The Elder Scrolls universe has long been one that I keep going back to when it comes to the single player games.
Today though, im checking out how Tamriel looks when its an MMORPG with many other players in the game.
This is my first look into Elder Scrolls Online!

Hi all dont invest into eso lot of time - Trials r broken and laggy - pvp is even worse (most of day unplayable) thats why i left game 2 months back. Simply endgame is broken. Every dlc release Zos make game breaking bugs (after last update it was Blocking bug, zos said that fix will be after 3 weeks) There r bugs for years (streak bug more than 2 years) .... but when u cassual player game is nice, during prime time skills r not even fire or fire with big delay (u cant even dodge or block) .... zos is talking to community in rly bad way, many years of lie, in case u want they repair what u payed for they just block u or delete post / there was stream and pvp was rly broken, so ppl were asking when they repair that and were banned only for using "PVP"/. Dev team is just incompetent, and leader of team Rich Lambert is someone who doest give u any respect (mean community) and blaming players for not enjoying broken game.

For new players there's a few things that you really want to do and really great tips.
1st: when you get to level 10 go to your alliance war tab and do a missions in Cryodiil or do some PVP to level up your alliance skill line to level 3 and then use a sky shard to unlock Continuous Attack. This will give you 33% more mount speed. This is one of the best things to do and it's really simple when you 1st start off or are starting off a new toon. You might not think it'll make a difference but you will notice it right away. New mounts are REALLY slow!
2nd: don't waste your gold in game buying anything from stores at 1st. Use it to upgrade your carrying bag and bank.
3rd: Don't really worry about weapons/armor until you're at least CP160. That's max armor level for right now. My suggestion would be to just use any armor you pick up off the ground or loot until you get to CP160 and then worry more about your build. I'd go further to say anything with a "Training" trait would be best until you get to cp160 as it helps with XP.
4th: anything that you can research at crafting tables(armor, weapons, jewelry, etc.) do it right away and early. It will help with you being able to craft set armor later. and anything that you can't, deconstruct more than just sell. Yes gold in the game is REALLY good, but so is having materials.
5th: I strongly suggest if you 're REALLY into the game to actually have ESO plus. Yes it's $15 a month but it's extremely useful to have and you get your moneys worth out of it every month just in the crowns you get from it, which is 1500 crowns. Those alone cost $15. You also get an unlimited crafting bag that holds all your materials and doesn't take up space in your normal carry bag. Plus you get all the DLCs(newer DLC's are not included like High Isle).
6th: Addons- There are a lot of addons for PC, sorry console players, that are EXTREMELY useful. Ranging from map pins to find sky shards to locations on maps that you haven't been to yet. Or some that will organize your set items in your bag or help you with crafting.
7th: Look up Beam Me up as a guild. It's nice to be able to use it to fast travel to someone that is in a location you want to go to without having to spend gold to travel to a wayshrine.
8th: Harvest EVERYTHING you see!!!!!!!! It's helpful to have all materials!
9th: you don't have to follow meta builds, but I do suggest that when you're starting off that you look up ideas for which races pair better with certain classes. Like High elf with a sorc for DPS or like Nord with a Dragonknight for tanking. I mean more armor related for your build as far as meta builds.
Lastly, just have fun. Talk to people in the chat and make some friends. I can say that the community in this game is REALLY what keeps the majority of players staying or coming back. Most everyone is REALLY friendly and willing to help out newer players learn things. I say this because I'm still a newer player, been playing for a little over a year now and I'm still learning new things.

ESO felt like a nice mixture between a single player RPG and MMO. I never got into doing anything with other players but I liked the overarching story and the story lines in each zones had a lot of in game implications to them.
I've been enjoying wow again but I might go back and finish leveling in ESO. I didn't love the combat system but it was good overall, I liked that it wasn't tab targeting.

The dungeon you queued for at 8:30 is called Fungal Grotto 1. It’s the easiest dungeon to clear. The players speed running were either doing their daily dungeon quest or farming of some sort. I first tried ESO during the WoW exodus last year (when everybody else went to FFXIV I went to ESO) and I was blown away that everything was voice acted. I couldn't get over how every. single. line. in the game is voiced, from the main quests, to side quests, to completely random NPCs you might never even speak to cause they're just fluff. And they have it in several other languages too (french, russian, german), it's crazy to wrap your head around. It truly has spoiled me and I get upset when I log into WoW and the NPCs throw a wall of text at me to read. Blizzard has no excuse to not voice act their whole game when a much smaller MMO does it and in several languages to boot. It should be the standard nowadays.

A lot of people that dip their toe into this game think the combat is simple and the game is easy because they don’t realize the overworld and normal dungeons are designed to be absurdly easy for roleplayers. The disparity in content difficulty and player skill at endgame is massive. At least, back when I played, you could pug randoms for Maw of Lorkhaj and roll through easy, but Veteran Maw of Lorkhaj with Rakkhat on hardmode was a guildbreaker. It was like Deadmines vs Naxx. And beyond that, two guys with the same gear could do 10k dps or 35k depending on how well they knew their rotation and mastered light attack weaves, and class choice matters a lot.

Light attack weaving is still something you want to do, _especially_ for endgame content. Still one of the main ways that you proc enchants, still one of the main ways that you generate ultimate, and it still offers a not-insignificant amount of damage (albeit less than before). Overland it's fine to not light attack weave in (always has been fine), but endgame content you still want to be light attack weaving in.

Unlike World of Warcraft there is no power creep, you can get to level 80 and power level through the champion system and upgrade the base armor sets without having to pay for any additional content. The combat is pretty mid, def not my style I just like good ol tab targeting. Maybe if it felt weightier it'd be better its just too floaty. My biggest gripe is the lack of detailed tutorials, as someone who came into the game very late there is a lot of systems and basically 10 years of content im trying to figure out. I still don't know what scrying is and I've found a bunch of those antiques lol but I dont worry about that as much as just exploring the world and questing. i have 100 hrs in this game. i play mainly WoW but heres my thoughts:
    1. Most advanced and best questing in any MMO period. I don't want to listen to music because I always want to hear the dialogue and its so engaging
    2. Questing is the endgame too, which is honestly so great.
    3. Combat is kinda meh. healing is kinda weird where your spells autoheal the lowest target. Tanking is actually somewhat interesting but doesnt let you DPS as much unlike in WoW. DPSing has some depth but that comes in with gear sets
    4. PVP is shit. its either i suck or its not really pleasant unless u know what ur doing
    5. Gearing progression is super great. Once you had collected an item once, you can craft it for other toons as catchup. Also, for your main, you can craft the same item with really specific stats that suits your build.
    6. Professions play a huge role in the game and all of em are relevant. If you're a clothwearer, I think you still want to level blacksmithing because you might need a melee weapon for endgame builds. Basically, gives you an incentive to progress all professions.
TLDR: Great game I'd recommend this to anyone. Buy base game for a feel. which is a guarnateed 200+ hrs of gameplay right there. then buy ESO+ if you're invested. Then buy the latest expansions (similar to WoW) if you care about the new raids (basically considered the hardest content when an xpac drops), new tier gear, features and Quality of Life stuff.
I hadn't found a resaon to buy High Isles because I wanted to explore all the questlines first as a High Elf.

I highly recommend picking this game up for some casual fun or if you're looking for a new MMO and really try learning combat mechanics. I know some people won't like it on first impression, but once it clicks it allows for a huuuuge expression of skill to get infinitely better at the game and always see better and better results. You don't just pick up a class and do your class's rotation, that rotation will infinitely change depending on your character setup and it's up to you to learn your priorities in group or solo content.

I love the Elder Scrolls universe. In a new player perspective, I prefer GW2's approach to map side quests, where you no longer need to find the NPC to start/finish the quest. (Though plus points to ESO for having immersive, fully dialogued NPCs). Job classes still felt limited to my playstyle as I prefer having more (7 at least) classes, plus sub-class, etc. Should they decide to add an Illusion/Alteration Class, I might go back to playing.

What bothered me though is that you'd have to pay quite a lot of money to get all the DLC and expansion/chapter content. Sometimes it got a little confusing, regarding what you need and what not. Perhaps it's the best to use ESO+ for this. While ESO may not be my favorite MMO, it's definitely one that's worth getting back to, at least imo :)

Great game! To me this was the WoW-killer (though I do dabble in that to see what’s going on every other year or so). I like the class system. As you mentioned you can go sorcerer which would be your stereotypical mage, but you can tank and tank as good as anything. Or you can go nightblade (“rogue”) and be a life draining, DPSing warlock. There’s hundreds of hours of solo content, the crafting is good and housekeeping is fun, to make your own lil’ place in the world. The subscription model is fair, as are most(!) of the micro transactions. There’s a lot of “gem” stuff that some higher up Brian-lookalike came up with that trashies the game down a bit, but you can ignore it. There also hasn’t been a new class/race for many years, just some sighable mini games. Apparently there’s some issue with adding this to older gen-consoles so they should probably just let them go by now. Things like that makes the game a bit un-fresh for those of us who’s been around since release.

I have a good few hours in this game + a max level character and, despite some positives, is just not a game that I care much for. The recent expansions have seemed extremely uninspired and overpriced, no new class in quite some time, PvP is the weirdest shit in the world, you get pigeonholed into having to do very specific builds, the skill system feels stale and the same as it did in 2014 pretty much.
But, story can be good. Running around the world and finding quests as you go can feel immersive. Some classes and weapons are definitely pretty fun to play. But if you are a WoW player looking for something else, this probably won't be more than a passing interest. I hit cap, finished the main story, tried a little endgame stuff, and felt like I was all set.

ZOS, the game developer, has been perfecting the experience for new players over the years, and excluding content for that mid and end game player. It would seem that most of the community that plays this game stay for their investment and hope that ZOS will reward us with our loyalty and time played. To put it nicely, ZOS does not focus on players that invest time into thier game.

For new players it might give the impression that noone is doing those bosses when in reality most players playing this game for years already kill those bosses in a matter of minutes if not seconds solo as they killed the same bosses probably already 100 times in the past. They for sure wont look for any help with those. If you are around and join the fight, no problem. But if you look for players to join you, they are probably faster engaging the boss directly than to wait for you.

That being said, I started with the base game, and uh, the base game is terrible from a TES perspective. I have noticed that the dlcs may switch this around, as I gave Blackwood a chance and it felt a lot more like on of Bethesda's mainline games (or at least as close as you're gonna get).

In all other aspects, immersion, social aspects, story, far superior. Also the fact that no old zone or content becomes irrelevant once a new expansion is realeased is huge. Same for the progression systems, it s the same since ages, you do not have to relearn the game and grind every time you come back. And one more thought, the story of their last chapter High Isle is the worst they ever did, but there is tone of amazing story content to play from the past, a lot more than most of single player rpg s generally have.

  • @Kessra
    @Kessra Před rokem

I just recently removed the >100GB game from my harddrive after playing it since release with an almost 2 year break in between due to constant performance issues on ZOS side (either clients were not up to par where they should be or now with their servers who can't handle even empty PvP zones in Cyrodiil well enough) . If you play ESO casually it might be fine, but once you've done all quests you figure out that the year-long expansion gives you "new" content worth of 3 days playing, if even that much. The rest is basically grinding for antiques or mythic items and so forth. ESO has so much potential, but its Devs are almost blind to it and seem to ignore most of the critique brought up by the community, especially in terms of PvP or endgame PvE.
ESO is convoluted with sets that give you the illusion of developing your character. But the honest truth is, from those >500 sets you can farm, only a handful are really worth it. While the "meta" once used to be that different sets worn by different players allow the group to actually perform better in their activities as they gain access to more buffs and so forth, the meta now seems to be that everyone should wear basically the same few sets that also don't benefit specialized gameplay but only those that have a rather balanced mix of stamina and magica based abilities. The game isn't about choices or about how you want to play but only about how good you trained your light-attack weaving/animation canceling and your skill-rotation to a perfect T. If you want to play as a sneaky ranged shooting stuff with your bow only or as a magic focused sorcerer that is to weak to lift a 2h-sword you are basically punished by the game in so many aspects. And once you adapted to the current meta, ZOS is trying to change the meta once again. Lots of people are tired, tired of the constant forced change of how they are supposed to play. ESO suffers from meta's that clearly have 2 or 3 builds that invalidate any other gameplays and thus almost all players use one of these meta-builds. ZOS simply lacks the capabilities to balance the game to a state where almost all builds perform equally good and therefore allow players to truly play how they want.

ESO is a good game, it's fun, enormous amount of well done content. It has it's issues, all games do, but there are two that are pretty bad. One is the cash shop and what they do with the loot box system, some of the coolest things in the game cost $ and the second is the performance. I know it's not ESO, but in wow I have grown to hate the weird scaling of leveling. Crate a new toon and you obliterate level appropriate npcs, but get into the 40s+ and you really begin to notice that you've been going backwards in strength. Enemies take longer to kill, your gear matters less and your abilities seem weak. When you get to max level that's the only time to evens out and your can become more powerful because everything is scaled to the max level and not power (higher item level) above that (at least in the original expansion zones/dungeons not Mythic+ etc) I know leveling takes up a small part of modern wow, but it always felt strange going backwards in power as you level.

This game would be more enjoyable if there was solo tuning. Haven't played a quest and struggled

I like your WoW videos but this ESO review was very slimzy , clearly you didn't went too far with it and I get it, Dragonflight is here and its awesome.
It took me about 50 hours back in Beta and an other 100 hours when released to decide If I would like ESO to be my 2nd MMO where I pay a sub for
I played WOW and ESO for years, alternating between the too, They are so similiar in a way and also so different when it comes to progression.
I liked both until 2020 when Shadowlands released and oh boy, my love and loyalty for Blizzard went off the window. Was the first time since 2008 when I unsubbed from WOW.
Nowdays ESO is my main MMO ( have 4 accounts with active sub) and just 2 days before Dragonflight's release I subbed back to WOW.
Dragonflight is preaty good, remainds me of good old days, leveling is awesome so is dragonriding.
But ESO for the time beeing is still my main MMO since compared to WOW, it'a s a timeless game....old content is relevant and I prefer a horizontal progression nowadays to what WOW offers, a vertical one and lots of FOMO content which ESO doesn't have. The only FOMO thing ESO has, are the cosmetics in the shop which you can ignore them.

I have 300 mods on Skyrim. Whatever I do, I can't get my mind off TES 6. I want to play it, I want a next gen Elder Scrolls game. Skyrim is an awesome game and ESO too but enough is enough.

Its a good thing you did not do the PvP. Namely Cyrodiil. That is a whole different headache.

Really wish I could go back in the past and be a noob again. The game was so good before I started focusing on getting good at the game. Blissfully ignorantly played my way through random content for 800 hours of just enjoying the game. Started to get better because I got bored of tanking harder content and then became a really good DPS and getting meta trial groups together for trifectas. Game took a turn after that due to realizing that the rewards for time weren't great plus the game getting worse content and seemingly ignored issues by devs. Currently at 1200 ish hours and have quit the game.

Great quests with choices, or at least the illusion of it. (We don't even have that kind of thing on other mmos) Mostly single-player friendly. Nobody gives a damn about tanks or healers outside raids or veteran hm content, >.>.

It’s a shame people keep saying they hate the combat, to me it’s the best part of the game. Especially in pvp, it’s fast paced with a high skill level to it.

I just got a Divorce from World of Warcraft for the 3rd time in my life, and I somewhat wonder if I would have been happier playing this.

If you are still trying it out and want a set of crafted gear with training (+experience), I can make some for free :)
