    I always felt that one of the major reasons why the Senate applauded Palpatine's declaration of the Galactic Empire was because many of them remembered the massive battle that had literally taken place on their doorstep just days earlier and anything that would prevent a situation like that again was welcome

      One of the reasons why real-world dictatorships enjoy popular support is that the population remembers the chaos, lawlessness and poverty that came beforehand. It's only later when the new rulers gouge the nation that unrest begins.

      @@klaykid117 even in 2024 you can see the same pattern though - populations applaud strongmen, tighter control and authoritarian regimes when they sense an internal or external threat to their safety or way of life. Think Putin or Saddam Hussein putting their countries back together after prolonged periods of mismanagement and then proceeding to get away with murder and pillage. Here in Australia a Federal Senator recently made headlines by calling for the national army to work alongside the territory police to quell street violence in regional towns. In the United States Trump is (rightly or wrongly) seen to be the only presidential candidate taking a serious stance against Mexican drug cartels across the southern border. In Africa and South-East Asia we have military regimes seizing power from openly corrupt or incompetent democratic government, and in Israel we have what can charitably be described as one big mess. Whatever your private thoughts on the politicians and issues involved, the modern world is increasingly favouring authoritarian rule in the pursuit of "a safer and securer society".

There is an enormous space to tell stories from the buildup to the siege, to the opening moves of the battle, to the exhausted struggle before the conclusion. Before watching the video: Okay, based on the title "A Space Battle that destroyed the trust in the Republic's Goverment" I'm betting this is another video on the Battle of Duro, given that because of the descions of certain Senators the fleet there was weakened giving Grevious an easy time conquring the planet, so that defiantly shattered trust in Republic Governance and gave Palpatine more power because the people couldn't trust the Senators to do their jobs right so they voted to give him more power. And it would be the first time this channel has made mutliple videos discussing the same battle as seen by the multiple videos on the Battles of Atraken and Umbara.
    After watching the video: Okay, I was only kind of right as it was a battle already discussed and one that also invovled Grevious like Duro, but other than that I was way off base.
    Also, I'm not a big book fan, so I've never read the Revenge of the Sith novelization, I've only heard quotes from it from Wookipedia, and videos made by Star Wars CZcamsrs, including you, Geetsly, but I do have to say: Hot damn that is the greatest opening segway for Obi-Wan and Anakin's arrival ever. The Clone Wars may have been the end of the age of heroes with the Empire rising and killing most of them, but as many shows and comics from the Clone Wars have shown most of these heroes at least went out in blazes of heroic glory be they Jedi, Clone, Separatists, or so on. And I saulte them.

    I really love that you referenced the ROTS novel, that's a fantastic piece of work in EU media that expands the movie to such a great degree that we don't see in the film and I loved how you used that as a reference in this video!
    Usually, I can't help but feel like you mix a lot of "canon" information with EU/Legends infomation in a lot your other videos. The problem with doing that is, the Filoni Clone Wars tv show and EU/Legends Clone Wars are very, very different, story context wise. And a lot of events that did take place in EU have been retconned or made completely non-canon by TCW.
    I hate to sound like a critic but it brings a lot of confusion half the time to a lot of new viewers that haven't consumed any media from the old Clone Wars Multimedia Project, and/or only watched TCW.

    Despite all the weapons, ships and other militaristic structures of the Clone Wars, the one true ultimate weapon throughout the conflict’s duration was fear. Its range had no limits, its area of effect was limitless, its trigger was invisible, and only the Dark Lord of the Sith knew how to point and shoot it the way he did, but more than that, it not only had the power to destroy societies, but also corrupt Republics, and make its peoples embrace Empires and its imperialistic crushing dominating power with the mask of a saving grace.

    The plan that led to the Battle of Coruscant according to Darth Sidious has one flaw in my view. How can he know that the communication system on Coruscant will be restored in time? After all, General Grievous and the Separatists fleet will not stayed forever. They will leave immediately once they have the Chancellor in their custody. And if that happened, that means his plan failed and the search for him is going to allow the Separatists to regain the momentum in the Outer Rim Sieges.

  • @Not-Ap
    @Not-Ap Před 2 měsíci +2

    I think this was over the top attack that was a mistake on the CIS's part. They should have opted for a stealth abduction of Palpatine or surgical strike of sorts vs this over dramatic attack. Of course I know the real purpose was to push Anakin deeper into the dark side but still from strategic PoV this was a mistake. Besides if your gonna launch attack like that you should go all out. Don't commit a 6th of your fleet. Commit half of it and enough supplies to invade ten Coruscant's. Don't prepare for a week of fighting. Prepare for a month of fighting. Then on top that have some secret capital ship killers up your sleeve or two to use at the last moment.

    • @LegioXXI
      @LegioXXI Před měsícem

      Well yes ofc it was a mistake, but since the CIS was manipulated into a role of a threat to build up the Empire, it was on purpose. If the CIS really did tried to win, they would have, considering their superiority it numbers, overall military preparation, more diverse fleet composition and experienced commanders (the outer rim had to defend itself against pirates and other threats for basically centuries) within the first half of the war. If they had unleashed all this 100% right from the beginning, the Republic would have lost. Especially since losing a war dosen't have to mean having all of your territory conquered, simply losing faith and support from the public can be enough to lose a war.

      I mean, the USA also didn't really prepare for any kind of German air attacks yet alone invasions on the east coast during WW2, believing that the US navy would protect them. I'd bet the people of Coruscant felt the same. And kinda rightfully so: Without the secret hyperroutes this attack would have not been possible, at least not without enough warning time.
