  • So I added a stage 2 Tsp cam and long tube headers to my 5.3 l83 Sierra! I do daily drive this truck and wanted to spread some of my thoughts on it in a daily driven aspect rather that just strictly power. Hoping this video is informative if you are trying to do the same to your 5.3 or 6.2 / l83 or l86 Silverado or Sierra 1500

      Same! I was hesitant to cam my truck at first especially because i kept getting clowned over it being an Avalanche but i decided to say screw them i’ll do it anyways. This video motivated me to cam it next month during my vacation😂🙌🏽

    I have a regular Cab short bed 2010 Silverado 5.3 long tube headers, k&n cold air, btr stage 2 cam, E85 tune, Carven R exhaust. dyno sheet said I made 366 hp and about the same TQ.
    That’s to the wheels.
    Really diggin your truck man!

      I have a 08 1500 lc9 aluminum 5.3 tsp stage 2 high lift pac1218 valve springs and k and n intake, stock exhaust and hp tuners road tune by me, it definitely doesn’t lope like that because of how I have the idle set (750 rpm and around 19 is degrees of timing and a tiny bit more fuel) but it freaking moves like it’s scary in the rain, and it still passes California smog 😉

    I’m looking at BTR stage 2 with afm delete and trunion upgrade, long tubes with cats (my state requires them to pass yearly inspection 😒) and I already have Carven Progressive series cat-back exhaust and 3rd cat/resonator delete.
    Thought about S&B intake but right now I have a drop-in K&N filter. JLT oil catch installed.
    Later down the road i’d like to add a 2.9L Whipple

      I’m In California so I don’t think smog gets any harder to pass than here. It will be expensive but it costs to play I guess

    Welcome back trucks sounds and looks awesome!! For someone with same truck but no cams or headers. Would you recommend the black widow or carven?

      Carven hands down, it’s all stainless steal so it won’t rust while the black widow looks crummy after a few months. Much higher quality at the same price point!

      @@Tacpew not saying it doesn’t last, it’s just made with cheap material rather than stainless which is pretty much the standard across all other brands. So it becomes rusty after a few months while the carvens will be shiny for years. Also they deliver a Deeper sound!

      Right now they are 17 inch method MR103 beadlock wheels with nexen 37/12.50/r17 tires!
      Soon to be 40” bfg KR3s 😅

    Hey if anybody might know have a tsp stage 2 low lift cam with speed eng long tube headers ls6 beehive valve spings tsp hardend pushrod and lifters 706 heads stock intake and tb though already have my tbss/nnbs intake with flex fuel rails and 50lb injectors with a 102mm tb thats about to get ported maybe even along with the manifold curious to know if any of you guys knw what i might be pushing once the intake is put on?

    Hey man. Sick truck. Did you tune it after you did all that work? If so, who’d you go with, and what did it cost?

      I did have to get it tuned otherwise it wouldn’t idle without dying. I went through STD performance in Long Beach, and I believe it was like 400 or 500 for the first tune.

      For this cam it isn’t required, I did replace my transmission shortly after this but not because of it. When I did i also upgraded the tc to a 3000 stall and it’s WAY better!

    Im about to put a cam in my 2011 5.3l but worried on if its mandatory to run 93 octane in it after with these gas prices the way they are. I use the truck primarily for towing.

      Pretty much yes, I did mufflers too to get that sound, I do feel like I really recommend looking into torque converters though, when I changed mine out it really got the drivability of the truck back

    Just recently installed long tubes with my 14 Silverado did you have it tuned right after you installed the headers? Dyno tune

      I also did a cam swap at the same time so yes I had to tune it, you will aswell in your case because it’s going to be reading your post cat O2 sensors still and will cause it to run lean.

      I’d recommend a torque converter if you can! It would have saved my transmission I think

    My lifter just failed on my 14 Sierra , I just order my stage 2 Texas speed cam as well , are you running the stock stall ?

      Absolutely, I went with a stage 2 which helps throughout the rpm range. I know several people that went to a stage 4 and couldn’t stand it but they do sound insane!

      because you will no longer be running DOD you will have to change to aftermarket lifters

      Yes I ran the Texas speed springs aswell, DOD delete CHE trunion kit etc!

    When you did the cam what all did you have to replace. I’ve got a stock 5.3 wanting the same cam but don’t wanna replace everything. Would like to replace as little as possible.

      It’s the cam, pushrods, the lifters and valve springs that get repainted, it also requires the DOD deleted which is pretty minor.

    Was your cam a supercharged or turbo cam ? Or which cause theres alot of different ones as well as the headers they have different names and stuff

      Negative, from my understanding those are intended to be ran in a boosted application while mine is not, this is just a regular stage 2 Texas speed cam

      @@luisaacuna6009 I went with 7/8 on mine but that’s just because that’s all that was offered by tsp, I know you can get 3/4 but it’s such a small difference that nobody would ever notice a difference in maybe 2hp, even headers gains are minimal maybe 10hp. It’s pretty much all for sound imo

      I did the stock fuel lobe because I have no plans on running any type of boost at this time, and if I ever decided to would probably get a cam that was a spec more designed around that application.

    Low lift or high lift version of the stage 2? are you running stock pushrod length?

      This is the high lift version, and the pushrods were replaced with chromoly ones, but I’m not sure if they were the same length as stock or not though

      It’s not raspy! One of the big things I found was getting a muffler with packing in it will lower the raspy notes by a lot. I went with carven TR series but it’s a little loud I feel so I’ve considered going to corsa or something

      @@connorellisx I’m on my 4th exhaust in a month lol. First I had it straight piped stock exhaust. Sounded good but was raspy on take offs. Then went with 3 inch exhaust and a magnaflow muffler. Sounded like a cammed Kia Soul. Then went with 3 inch exhaust and flowmaster 10. Didn’t sound good. Now I’m dual 3 inch exhaust x pipe and no mufflers. It sounds good but it’s way to loud. So I wanna put two mufflers on it. Just didn’t decide which two

      Good question! I went stage 2 because it’s about as aggressive as you’d want to go with a stock torque converter. I’ve since upgraded to a 3200 stall circle D and honestly it runs amazing, I do daily drive it so I’m not sure how much gnarlier I want it on my early morning drive to work😂

      @@connorellisx That’s awesome! Im trying to figure out what would work for me on a BTRstage 2 or stage 3. I have a 5.3L with Kooks headers, Corsa Sport, and E85 tune.
      I For sure want to upgrade my converter to a Circle D one but not sure if I’m able to have one installed before the cam. Is that 3200 a good stall or would you have gone a bit higher ? I daily mine also, so yeah.. Thanks again, Merry Christmas brother 🔥

      @@JTrump23 I know the TSP runs slightly more aggressive with their stages like stage 2 is very much like the BTR stage 3,
      3200 was really good, maybe I would have done a 3500? But that’s about it, it really just put the truck in the rpm range it wants to be in after being cammed. Honestly it’s a tough question cause it depends how “race car” you want you’re daily! It’s cool sometimes and it’s not other times😂

      I think I’d I remember right the cam was around 2k doing the install myself, then I had also spent another 800 or so on headers at the same time

      Unfortunately at this time I have not, Instead of buying gears for the stock rear end I have bought a 9” third member that will be getting installed soon in a different rear end housing that’s a full floater

      No, stage 2 is about the max without a converter.
      Worth noting after I made this video I did have to replace the transmission and I installed a 3000 stall converter and it works WAY better.

      In this video it is a dirt king long travel race kit on the front, stock rear. But now it’s in the middle of getting all of that upgraded again

      Hey dude! So the bumper/skid plate is custom fabricated, and the valance is made by a company called fiberwerx, it goes with the wider front fenders!

      When cruising down the highway with the stock stall did you notice any weird jolting when going up a hill? I’ve been having that issue where Im in cruise control and I can feel it kinda shake/jolt if the road has hills don’t know if it’s my stock stall or the tune. Any feed back would be helpful.

    Which headers did you get? Texas speed says there long tube headers won't work because I have a 4 wheel drive.

      @@Jeff-ti4pd so for me specifically the Texas speed ones needed to get hammered in to clear my shock towers. And the Doug thorley ones clear without that, also they are a tri y design and makes a lot more usable power rather than all at super high rpm

      @@Jeff-ti4pd for me it was a lot of hammering, but that’s because of my suspension. Stock shock towers it should clear without any issues

      Nothing really I had my transmission fail on me but I feel like that was pretty expected at 140k on a lifted truck..

      Honestly I would say it’s only about 1 inch or two higher than stock up front and it’s lowered 1” in the rear. All the hight is really coming from the 37s

      @@connorellisx so basically a leveling kit with 37s. Did you have to regear your gear ratio for the 37s or is it in future plans if so what do you plan on going with gear ratio wise.

      @@wersty4927 yeah sorta! it’s a dirt king fabrication race kit. I haven’t re-geared just yet, my new gears are in the new axle that will soon be getting fixed installed, they are 4:88s

      @@connorellisx I was planning on getting the vertex coilovers and vertex shocks for the rear but not getting the whole lift kit just the coilovers and shocks and adjusting the coilovers to 2 to 2.5 inch with prerunner fenders and bedsides with 37s

    Why'd you switch from cwf to dirt king

      Many reasons the dirt king kit is by far a superior kit.
      1- more travel, I know he advertises 16” but truly it’s a bumped and strapped 14.5 while the DK kit pulls 18”
      2- get an actual fabricated shock tower with cross member because the shock buckets will rip off if you plan to run hard
      This also allows the kit to pull much more uptravel which is truly where the off road performance comes from. Not just droop
      3- build quality is no comparison between the two (you don’t see upper control arms folding in)
      4- wanted to have a bypass slot and not have to build an entirely custom shock tower.
      5- geometry, the cwf kit you’d lose control
      Of the vehicle in just a group of potholes on the road, when I switched it was an entirely new truck so much more predictable to drive, you could drive with two fingers on the wheel through that same group of potholes.
