Lore is Important

- Lore, Not the type to take you to court but the one that creates extra layers to a game or really any world in general but in games I think it truly changes someone from being a casual enjoyer to a genuine fan of the media they have just taken in. For instance on the surface many people write of games like the assassin’s creed franchise, Skyrim or even something like star wars as people will class it as normy trash but I have to disagree and say that all of these games have actually great added layers. With something like skyrim not only giving you a decent overall game but also giving loads of lore to learn about the races within the game, the wars going on in the present and the past. Star Wars Feels like a hollow shell when watching many of the films but once you delve into something like the clone wars show you see so many added stories to the conflict that gets a beginning and end moment within the films. Truly what lore does is what I mentioned earlier. It changes someone from being either a hater of a game or causal fan who just enjoys the time setting of a game like AC Unity to a genuine fan of the lore going on in the modern day plot, stories and characters themselves and the whole idea of what the ground works are of the characters and world you are existing within. Lore is what does that. And really it's one of the forms that doesn’t get thought of enough these days when games are being made.

The base story is what gets you interested, the lore is what gets you hooked
Idk Destiny 1s story was non existent. But me and millions of others grinded that game out. I'd argue the world itself/gameplay can go pretty far.
I am a official "lorist" fan. The part where you said where the lore makes it feel alive, I agree with so well. When I look into the lore, it feels like I'm looking into a entire history book, but it's fiction. Like you said with Star Wars, seeing every piece of media like the shows, games, and books adds more into the overall timeline. That's why I can't wait for Jedi Surivor as that's still a period in time we don't know of.
Wait !! There are people who think that Skyrim has a bland/no lore ?
Did they even play the game ??
If so, we didn't played the same TES V 👀
Players who don't read any books or pay attention to plot of any quests probably. First time I played it I was most impressed with the books in-game. Holy shit this game has so much hidden stuff in it
No chance, I think he was kind of straw-manning here.
"There is a realm of existence so far beyond your own, you cannot even imagine it."
Sovereign (Mass Effect)
Yyup, here we go, lore is extremely important for that deeper connection. To me even the No1 priority. A good inspired story, themes and lore can carry a game even if the gameplay and presentation is just decent.
Case and point, how much I loved the original Mass Effect, and how while still great, I rank the fan favorite ME2 under Andromeda which is the black sheep for the majority. And that's in huge parts down to thermal clips. Heck, the series being named after the main technological breakthrough of its sci-fi setting says it all. Loved browsing the codex and talking to nerdier NPCs about how stuff works. "And that's why Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest SOB in space" And among those tech tidbits where the quasi-infinite ammo with overheat, which was yeah a bit clucky but very unique and immersive in the first game. Then ME2 came along and did away with it for more mainstream reload and ammo gunplay for that CoD audience. And the in-universe tech explanation was just a lazy bandaid. One of many, but a focal point for me. And while the combat was technically more polished in ME2, it was a huge immersion breaking "FFS EA" compared to the 1st game's impeccable atmosphere.
On the Star Wars end, while I very much agree with your overarching point, gonna contest Palpatine's return, 'cuz I loved it big time. Granted still hated the execution but the concept was spot on for me.
The Disney trilogy was a mess and especially EP IX threw so much shit at the wall, some was bound to stick, this was one of them to me.
Palpy Boi is a sneaky scheming villain, having that contingency plan is totally in character. And as Sidius' and Plaguis' meddling is heavily implied to have connection with Anakin's birth, the Skywalker saga is as much Palpatine's story as the Skywalkers as a whole, he is the logical endgame. Force Ghosts started with Qui-Gon in EP1, try as he might in the quest for unlimited power, with tech and sith shenanigans, Palpatine should come close but ultimately fail to bastardize that as it comes full circle.
Then again, Rise of Skywalker was trash, yet I had an amazing time at the cinema due to the barrage of half-assed ideas gave me the perfect opportunity to headcannon a personal sequel trilogy parallel to laughing my ass of on how far the official thing has fallen.
understandable, I agree that I think the idea would have made sense if executed correctly, like having it actually build up to this idea properly instead of going off on side adventures and not knowing the actual direction. Outside of this I hope things like Mano and others create a level of interest that allows the gap to be bridged with the issues of the sequels
Great video!
Regarding your point with Star Wars lore though, a lot of world-building and lore came from the extended universe (now called Legends under Disney) books and comics that were being published decades before The Clone Wars TV show began. TCW used a lot of that content, when it wasn’t retconning it. I know a lot of people get exposed to the larger lore first through TWC, but I still feel we should give credit for the lore where credit is do.
this channel really impresses me, comes with great content. W and very underrated. with this constancy you will blow up soon.
the Force in this one is indeed strong Master Kenobi
KENOBIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Best thing Valhalla did imo. The story in Valhalla’s base story respects the lore and even expands upon it in a very unique manner. This is a huge reason for me liking Valhalla’s story over odyssey’s, origins’ and unity’s. While Eivor didn’t join the assassins, it was for a good reason and at the very least Valhalla discussed the assassins’ ideology even if it didn’t do so often.
Yup. Probably the only thing that literally makes Valhalla better than Odyssey.
I wanted to make a game on unreal engine but I figured if my game had a strong lore it would get people hooked and maybe I can make a sequel for it and stuff. so I began to write the lore for my game and one thing let to another and now im writing my very first book.
that's really cool! I would love to make a book some day, hope it all goes well and let me know if you finish it!
Agreed without world building you are playing in a sandbox and not a immersive open world.
Lore is important:
Rogue, Unity, Syndicate and Odyssey: Im literally going to ignore that.
What are you on about?
There is clear parallelism between the Assassin's Creed Witcher-clone trilogy and the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Origins = The Force Awakens. Had a lot of the elements we all know and love, was generally competent, but at the same time relatively uninspired and ever so slightly off. Still, had potential later entries *could* have followed up on, but as we saw later, failed to do so.
Odyssey = The Last Jedi. Took a steaming crap all over the existing lore. This is where it became obvious that the series was heading to irreparable ruin.
Valhalla = The Rise of Skywalker. Went out of its way to apologize for its immediate predecessor (Odyssey/TLJ) and reintroduced familiar elements in an attempt to appease disaffected fans, except it reintroduced those in all the wrong ways, and in doing so actually furthered the destruction of lore Odyssey/TLJ started.
Lore is what made me love horizon zero dawn and it is also what made me hate horizon forbidden west
Lore. Something Bethesda knows nothing about when it comes to Fallout.
depends, when you consider a lot of people say fo3 is the best then maybe they do know a bit
@@Exiled7 I would have to disagree. Bethesda does deserve a lot of credit for bringing the franchise into 3D, but other than that.. not so much. Bethesda’s direction of the series is telling linear stories with pre-determined protagonists and binary morality. At least in Fallout 3 you could roleplay as either good or bad, but there was no real ambiguity to it. You were either a goody two shoes or a devil incarnate with very little wiggle room. Fallout 4 is a mindless power fantasy that offers the illusion of choice. I’ll admit it’s a fun game, but it is not a Fallout game. They took way too many nonsensical liberties with the lore and it’s pretty clear that Bethesda doesn’t care about the lore. All they care about is brand recognition. If they slap the Fallout IP on it.. it’s good enough for them.
Here early lol
indeed
i love ur vids but you talk too mutch abou skyrim
just love the game to much
Lore, more like bore 🤣🤣🤣🤣
