- in this vlog we check out the national motor racing museum before leaving mount panorama and making our way to orange. We head up to Mount Canobolas which has amazing views all over the orange region before heading down to lake Canobolas. All the while being on our trusty Harley Davidsons. I'm on the Harley Davidson fat bob fxdf. my dad sporting the Harley Davidson street glide and finally my grandad riding his Indian road master.

Another great video mate. Look forward to the next one. You took me down memory lane there around Bathurst been there race there. All good times I remember one year leave Bathurst with a race car transporter going through Orange but it was flooding. We just got through and got Home.

Mount Canobolas... i rember in the late 80's my Father took us up around Xmas time and it was covered in snow, made it half way up in the old 1977 Mazda 929 wagon... got to a point we couldn't go any more so we pulled over and attempted to bury him and that crappy Mazda with snow 😁

@@Gnarly_Harley found it 20 years ago in Parramatta and looked for it everywhere. So good. Nowadays I gravitate to Ants Pants or Campos but Schibello is still awesome.

Hey GH....been subscribed and watching for a while. Your blogs are really coming along. Doing a great job...keep it up! Just a quick fyi, I 've got an MY14 FXDF and absolutely love it. It's a great all rounder and while I've looked at SG's and RG's I can't bring myself to part with the Bob as it's such a great bike for the commute and trips alike....especially the twisties. I like what you've done with yours. Looks good and hats off to you for cracking the long haul rides....I've done a few myself. Try strapping a firm packed dry bag packed with a sleeping bag and a few towels or whatever to your pillion seat ...life changing on trips.... Instant comfy as hell back rest! Must!
If you've got long legs get the 3" Kuryakyn extensions.
Ref your suspension have a look at Ikon. Your dad will probably remember Koni?.....Aus company bought them out and they are now Ikon. My first suspension mod was progressive springs in the front fitted by HD when I had leaking fork seals ...pretty cheap upgrade worth doing in my opinion (around $200 for the springs from memory). After a couple of big trips on roads like you've been riding I had to do something about my shockers as they were bottoming out and smashing my back. Along came Ikon, recommended by a suspension specialist up at the sunny coast. Spoke to a guy at Ikon who knew what he was on about and I ended up with 12 3/4 inch 3 stage progressive shocks. Standard for the FXDF is 12". Man what a difference! and pretty cheap - from memory around 800 delivered (Albury to Brisbane) albeit a few years ago.
Don't be in a hurry to let go of the Bob...they're an awesome bike...anyone who's ever ridden one, knows.

It's a combination. Suspension and the ergonomics of bikes with forward controls. The remedy? A suspension upgrade with better compliance and adjustments and mid-controls. One reason why Adventure bikes sell so well in Aus. Anyone up for a Pan America?? 😆

Touring Harleys are the most comfortable Harleys @Gnarly_Harley . I never thought I would ever buy one. Until I rode one. & Road King is everything you need on a bike, & nothing you dont

Hey Matt, the ole stock suspension is fine for the city but out in in the country and for road trippin the tourers are the only Way to do it...cheers

My Fat Bob has Harley Premium Ride suspension. Mate tried my bike against his stock 2017 Wide Glide suspension. Difference was night and day. However there are heaps of options on the market. My Fatty already had the HD Prem when I bought it.
Oh true, what year model is your Bob? How do you find your suspension compared to stock ? huge difference ?
I haven't even looked into my options yet haha... I know it's already going to be expensive 🤣😭

@@Gnarly_Harley 2013. The last 103 before the HO. Suspension and seat. The stock is not good for long rides. I also have the two up Sundowner. Hardly used it as my wife (ex-pillion) got her license not long after I bought it. From a pillion perspective it was awesome. Raised me up and forward so i stopped using it and use the stock. I also use a Wide Glide stock solo that I got cheap. You feel like you are sliding off the back after the stock. I liked the look and also put a bib on the rear fender. I got used to it and it was good to use. Back to stock for a while now.
@samuraidarryl oh nice ! Yeah I've found the sundowner pushes me bit higher and forward too. Never got a sore arse on the trip though which was nice. I rock the standard fatbob seat also. Only get abit sore on big trips. But looks way nicer haha. Sounds like you've got it all down pat !!! I'll definitely be looking into suspension maybe
@@Gnarly_Harley not sure how tall you are but you can get extended forwards. However there are a lot of other seat manufacturers that make a great seat that are options. Good for touring. I don’t get to do much when it comes to a long ride / touring like you do so I settle for the stock.

I rock the Wilbers on my 2016 Road King, best money I have spent on it. Stock Harley suspension is shit, unless you ride the new softail platform.

@@Gnarly_Harley With the trips & k's you do, have you thought about getting a touring chassis bike? I have ridden a few & like the Road King best. I personally don't like all the shit in front of you on the fairing bikes but we all have different tastes. Did you guys happen to ride through Carcoar? It's a gem of a little town in between Bathurst & Orange.
Yeah I have thought about it, it's just the money for me I can't afford one yet unfortunately! No we didn't get to Carcoa so many good towns and area's down that way. I'll be going back for sure !
Question. Can you ride the Bathurst circuit all yr round....except race days.

Hey Peter, I'm pretty certain you can as long as there aren't races on. It's a public road. As you might have seen they always have abit of work going on and maintenance.
