    @ToddBangz Před 3 lety

    This was good to see. Our rigs are very similar with the exception of a couple of pieces. For one, I sent the tilta baseplate back because it sat too low to my tripod plus, I wanted the option of being able to mount the bare minimum rig directly to a tripod using my many manfrotto heads and the tilta base although slick side mounting, wouldn’t allow quick transitioning to my other sticks. Great video and explanation

    Hello, Michael! What a nice gear here! I’ve just bought irix cine 15mm for work with ronin rs2 pro combo with raven and 3D focus… I was about to get 45mms as my next lens for Blackmagic 6k pro, but I see there is a new 30 mm lens :) Which one would be better for backstages/music videos/product commercials? I was considering DZO PICTOR ZOOMs also, especially 20-55… I was thinking if I should get TOKINA CINEMA 11-20 instead of that Irix, but I think it’s a great lens, and it would be good to have some of them… what would you recommend for my needs? I think in the future I will get my set bigger, I saw SIRUI anamorphic lenses and was thinking if I should get a one (24,35,55mms) to compliment my set instead of irix for example…

    Is there a way to make a minimalist rig? I am currently shooting on my phone, but eventually I would like to upgrade to a Blackmagic. The only issue: I have little space to work with (freelancer, working in different places at different times - once the pandemic is over). So I am talking a capable, minimalist lens, an external battery that does not block the display...

    • @jmac2050
      @jmac2050 Před 3 lety +2

      all u need to is to add a sony battery and a SSD to record to. u can do a half cage or mount the 2 items on top with a bracket strip. done

  • @benmcphee4401
    @benmcphee4401 Před 3 lety

    Dude, this rig is insane. :) Solid build. Few quick questions?
    1. I know you've got that external screen, but how do you go with accessing menu items? Is there a way to build that out to keep it viewable and accessable?
    2. What would it take to put that on a gimbal? (I have a Ronin S). Do you have to strip it back further?
    3. When you get the 6K Pro, I presume you'll need a new cage. Anything else? (Will you keep the matte box/filters?)
    4. Shoulder mount suggestions? Can you just slap a plate on the bottom?
    5. I've had my eye on a 6K for ages, and am ready to pull the trigger now the pro is out. Currently own a 5D4, and will keep it for autofocus. Any idea how well they grade together? (I'd be shooting RAW on the BM, and Log on the 5D4).
    Loving your channel. :)

    • @alanlavery
      @alanlavery Před 3 lety

      Hey Ben, I have a 5D4 and got the BMPCC6K as my next move. I would say they are quite different experience to grade, I feel like I have to learn to grade again with the black magic because it's not a digital image like the 5D4 - I have tried them side by side as well, there is a youtube video somewhere that is all about matching camera footage too that might be worth watching - and you can get luts (like the buttery luts for example) that can do video conversions to rec 709 so you can get the same or similar enough starting point.

    • @benmcphee4401
      @benmcphee4401 Před 3 lety

      @@alanlavery Thanks Alan. :) I think I know what you mean with the 5D4 being more of a "digital" image, whereas the 6K is more film like, and organic.
      But do you think that's true for other slightly more modern mirrorless or "cinema" cameras? (R5, C70, A7sIII, FX6?).
      I'm in love with the BM6K's file format, and if it wasn't for autofocus I wouldn't even be thinking twice. I just think that's a feature that would come in handy for me on some projects, but the compromise is, as you say "digital images".

  • @marnikovic
    @marnikovic Před 3 lety

    Hi Michael, love your channel. I need an advice man.
    I have a lens set that is all over the place. I mean Canon L's Nikon Ai-s F's m42 soviet lenses, Sigma art's and Sony g masters.
    My camera for product videos is the 6K and the cam for my stop motion work is a sony a7r4. I can adapt the ef's to the sony no problem.
    I need consistency throughout my lenses and decided to sell all but the Sony's and buy a fresh set of Cine lenses. This is mostly because the focus module on the edelkrone headplus is not playing well with focus by wire lenses. And I really need that precise focus pull on my stop motion work.
    Irix is a big contender but I cannot be sure about the sharpness for product shots. Do you find them suitable for product videos? Keep in mind I am used to the Sigma 40mm art f1.4. Have high standarts :)
    Are you in touch with Irix by any chance? Are they planning on expanding the set? If yes, when can we expect a new lens? It is nowhere near a complete set. 150 macro is too tight for my table top product shots, especially with the crop on the 120fps.
    They are a stills lens company and their stills line is not expanded by any means. So I really do not see a light at the end of the tunnel.
    It would be great if you could advise on this.
    Cheers
    Mark

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Mark, totally understand the dilemma. I spent months researching and trying out lenses before deciding on IRIX. I’ve used Sigma Art as well as Sigma Cine lenses. Irix lenses specially the 45mm is in my opinion the best for your use case. The 15mm is great if you love a wider view but it’s not tack sharp edge to edge until about T5.6. The 150mm macro is exactly that. An insane macro speciality lens. The 45mm is a great product lens. It’s razed sharp. It can open up to T1.5 if needed. Definitely on par with Sigma Cine lenses. I’ve made review videos on all the lenses If ur curious to see sample images you can see them on my channel from last summer/fall. I am in touch with them and I’ve heard that the Cine line is going to be expanded this year but they wouldn’t say details regarding when or what focal lengths would be added. I know a lot of people are hoping for a 35mm for 80mm. Hope that helps 👍🏼

    • @marnikovic
      @marnikovic Před 3 lety

      @@initialfocus Many thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, much appreciated. It makes totally sense now. I watched all of your Irix reviews more than a few times. I am mostly shooting with my Sigma 40 f1.4 so the irix 45 will be my go to as you suggested. But I find myself shooting around 20 to 30mm on 120fps. Because I do not have the space to compansate the crop on the 6k. And lower t stops are not that big of a deal as I almost exclusevely shoot over f 5.6. I can make it work with the 15mm though if it doesnt have much distortion in the middle of the frame. Again, many thanks for taking the time. I think I will go with the irix's after this talk and will make sure to use your affiliate links once I sell my gear.
      Cheers,
