  • Is the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k Pro Worth it and Do You Need to Rig it Out Still? We take a look at the new BMPCC6k Pro and it's new features like built in ND filters and a tilt screen. Should you upgrade to the Pocket 6k Pro if you already own the Pocket 6k? I also fully rig out the camera with the SmallRig Professional Accessories kit 3299.

      A "pro" version without auto-focus, without stabilizer, and not in Full Frame ? no thanks, it will be the Canon R5 for me, for 1000$ more, you have real 8K60fps or 4K120fps with RF lenses, RAW with 10 bits 4:2:2, 14 steps HDR, and you can totally use old EF lenses and have a awesome result without any external stabilization, if you accept some cropping and EF-S lenses works perfectly, the only thing to know is that if you don't use RF lenses, you will be blocked at the half speed for frame rate, like 8K30, 4K60, for people who already have Canon lenses, the Black MAgic Pro 6K is useless, and for people which don't have any lenses, you will have to buy some.... I choose the future, I choose RF, and full frame 8K (and 80 millions pixels photos by the way ^^)

      @@quentin4544 I'm shooting (and recording) live instructional videos that last up to four hours. I very much like the Canon advanced cameras for video, but there are reports of overheating with all models when recording beyond 30 minutes. Has that been your experience?

  • @joelmulder
    @joelmulder Před 2 lety +7

    One thing I have to disagree with: the battery life.
    I’m not sure in what conditions you shoot and what metrics you use to compare battery life, but I go through an LP-E6 battery in the 6K in about 10 minutes, while I can easily get 30 to 45 with the NP-F 350 batteries in the 6K Pro.
    The difference was huge for me. When traveling with the 6K, I used to have to bring 8 batteries for a single day, and I’d have to be very conservative with only turning the camera on for the shots I really needed. With the 6K Pro, I easily get through a day on 3 or 4 batteries while being way less careful about immediately taking the shot and then turning the camera back off.

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  Před 3 lety +1

      The Pocket cams definitely have a very natural and filmic look right out of the box! I think you went with the right choice. the biggest reason for the FX3 or FX6 really is the great autofocus.

    I never seem to hear anyone talking about electronic variable ND filters. I own a Sony FS5 and I am in love with this feature. Whoever can put that feature in a small camera first, Blackmagic or Sony, is winning my money. If the FX3 had that feature I'd be all over it.

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  Před 2 lety

      I totally agree, electronic variable ND filters are so nice. We have them on the Sony Fs5ii we use at work. I would LOVE to see them in smaller cams like the FX3. Some day hopefully 🤞🏼

    I think you didn't give that battery grip enough credit because you are used to rigs and convinced you need one. If you took it out in the field with the battery grip you would see how amazing that camera is stripped down. Almost 3 hours of record time on a camera that starts up in like 3 seconds? That's a lot of work being done by a very small footprint. I get it's not good for shoots where the camera runs literally all day with no shut down, but let's be honest, that's pretty rare. I found with a card instead of an SSD, and the battery grip I was filming more often, just to be creative, or making stock footage clips etc etc. For most jobs I rig it out just for the visuals and piece of mind, but this camera helped love shooting for the fun of it again, and it's been a while since I have felt like that!

    Great video.
    My only complain for cages is that usually if I need a cage I also use many other accessories and if not I use only the camera body. I just wish someone will make a cage with a manfrotto quick release plate ( not something massive like those neewer ones) so I can rig my cage completely like a cinema camera but when I want to go out to record some amateur footage I can slide it out.

    I've just sold my 6K Pro. It was too heavy, unbalanced and a crazy size DLSR body that resembles a Fisher Price camera is a nightmare to hold comfortably. The battery life is garbage compared to Canon cameras and it's a struggle nailing focus whilst holding the camera. This tends to slow down production. I wish I'd originally opted for the Canon C70, however lack of full frame lens makes it prohibitive in tight spaces.

  • @NyimaWongchuk

    Would the SSD slot fit the T7 Shield? The regular T7 has firmware that doesn’t work with the 6K Pro - but the Shield is on Blackmagic’s “approved” list.

  • @dougfranckwolf
    @dougfranckwolf Před 3 lety +3

    Great vid! I love my 6k pro as well. My only real issue with it is I still need an external monitor because for me its so hard to nail focus even with focus peaking set to high. If I have shallow DOF on something like a face, I can just barely see the peaking on the iris of the eye. But on my external the lines extend to the sides of the face, eyes and ears. What is your workflow for it?

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  Před 3 lety

      thanks! Yeah, it's really an incredible camera! Personally, I also like to roll with external monitors for the additional monitoring feature. But, if I'm tryin to stay light and compact I won't add one. Yeah, focus peaking can be a little deceiving cause it will tell you something is in focus but it's not in the right spot. What I do is zoom in and look around to make sure it's sharp. typically that works better for me than focus peaking.

    It’s ridiculous to me to have these huge, amazing screens and then put them on the back of the camera. They call them cinema cameras, yet they’re shaped like DSLRs. When mounted on a shoulder rig, the screen is behind the operator’s head and when handheld “mancam”-style, I need to crank my neck to see it. I always shoot with an external monitor now because built in monitors are physically painful to use.
