can’t camp anywhere some of the people will poop in private places like your front yard
On my trip through last year, I found a sweet spot to camp in NE MO, just south of the state line, then road through the state the next day to another sweet spot in SE South Dakota.
