Is the 2020 Nissan Titan Pro-4X the BETTER off road truck than a Toyota Tundra TRD?

  • The Titan receives a major refresh for 2020. Under the hood is the powerful engine in it's class. The 5.6L V8 now produces 400HP & is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. It's exterior has a revised front fascia, grill, headlights, and new colors. On the inside you will find an all new 9in infotainment system with better materials and more safety technology. The Pro-4X really ups the ante for the person who wants the ultimate in off road capability. Is the 2020 Nissan Titan Pro-4X as good as the Ram Rebel or Toyota Tundra TRD Pro?

    I'm still rocking my 2008 Nissan Titan and absolutely love it. I had always been a Chevy man before, traded my 2012 Chevy 1500 for this 08 and I feel like I traded up back when I did it. It is just plain an all around better truck. It tows 100 times better than my half ton did, and actually even better than my 2500HD Chevys with the 6.0L gas engine did. I will forever be a Titan owner from here on out. Have had mine for 2 years now, 238,350 miles, runs excellent and minimal problems but basic upkeep. I LOVE my titan. And the crew cab is huge. I have zero problems putting my kids 2 carseats back there and still have plenty of room. The Titan doesnt get near the recognition it deserves.

      Glad to hear it! I was the same exact way. Except for the F-150 I had for a brief time, I've only ever had Chevrolet's as well, my most recent being an 06' 2500 HD with the 6.0 liter. After driving the 21' Pro-4X and falling in love with it, I made the leap! 2 months in, and I am still pleased with my purchase. I have yet to tow with it, but I'm certain it will do well. So far it definitely seems like the underdog that just doesn't get the love it deserves!

    • @curtissmith5924
      @curtissmith5924 Před rokem

      @@bcw686 I am nearing my 2 year anniversary with my 21' P4X, and I still love it! The only issue I have to report is the passenger side door not being aligned correctly and letting in water. The dealer did get it corrected though, at no cost to me, and it has been great ever since. I still love all the features this truck has, and considering it is a V8, I feel the MPG's are pretty decent. I would say most trips around town I can expect 16-17, and the highway 21, all the way up to 24 miles per gallon. I agree, this 5.6 has quite a bit of history, and so far seems to be rock solid if maintained. As well, this may be the only truck you can get these days that has a naturally aspirated V8 with no auto start stop or cylinder deactivation, which is a selling point to me. Less nannies and more simplicity is always a plus in my book. I have also done some towing since, and this truck has no issue at all. The 9-speed transmission shifts almost seamlessly once its got a couple miles on it. The only advantage my 2500 HD had over this truck was load capacity, but not by as much as you would think. I definitely came to the realization an HD truck was completely unnecessary for what I use it for. I also thought I would be giving up more going from an extended cab long bad to a short box crew cab, but if anything having more room inside the cab has been an advantage. As far as my favorite things about this truck? The LED lighting is exceptional! I don't recall if he touched on it in this video, but these trucks have the ability to raise and lower the lights with a switch, depending on your payload, which other drivers definitely appreciate (It also has auto-dimming, and rain sensing wipers). As far as complaints? The only gripe I have at this time is the heated seats. Instead of a heating element like most vehicles, these trucks essentially have a fan that takes quite awhile to heat. If I could change one thing, it would definitely be that. Otherwise I would still buy this truck again! It's a shame more people don't cross-shop these with the big 3 and Toyota. I just hope the Titan can continue to hang on!

I never was a fan of their trucks because they always seemed bland to me... but this truck right here has me. I love the all dark interior plus the panoramic moon roof, the fender sound system which the moon roof and system I had in my 2015 Tiguan SEL. Once I get my settlement I believe I will be purchasing this especially after your video. I have already looked at bed racks for over landing as well as truck bed deck systems for extra storage. Avoid that Tacoma bro. In 2016 they went with 3.5L and 6 speed auto and it's a dog. You gotta rev that truck to the moon to get any torque out of it. If you want midsize in my opinion Ranger is only option. This is a super dope truck, I don't think you can go wrong with any full size truck nowadays except Chevy with that old @ss 5.3L. Titan is definitely way better truck. Pro4x comes with locking rear diff. Nothing is offered in the tundra. Tian comes with 33s stock, tundra has 32s. Titan has a 9 speed and gets 21 highway. Tundra still has a 6speed and gets 17 highway. Titan lacks abit in the aftermarket support but it's a great truck for the money. You can get slightly used titan for amazing prices. Definitely the most underrated truck on the market. My dad picked up the XD with the cummins. Amazing truck. He had the 2014 tundra before and titan is miles ahead in interior quality and sound reduction. Biggest thing is the seats. Zero gravity seats on the titan are so comfy for long road trips. We did 1500 mile road trip in both titan and tundra. Hands down titan was miles ahead of the tundra in comfort. Even the diesel XD gave better mpg than the tundra.
    I plan to pick up a used sv titan. Dont care about off roading but I'll still give it a slight level with 33s and make it my work horse. Amazing motor and power plant. Definitely one of the fastest and most reliable trucks on the market.

    I had a Titan XD with the 5 litre Cummins as a work truck. But it was a rough truck. On the highway it was fine, but city driving sucked. The transmission was real jerky.
    Went with a 1 ton Ram after the lease ended.

    I have owned 2 Nissan trucks and they were literally indestructible. I ran both trucks hard, maintained them well and when it came down to trade them in (Crickets)....poor resale value! I DON'T understand for the life of me why either. Nissan makes really good trucks but Toyota kills them on the resale, although admittingly they too are beginning to suffer when it comes to resale value now especially the Tundra and Tacoma. American buyers are waking up to those two dinosaurs finally and realizing they are paying gobs of money for the word "Reliability" (yeah right) meanwhile they enjoy riding much more in their buddies RAM or whatever bc it is slammed with accouterments. Good job as always Joe keep it coming, brother!

    By the way, is it an option to change this pro-4x side mirrors to those bigger tow mirror that other titans have, and still have the 360 camera?
    also. I remember titan's has two long boxes on the sides on the bed, is it possible to have it back on this trim? Thank you

    I purchased a 2006 Titan in 9/2005! I still drive it daily with well over 200k miles on the odometer and the only repair needed was a new radiator at 190k miles! This truck is bulletproof and is probably the sleeper of the century! My only complaint was the mundane interior surfaces but, it looks like that has been addressed! Damn it Nissan! Just when i thought i was out you drag me back in...so...where do i sign?

    Great review joe, but i am wondering about one thing. I see you zonked the shift lever for the materials used but not on the functionality of it. I have seen several other reviews that complained about the lever being flimsy and not giving a crisp feeling for the gear selected. Did you notice any issues with that?

    Love the black grill, but the frame should be smaller. Also wish it was available in a matte Army Green and had a power rear window. The Baha Storm color looks good, but I prefer the Quicksand color on my 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. The smaller back seat leg space is a deal breaker. Size matters with respect to cabin space.

    Okay so the horsepower increase comes purely from premium gas, on regular it still gets the same as last gen (similar to how the GM 6.2 gets 420hp on premium but about 408 on regular, with premium being only recommended, not needed). The diesel was only on the titan xd which is a 3/4 ton, and that engine was problematic supposedly so it just wasn't worth making anymore considering it only had one home. That center console (like most trucks) is designed to hold hanging file folders. With the back seats the issue is just how far the doors don't open, or I should say don't. And when it comes to trucks as a whole, its all about torque. This is the reason the ecoboost is so sucessful.
