    Hello. Enjoyed your video very much. Regarding the mounting plate issue, please see my experience following: I initially set up the DJI RS 3 Pro using their directions on attaching the BMCC 6K Pro camera to the upper quick release plate. With the BMCC 6K Pro this meant attaching the upper quick release plate via one bolt to the bottom of the BMCC 6K Pro. After doing this I noticed that even after a short use with the RS 3, the bolt came loose on the camera - not a good sign.
    I next mounted the BMCC 6K Pro in the Tilta cage. The cage secures to the camera via three bolts - two at the bottom and one at the top. Then, I secured the cage to the upper quick release plate using three bolts (which were not all available in the initial set up with just the camera). Now when I use the RS 3 with the 6K Pro the camera is much more secure. No loose bolts after use. Essentially, this change enables going from a one bolt configuration to a five bolt configuration. Especially for a camera this heavy, this makes a big difference. The cage is obviously the way to go with this configuration.

    This is quite possibly the best gimbal I've seen to date for smaller Blackmagic cameras. The whole focus selection system on the gimbal monitor is amazing. As for the mounting bracket issue, I'm 99% sure SmallRig will have a replacement plate for this shortly. IF I were in a situation where I needed a new gimbal, I think this would be my number one choice currently.

    Looks like this is finally a workable gimbal for the BMPCC 6K pro - balancing that awkward camera size on other gimbals has been rough in the past… the larger arm seems to be better suited for it.

  • @danielrdotcom
    @danielrdotcom Před 2 lety +4

    For me the biggest con might be the way the Lidar inhales battery, which I'll solve with a belt mounted V-mount connected to the type C port on the handle. I'm definitely getting the Lidar and making ample use of it with my voigtlander lenses on the GH6.

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  Před 2 lety

      Hmmm why did I not think that my battery problem wasn’t from the max weight but from using the LiDAR constantly 😳

    • @danielrdotcom
      @danielrdotcom Před 2 lety +1

      @@initialfocus All the other reviews I've seen indicate that the lidar consumes a hefty amount of juice right now, and that it should be fixed in firmware according to DJI. On the DJI website they list the lidar power consumption at 6.8 W (though potato jet said it was sucking something more like 11 W with his build, I don't know how/where he got that number). The BG30 (battery grip) is listed at a 30.03 Wh capacity MEANING... that even just powering the lidar at the correct 6.8 W (if they fix it and are correct) you can get at best about 4 1/2 hours assuming the motors aren't even on. If Potato Jet was right and its sucking down 11W that means the lidar alone (currently) eats the battery in under 3 hours.
      Edit: The battery durations I mention are entirely on the assumption that the lidar is the only thing using power. I have no idea with all the variables on balance, weight, motion involved, etc. how much the gimbal motors and focus motor may consume. That said I feel like the math on lidar power consumption tells me we're going to need multiple grips for a full day of shooting, or an external solution to charge the grip while in use, even after they fix the power draw (if you use the lidar).

    My main question here is that, did this lidar autofocus gimbal just make cameras with terrible autofocus like the GH6 viable in place of sony who are pretty much the the kings of autofocus...?
    My main reason for picking up the A7S3 was because as a "one man band" you need the autofocus, otherwise I would have went for the micro four thirds Panasonic Lumix GH6.

    Oh, in the supersmooth section I see the most disappointing thing of this gimbal. And it is SHAKE. I've spent almost 3 grand kitting out the RS2 and while I really like the size, features, the ring, weight etc - i really hate the stabilisation quality on heavier setups. While it states that it can handle 4500g - well it does not, unless those heavy shakes and post stabilisation are ok to you. I was hoping that RS3 Pro would address this issue and let anything from 3 to 5kg work well, but it does not. In fact, you can see those shakes even on lighter setups - they are less pronounced but still there. DJI forum is full of those complaints. I wish they have somewhat made a replacement of the R1 and it's capacity with the RS3 pro, but clearly they did not.

      It's possible says on the DJi website quote from website
      "Users can also directly connect the LiDAR Range Finder and focus motor to the camera and operate independently from the gimbal, enabling autofocus on manual lenses as well with an external battery. [6]"

    Although not the purpose if the video, the colours were just so washed out in the scenes with the bM.

    I hear your complaint but who actually vlogs with a setup like this? Super ridiculous.

    This gimbal+cinema cameras setups are stupidly heaby to work with. You're better of with a vest and a ringgrip. After 2 years I sold my 6K Pro. It is not comfortable to work with a gimbal and a camera like that for days. People! Think about it so you won't spend your money and regret it. Try it first if you can.

      They are indeed quite heavy. Especially compared to other mirrorless setups. But for me the quality is worth it and I’ve always dealt with the heavier weight.

    I like what you're doing, but your exposure is way too dark and your audio levels are all over the place
