The car community is grateful for a cam and stock exhaust video. No joking.
I was looking to just throw on some aluminum heads and big cam. I still tow so I don’t want to mess around too much.
The perfect exhaust doesn’t exi… nvm. This is my dream setup man. I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this way. I’ve always noticed how quiet the nicest cammed muscle cars I’ve ever heard were. This is beautiful
You're a classy guy and a respectful neighbor..
Sounds awesome, I love lumpy exhaust
Very cool truck sounds awesome .
I've been looking for a video like this.
Nicely done!
Exactly what I wanted to hear!
Thank goodness for you! Thanks
Sound great need to do my avalanche
sounds good
That's the way to do it. Exactly what I have planned.
Stealth mode!
very cool.
Wow. Nice
I just bought this exact cam. I’m waiting for all the parts to come in so I can start working on it. First time working on a gen v engine but i watched so many videos on the DOD delete and cam swap. Should be easy. Worked on LS stuff all time so this shouldn’t be that hard, just time consuming that’s all. I plan to install everything with the engine inside, seen a bunch of people pulling the engine out, I think it’s unnecessary but they say it’s more convenient. I think not.
Anyway I’m doing the cam plus l86 manifold swap with l86 throttle body as well. Stock headers and exhaust, don’t want it too loud! I already have two monster GTOs.
I’m planning on running a stage 3 in my l86 with the 8 speed. They strongly advised against using the stock headers and cats as it could clog them and make them glow. Thoughts?
@@ivanascencio6188I think aslong as you have an exhaust cutout like the truck in the vid, youll be fine.
I was looking into doing this to my L86. Has 110k miles completely bone stock and is still fine right now actually. Just wanted to do future preventative maintenance I guess. But I’ve been seeing a lot of people having a bad time through the process with needing retuning/other issues occur and is making me rethink doing it. But I really love my truck and don’t plan on selling so it’s a hard decision, Sorry that all happened to you. Hope your next truck is doing better bro.
my 08 has a stock exhaust and tsp stage2 highlift and i love the nice deep quiet idle, people that know what to listen to ask me if its cammed but everyone else thinks its stock and wonders why thier heavy 6.7 ford cant pass me like every other chevy on the road
did you have to upgrade your torque converter?
Do you have the full specs for that cam?
Sounds nice 👌 how much cost you? Can you do this to every day driving truck?
Dude! Great video, thanks for sharing. I've got the tick happening on my 2015 6.2 and am trying to decide what to do.
I dont know that I would do it again to be honest.
@@jbplemons Really why? Also does it have stock manifolds or long tube headers?
@@mauricealdridge4660 stock manifolds, just deleted cats......I didn't have the time to do it myself or learn what I needed to, to do it. So I took it to a speed shop... probably just my luck. But I dropped 5k to do that. Then had more problems, took it to another local power adder shop and he said they didn't change anything in the tune up... he said 6k to fix tune and change converter.
It was just a nightmare for me. I sold it because of it. I'll never own a dod/afm truck again because of it, that's a guarantee.
I wonder if it would have gone better with the TSP stage 1 cam
No converter change
Better chance of working with the factory tune
@@brandonrobishaw7606 maybe. Alot of it had to do with the shop that did it.
They closed there doors 6 months after I had it done.
Did you make the cut off or is it after market ?
When my lifters and what not for AFM decide to take a dump, im probably going to do the same. Except I have Carven Progressive series exhaust and 3rd cat delete already.
Did you have to get it tuned?
Pushrod length? Are you using stock length
What octane level do u use after cam install?
So is this stock manifold with cats still ??
Heard people having problems with Texas speed lifters how are they ?
Sounds great. I’m wanting to do this to my 17, just not ready to wave goodbye to my resale value and gas mileage.
Won't hurt resale much...
Turbo it and it’ll get better gas mileage lol, if it’s tuned right
did you have to do torque converter with the stage 2? my truck same year just started doing the same thing and i was going to do the stage 2 cam but curious if it lurches?
I didn't. It didn't lurch much at all. Probably best to get one though.
Seeing as how there have been problems with the factory converters messing up transmissions.
What size cutout pipe?
it's crazy how I can hear that through stock exhaust. 😆 a truck like this is whisper even with a v8. sounds better with valve open lol
that truck wanted to roar when it turned on then the stock exhaust just muted it 🤣 yea the cut outs tho
Who tuned it ? Sounds great!!
Addicted performance in Maryville, tn.
But I do not recommend them.
So stock Truck Manifolds, no cats, and stock exhaust after where the cats were? Thinking about going this same route
Yes, I didnt want to put aftermarket exhaust on right away. Plus I like it quite most of the time.
Who tuned it?
So did you have the stock exhaust manifolds, connected to the y pipe and then to the cutouts/stock mufflers ?
Were you able to get any other video before you got rid of this ?
Do you have a link for that y pipe and switch? I am looking to buy the same one
Glennsautoperformance has the y pipe. I just got one for my 99 rado.
How is the drivability with that cam? I've got the same lifter issue and think I'm going with the same kit you did.
Drive ability is good. The only time you notice it is when slowing at a red-light. It just lurches very slightly a couple times. But to tell you the truth I can't tell it's got anymore power till about 3500 to 4500 rpms. And it's not lifechanging power lol. I expected more, but I also Drive it and need it to be reliable.
I’m surprised you didn’t go with a smaller lift from BTR considering reliability, you’ll need to change valve springs every 30k or so, vs .540-570 lift cam where it’s more 100k or lifetime. My main desire is just to achieve the sound and push power up a little bit but I feel like drivability and mpg sacrifice is just too much.
Stock torque converter? And if so have you had any problems?
Yeah, stock converter... ever since I got it back it's had a rattle. Sounds like 2 metal lines rattling together, but doesn't happen all the time. It only happens in drive and park, also sometimes it shutters in 3rd or 4th gear, like when you are easing up a hill putting a load on it.
So I am unsure if that is converter related or if it is something else. I cannot find anything loose on the truck. Just about everybody I talked to said it would be fine with the stock converter.
So I can't say it won't have problems.
@@jbplemons
Them torque converter from GM are cheap quality and definitely need replace it
@@jbplemons try it with the tow hual button pressed to see if it makes a difference on your 3rd 4th. Alot of lift for a tsp stage 2 but mine is an 05 lq4 stage 2 cam.
How did you run the wires into the cab for the cutout? About to do the same on mine.
There was vents on the back of the cab, behind the back of the rear seat. I just ran the wire thru there to keep from drilling a hole
Nice. I'll have to get under it once spring rolls around and check it out. The truck will be done by then with a new exhaust but I'll add it later.
How many miles on it and any gains that you can really notice ?
It has 121500 miles. And I didn't get the dyno paper from the guy who tuned it, but its a little quicker. Not by much though. Not as big of a difference as I was expecting, but some of that could just be the tune.
@@jbplemons a good transmission tune can make even a stock engine feel quicker. Definitely need to spice up the shift scheduling to let it drop a gear more easily when you floor it and let it rev out to 6,500 which could easily be handled since you upgraded the valve train. Did you put in dual springs?
@@Heathfx5 yeah, ... I agree about the tune. Right now it's making a vibration noise is drive and park. It goes away in reverse and neutral. I think it may be the torque convert on the way out
@@jbplemons p
@@Heathfx5 did you use a stock converter?
if it has y pipes and things it’s no longer stock exhaust
True, everything from the y pipe back is stock.
How much did you have into this kit? Including injectors
I didn't change injectors. I took it to a shop and spent roughly 5k on it. If bought from a vendor and done at home idk somewhere around 2k in parts plus the tune. Idk this is the first time I've ever messed with the motor to this depth. And it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I sold the truck over it. I won't buy another vehicle with dod system.
@@jbplemons hey man when you had the cam put in and stuff did you notice a big difference ? and did you upgrade the torque converter also?
@@braylonwoodell5465 I didn't notice a difference at all. I was going to install a torque converter, but the trans started slipping in reverse and nobody would touch it unless I got it rebuilt. So I parted ways with the truck.
@@jbplemons so the trans was already bad when you got the truck?
How much of a difference was it with the y pipe (no cats)
As far as sound it was still pretty quiet. It had a little rasp around 2k when taking off. As far as performance, I guess it depends on the tune. I didnt tell any difference.
did you upgrade the converter??
texas speed telling me to upgrade mine said if i didn’t it could push through the brakes
It said on there website it would work with the stock converter. Mine never pushed thru the breaks. Just a slight jerky feel sometimes when coming to a complete stop. But if you have the money I probably would just to get in the power quicker and not have to worry about a faulty stock converter in the future.
Are u running a stall converter
No
Is it loud in the cab
Not at all. If you have the radio on you cant even hear it. But with the cutout open it's pretty much as loud as it can be. You can't hear the TV in my house with it running outside lol
What brand cutout do you have ?
Granatelli
Full spec on the cam?
Specs: 218/226, .635"/.635", 113 LSA (Lift w/ 1.8:1 Rocker Ratio)

@@jbplemons did you replace your torque converter also?
@@braylonwoodell5465 no, but probably would be best to replace it.
@@jbplemons my bad for tagging you so much, texas speeds telling me it’ll push through my brakes if i didn’t upgrade the converter i was like oh well -‘d then you have the exact cam i’m wanting but over all you say it was much gains so now i’m in a bing we put a stage 2 in a 6.2 and it was a big difference
So stock muffler?
Yes
@@jbplemons allright I thought it was the full stock exhaust
How much you pay for cammed the truck?
I paid 4300 for everything. That's installed and tuned with a year free touch up on the dyno.... honestly looking back I would have bought the parts and done it myself and had it towed to a dyno. It would have been much cheaper
@@jbplemons what parts are neccessary? I have a '15 and want to eliminate the AFM/DoD and add a throaty cam. Already have a programmer to disable the AFM/DoD.
You can buy a dod delete kit. I know texas speed makes one and a few others. Then you just select a cam you want to go with. I'm not a "expert", but you change the lifters usually to ls7 lifters and block the oil passages under the intake manifold. You'll need pushrods , double valve springs and seats to support a larger cam. Then you will have to have it tuned. That was my problem, the guy who originally tuned mine sucked and I had several shops look at it trying to get them to tune it. It slipped sometimes in reverse and nobody wanted to just tune it. They all wanted to rebuild trans and put a converter in it..... so I sold the truck. Not what I wanted to do, but they had me by the balls so to speak. It wasn't worth have a 25k truck with 12k in it
@@jbplemons that sucks. I may have to pass,I wouldn't know where to start when it comes to finding someone to tune it. Would be a fun project, just not worth the hassle I guess.
@Bjorn Halfthor I have the afm disabled with a super chip hand held. I will definitely check out your recommendations. I appreciate it.
This is a ghost cam lol
