  • I had a medial meniscus root tear repair surgery that put me on crutches that prevented me to bear any weight on my right leg. After 6 long weeks, I got cleared to start walking again where in today's video, I go over the entire recovery process so if you are on the verge of getting surgery, you will have a better idea and be more prepared for what life will be like for a couple of weeks. I also give you my biggest piece of advice for what I found helped boost the recovery process, hope it helps!

    I just scheduled my meniscus surgery for March 8 after dealing with this injury and pain for 4 months. I am SO ready to get it over with, BUT I am nervous. Your videos are helping. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

    I am so glad I found your video! I am one week post op of a meniscus root repair and was getting a bit despondent over the non weight bearing for six weeks😢. You are so upbeat and share a lot of good post op recovery information most videos are about recovery from arthroscopy only (cake walk) not the meniscus root repair which is a whole other mood. Like you I had little pain and was doing ADL’s with little issue but I’m not a young athlete..then a year later landed on the examination table of a surgeon specializing in sports medicine who pressed the right spot and I realized what damage had been done, the surgery should have been done earlier but public health in Canada is having issues anyway got scheduled two months after I saw him.
    Right now I am icing the knee and doing the mild exercises recommended by my surgeon whom I see next week for follow up and for the PT prescription. I took the Celebrex + Xtra strength Tylenol as prescribed for the first five days and didn’t bother with the Tramadol (I took one in the recovery room) I’ll still take the Celebrex + Tylenol on an as needed basis only for a couple more weeks. It looks like you are wearing TED stockings (white stockings) were they recommended by your doctor?
    I am asking because I’m an old broad (68) and they just told me to do the foot pumps and ankle circles in sets of 20 x 10/day for blood clots. More incentive to do the other leg exercises a few times/ day.
    For any one reading this and looking at having the meniscus root repair get yourself prepared pre op for post op. Start working on the upper body strength..Stock up on food pre cook chicken breast or salmon or casseroles pre boil a dozen eggs, stock up on fresh or frozen veggies, you aren’t moving a whole lot so not the time for a high fat junk food diet and you need the fibre if you take pain meds with codeine. Metamucil is great too. Make sure you’re getting enough protein, clean your bathroom thoroughly ( post op infection is no fun), line up someone who can assist you for the first few days(or move in with Mom for six weeks) buy your crutches and adjust them to your height and practice using them, consider how you’ll approach stairs if you have them and borrow or purchase a shower bench ( Amazon) even a walker can be very helpful. Get your place set up so you can recuperate well. I’m lucky because I have an old retired guy assisting me but Dude cannot cook so prep, prep, prep. Also I spent thirty seven years watching the fallout of poor post operative recovery…prepare yourself! Non weight bearing sucks BUT this surgery means I’ll avoid a total knee replacement in future. I’ve never had knee issues and don’t even have arthritis just a bad luck moment stepping over a big old dog.
    Thank you Alex I hope that by now you are 💯 back to playing sports and doing everything that gives you joy!

    Thanks for your videos. My tear is very similar to yours and I'm 51 and am waiting for my surgery date. I was wondering if you used any kind of foam elevation or surgery recovery pillows. The surgeon said repair so I am happy and hoping he can still do the repair once he gets it there and sees exactly what is up.

    I saw your original video after surgery and commented there and just saw this one now.
    Your transition to walking was way faster than mine. Not sure if the tear was the same or not. Mine was way on the outside and torn all the way around from front to back.
    I had no physical therapy for 8 weeks. There was no way I was putting weight on it for a while afterward. Don’t remember how long exactly…but it was about 2 months until I could walk relatively normal where you wouldn’t know something was wrong and probably another 2 months until I could do things relatively normal at CrossFit. I did play racquetball on it about a month ago (with a brace) and it felt fine but I’m still not comfortable with the idea of something like soccer.
    I am quite a bit older (52) and again even though both were repaired the tear may not have been the same.
    Overall like you I was thankful that it was truly repaired as it’s better long term. But yeah that recovery was a bitch.
    My girlfriend was my slave for a while (thank goodness) and she had to learn how to do all kinds of things around the house. And nobody told me I should get a senior citizen chair for showering. Luckily that occurred to us after a day.
    Thankfully work is from home so I only missed like 2 days of work. Was my right knee so I couldn’t even drive that entire time.

    First off, thanks for putting this vids up. I've got a few questions if you don't mind me asking. I saw in one video you were using the infrared red treatment at your house. Did you buy that online, if so where at, and how much was it? I'm prepping myself mentally and physically for a meniscus tear operation in the next month or so. Did you do a lot of strengthening of the affected leg prior to surgery, as I call 'pre-hab'? Could you put your affected leg at terminal extensions prior to surgery? Cheers Delphino SF,CA

    • @crosskantz
      @crosskantz  Před rokem

      Most certaintly! I dont mind at all! Yes soi've had that for a couple of years now, it's a JOOVV 2.0 panel where they are up to 3.0 now and I got it from their website. JOOVV are the most expensive where the same size one I have is running around a 1,000, I'm pretty sure mine was only like 600 a couple years back. BUT There are many different brands now where a friend of mine introduced me to a brand called GembaRED which are just under 500. I find it's helpful but I didnt mention it here in this video due to the price. That's really great to hear you are prepping for your surgery! Yeah so I was still lifting weights with both my legs beforehand so it was pretty strong to begin with where I had zero mobility issues and could move any direction with no pain. It was only when I would run a sprint that caused any pain.

    Thanks bro for sharing your experience, so i did my surgery (vertical peripheral medial meniscus tear) 5 weeks ago but last 3 days i feel pain in my meniscus and down part of my leg (feet), im asking if it's due to the stop of taking pain medicine or due to start exercices at home? Any advice will help..

    • @crosskantz
      @crosskantz  Před rokem +1

      Yeah absolutely! So I’m not a doctor or physical therapist so I can’t be sure, but it’s probably from starting exercise! I’d talk to your doctor or pt about it to make sure it’s not anything serious. But my pt says as long as there’s not any cracking or popping you’re good. And starting back up anything after not using it for a while is going to cause some adaptations, but if anything I would just try to keep it elevated, move your calf to promote blood flow, and massage your knee cap and you can ask your pt how to do that! I just had pt 2 hours ago and they told me to start below the knee cap and push up towards the heart, don’t push down towards the foot, hope this helps 🙌🏻

    Hi, I had ACL, medial meniscus tear and lateral meniscus posterior root tear repair surgery 3 weeks ago. Same as you, I am prohibited to weight bearing with my left leg. I want to ask, can you bend your knee after the surgery? Because I'm feeling stiff on my left knee so I can only bend like 20 degrees maybe since my surgery 3 weeks ago.

    • @thebestthingthatneverhappe6729
      @thebestthingthatneverhappe6729 Před dnem

      I had bear acl and medial meniscus repair 1 month ago now. I also had tears in lateral meniscus, in lcl and sprain of mcl that were not operated on.
      My knee flexion right now tops around 56 degrees. It's painful and I constantly have to push through scar tissue when bending.
      I hope your doing physical therapy already, that's really important, and doing them on off days like he mentioned in the video.

      Hey what’s up! So I just counted and I’m now 8 weeks out of having surgery, and with walking I’m having no issues other than my calf muscle being extremely sore/tight. I’ve been doing a lot of stretching and not overdoing the walking but overall the progress is going good. But I’m only at 120 knee flexion and not pushing past the pain so easing into more range of motion each and every week.

    anyone can please guide
    ( 40 years ) been running for 40 minutes almost 3 days/week and strength training almost 4 days/week.
    I heard some pop in my right knee, was just doing mundane tasks at home. ( level 3 tear in meniscus)
    Long story short, got partial meniscus meniscectomy on the knee in mid Feb 23.
    Have reduced my aerobic exercises and resorted to physiotherapy.
    I know this is my route to getting knee arthritis.
    :(
    My question is
    " how long does it take for knee arthritis to set in after partial meniscus meniscectomy"
    like 5 months, 5 years or 10 years or
