@Tesla Plaid Channel @18:05 it’s great to see another model 3 other than the performance AGAIN! Performance is great but there are some of us that want to see what the other model 3’s are capable of too.
Have you raced Rob Dahm and his super rotary miracle car? Sorry if I seem sarcastic but that is me.
Great video and I will again suggest you get a HANS rig....you're worth it. 😉
Blake is _SUPER SMOOTH_ on the track going FULL ON! Leaves nothing in the tank!
There is nothing in the 'tank' to begin with. 😀
super smooth on sebring is literally impossible.
Video of a guy driving a Plaid at the Nurburgring in Germany is very amazing to watch.
Way to go Blake, enjoy everyday. I am happy for you.
Andrew, that had to have been a blast. Thanks so much for posting.
👍It sure was! Glad you enjoyed it also!
I am old enough to remember when exceeding 1.0g lateral on street tires was revolutionary!
The adrenaline must have been off the chain!!!
I was at my limits, lap after lap…
Amazing, did Blakes Plaid grip the track really well. The video made it look like it was on rails.
Those Yokohama Advan slicks were amazing at this track. It was right about my limit of G-forces...
This racing video is great fun! The modified Plaid is amazing on the track, but it was odd hearing the GT3 engine sounds. The Model 3 is also impressive, seeing that it is not even the Performance model or heavily modded, but it is still quite capable. Thanks for sharing both of these exciting track runs.
2 Awesome Drivers!!
Great video Andrew
Thanks
that's awesome, lots of haters don't believe Tesla could do track.
haters never been in the seat amirite?
Very cool video!
Incredible..!!
Now that a Plaid S or X can be had for $90k new, everyone is going to have one.
👍Deal of the century! 😃
Very cool video!!
Different not hearing shifts, or exhaust noise.
But very cool!!
I thought they were around $130k new?
@@jimmyjohnson7883 Big price drops lately, as production is fully ramped up 👍
I wish. I just retired from the army and got hit with a divorce. Lost my model 3 performance but I won my kids and home but no money now for another tesla and my tesla was the best car I ever owned!
Under $90K.... _WOW_ Model S & X _PLAID_ 'The Price Is Right'_
Everybody, 'Come on Down'
He’s right. Tesla needs to build superchargers at all major racetracks in order to boost their performance car sales.
That mirror in the way of the camera is ticking me off. 🤣
Love how he casually talks with his hands while doing something that would scare me to death.
The modified Model S Plaid is very impressive going around Sebring. Sebring is a track that allows the Model S Plaid to use its high power to huge advantage. The car looked well composed for a sedan. Porsche's typically are on the low side of power to weight ratio they typically do better in turning with the right driver than most other cars. Taking the compact Tesla out later it appeared to behave more like a typical car with some sporting attributes.
The Model S was an entirely more refined vehicle. I've never seen a track car outfitted with four bucket racing seats! They defiantly make riding in a track car much better. The livability of Track Model S Plaid compared to other track cars appears to be better, although if you are not interested in track maintaining your car then tracking it is likely not right for you. The thing with BEVs is they are heavy and making reasonably living performance track tires for them is much more difficult than if they were a bit lighter. It's surprising the Model S Plaid still has speed limiting because there are no tires with a high enough speed rating for it. That's not a problem for lighter cars.
Model S plaid got blown out the water by the new taycan coming out. It's time got beat by 20 seconds only 2 seconds behind the 1800hp rimac nevera 😮
Way To Go Blake!!
Can’t wait to see Tesla Roadster or the next gen Plaid on the track.
Loved the video. Great to see you at Sebring, but disappointed that it wasn't you driving your Plaid! I've always wanted to go on a road course with mine. Maybe we can go to a ChinTrackDay event there when I'm back in the fall. You should add some voice over commentary during the drive with Blake.
👍We had in-helmet communications with each other, but didn’t have a way to record the audio that day. A post-production voice over is a good idea, wish we’d had more time to do that this week but we almost had to delay the post as it was. Hope it was enjoyable nonetheless
that Porsche Looked Parked when you guys passed it at 170 mph.
WOW
18:00 Everyone thinks a Performance Model 3 (or Y) would be faster than just the AWD LR, but once you're up to speed they both handle about the same. They both have the same top end acceleration. It's the launch and that first bit of power that is different in a Performance, and the top speed of course. Track Pack can help a P, along with the bigger brakes. But road racing is really about driving smooth lines - smooth is fast.
Hearing gear shifts in a plaid ,I was like WTF??? LOL
That was really interesting to watch. It must be kind of humiliating to ICE powered car dudes, especially the ones that are against electric, to have their doors blown off. That 172 m.p.h. pass was something and I’m sure the Corvette owner was thrilled too. The Boosted Boiz really did their homework by putting their Tesla into the wind tunnel to perfect the aerodynamic ability of their drag Tesla. The 1/4 mile times they achieved was pretty awesome.👍👍🇨🇦
To be honest with you I am one of those guys, I strongly dislike electric cars, I had no idea they could handle like that I only ever seen or heard of drag race videos, but 1.5 gs on street tires is absolutely nuts, as much as I dislike electric cars, for performance, it just makes sense my logical side won't let this go I have to give credit where credit is due
4680 Roadster will be the track and drag KING! ⚡️🇺🇸
When will we see that? The 5th of Never?
@@letsgobrandon5800
Patience young one.
@@grumpusmaximus9446 Elon tests it every day with his promises.
@@letsgobrandon5800
Well if you can't wait for the Roadster, I'm sure there's plenty of alternatives out there....right?
Six years and counting. Wait, still no production line underway? 🤔
It it possible to upgrade to the more unlocked track package or is that only on possible to get with a new sold car with that option?
It's available for $15K, for special brakes and 200MPH unlock. (Or for $20K including 20" wheels also.). But we can't do it for our car because those brakes won't fit inside the 19" wheels, which are faster.
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Ok, interesting so it is possible to buy the upgrade after you have bought the car.
Is not possible to do the upgrade and then change the wheels and brakes after to the setup you prefer? Does the car keep track of the setup after the upgrade to allow the improved max speed?
There is some possible other options though.
Have you seen these guys at Ingenext that seem to have found a way to unlock the Plaid's speed completely. czcams.com/video/T7mQW0OeUJ8/video.html
czcams.com/video/0N95g8pM6Eg/video.html
They don't seem to sell there solution yet but it is possible somehow at least.
And i also strongly suspect that fueltech are working on fully unlocking the Plaid with there ECU,
The owner Anderson Dick own's a Plaid and there is no way they are not hacking that car to control its engines from there system. There latest ECU soon to be released is very EV focused it seems.
And Kyle have hinted something about fueltech being involved in his e-roy project by using a fueltech sponsor sticker on his Plaid.
@@TeslaPlaidChannel you can get the $20k package with wheels and it’s straight bolt on to Plaid.
@@letsgobrandon5800 Yes, but for drag racing the 19”s are faster, so we won’t be doing the track pack upgrade…
Wow, I was so glad he finally passed that Porsche (6:27). I was getting tired of hearing that thing. It was like having a persistent gnat buzzing your head 🙂
I guess that’s what petrol heads consider as the “soul” of the car. Hardly a selling point for me. I’d rather be fast than just sound fast.
@@lemongavineHa ha, yeah, it’s like some of the ricers I pass on the street. You hear their cars screaming while accelerating and they’re going nowhere fast!😅
@@gabem8119 all bark and no bite
Excellent content. I believe that ev racing will snowball quickly. It seems to be a very cost effective option not to mention faster than almost anything on the track. Circuit and drag strip feelings hurter.
Of all the things stripped out why does it still have the sun visors JW?
👍 They seemed superfluous indeed 😃
Is regenerative braking operational on that car?
In “Track Mode”, the driver can adjust a slider from 0 to 100 for the Regenerative Braking. Not sure where Blake had it set for these laps, but the specific track (and driver preference) dictates where to set it (Momentum track vs horsepower track)
Schmee's GT turned into C8.
What was the battery level at beginning and ending?
👍 Blake just sent the logged data. We started at 93% and went down to 62%, using 31%, or ~6% per hot lap (we did 5). At that pace, the Plaid could do about 15 laps.
Ugh these Teslas are on a different level
I'm sure there is someone designing bigger rotors, pads and calipers for Tesla's if they don't have them already
Yep, a couple aftermarket vendors offer them, and Tesla now offers a “Track Pack” CCB kit for $15K (installed)
At least you could hear the beautiful sound of the gt3 Rs ice in front of you for a bit.
Yup someone who paid a lot more for something much slower that wasn't made in America and can only run on burnable fuels.
At 89k the plaid ms now is the deal of the century for publicly accessible reliable speed. Lapped the nurburgring faster than a 08 Ferrari enzo. 😎
@@4literv6 the Nurburgring ring for the sake of argument is the measure for these cars. The gt3 Rs bested the Plaid by over 30 seconds.
@@scottw595 ah yes moving the goalposts how quaint. 😏
@@4literv6 you said Nurburfring.
Seeing him run with no air bag is kind of worry some. Is there a reason he doesn't? No way its for weight saving
Airbags are great when there’s no harness. Harnesses like the ones in Blake’s Plaid are actually superior, which is why all race cars use them instead of airbags 👍
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Ok that was my next guess, was because he had superior protection in place. Thanks for the clarification
How many laps racing before this Tesla needs a charge?
He covered it in the video. In the heat at 9/10ths 3 or 4 laps per charge. Back it off to race pace of about 7ths and it can do 30-40mins. 👍🏻
I looked for this info, too. He answered at 12:48. They said at a track that requires a lot of accelerating and braking (a "horsepower" track), he could barely get 5 laps at 9/10 effort, but then 40 minutes at 7/10. At a momentum track, they could go 60 minutes at 7/10 - 9/10 effort.
@@rossrosseland7427 Not a focus in any of EV reviews or drives. It should be the focus. EV's were first. IC engines were the result as the range issue was not solved 100 years ago.
@@grabir01 evs went farther and faster than early ice vehicle's did. They were also much more reliable and until the mid 1920s?
Evs had a near equal share with gas&even steam powered vehicle's. In fact gm even sold commercial ev trucks in the 1920s. 👍🏻
@@4literv6 True. The V's suffered the same problem back then that they still have today. And that is of course. Range. Once the fossil fuel engine was miniturized, it was able to be used in personal transportation for longer distances. EV's in factories were replaced by ICE as well as they are much more efficient. Same with ICE cars are much more efficient than EV's.
Putting out serious EMFs
Well, at least we can listen to the Porsche.🤗. I bet that blazing fast Tesla wouldn’t do so well in the 12 Hour.🤗
Let’s see….the Plaid has 1000+ hp. The Porsche GT 3 RS makes 518 hp. Does something seem out of whack?
So the Porsche has more power per door 😃 (518/2=259HP/door) than the Plaid (1020/4=255HP/door)
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Yep! I like to mention the hp disparity when there’s a post extolling the performance of the Plaid. I believe the Plaid with the $20,000 performance pack did a 7:25 at the ‘Ring. The lowly Camaro ZL1 with 300+ LESS hp than the Plaid did a 7’18” lap. The Porsche GT3 RS did a sub 7 minute lap. Maybe the Rivian with 1900 hp can challenge the 518 hp Porsche at the ‘Ring. 😉
@@davidpavlich8939Rivians don't have 1900hp bud. I bet you're talking about the Rimac.
@@michaelbarker1860 Oops. You’re correct. I got the ‘R’ right. 😃
What exactly is the point of concerning yourself with the horsepower of the car? Do you also feel the need to mention the light weight of the Porsche and how it should have performed better because of it. It all seems to be pointless measurbating.
We are in a four-door sedan! Yeah with a gutted interior lol not really a valid point at all I'm sorry to say. There's two types of cars. Regular cars and race cars. You are in the latter
Yet the same 1020HP as the showroom floor, and all that same power is available for daily drivers to pass any Porsche on the highway. What a great time for car enthusiasts 👍
"we're in a 4 door sedan"- LMAO your 4 door sedan is less stock than most race cars in the world.
100% Stock powertrain, same 1020HP as the showroom floor 👍
Two of the best things have curves, Roads and Women. Straight lines are boring
And so what? What have you done? What is the result of your driving ? Where are the figures? 😩😩😩
Road & Track Magazine says the figures are right HERE: www.roadandtrack.com/news/a41020048/model-s-plaid-sets-an-ev-lap-record-at-sebring/
That thing rides like a brick.
So you believe that fast track cars have a smooth supple ride?
Boring electric cars
These are serious racers not posers
Nothing boring about 170MPH and setting track records, while passing Porsches, McLaren's, etc...
On a track with long straights, sure. The Tesla Model S Plaid could only beat a regular Alfa Giulia QV on the Nordschleife by 5 seconds. Thats not that great with 2x the hp and on pretty much the longest track in the world with 13 miles of total length. On a serpentine a regular Model S Plaid will be destroyed by a Giulia QV.
I also find them boring dont care how fast they are in a straight. If you dont, iam happy for you
@@horvathr95
4800lbs S Plaid family sedan 1:30 laguna Seca faster than turbo s, gt3, nismo gtr.....
4680/3800lbs Roadster = GAME OVER BABY! ⚡️🇺🇸
@horvathr95 I'd love to test this theory.
The Giula QV is a beautiful car! And now roughly the same price as a plaid :).
If someone would bring a stock Plaid (or I can put similar to stock on my car and bring it) and someone else brings the Guila (maybe you have one??)
I'll drive them both on a track (you pick: sebring, homestead, Daytona, barbermotorsports, road atlanta? Tail of the dragon). Then, we can find out which wins! (Having owned a stock then modified F90 M3 this should be a fun and close race).
Oh, and then we will put 3 passengers each car and run them again... be interesting to see which is the better handling sedan with 4 people.
