Ferrari messed up with Carlos Sainz

  • Carlos Sainz is at the top of his game right now but finds himself without a seat in F1 for next season. With Ferrari signing Lewis Hamilton and Carlos driving better than ever, is it the right move? Carlos Sainz has been a solid performer since he entered Formula 1 and has gained experience at a number of different teams. His ability to adapt and be on pace fairly quickly has other teams looking for his services in 2025, but is a part of Ferrari regretting the Lewis Hamilton move? Enjoy!

      @@amrakunish5238 You are kidding yourself. Going extreme on the recency bias. I have more questions on Leclerc's performance than on Hamilton's. Hamilton is a more than proven driver and this drop in performance seems pretty normal in such a situation - world champions tend to perform worse on uncompetitive cars, let alone when their exit from the team is already set as well. He was P3 in the WDC just a few months ago.
      Now, this year is important for Leclerc to put himself in the best position possible when such a teammate comes. But right now he can't even dominate his "underrated" teammate. His performance deserved more scrutiny to be honest.
      As per Sainz' underrating, I think it is down to the fact he was never branded as a top driver or a very hot prospect. He seemed to be a reliable mid-fielder but somehow he keeps evolving at a stage you don't expect drivers to develop anymore and this gives an impression that he is always punching above his weight.

    Carlos is a chameleon of a driver. It seems like everywhere he goes, he does a good job of getting damn near the max out of the car. He's got speed, intelligence, adaptability, and consistency. He's kind of got all the individual things that you really want in a driver, even if he doesn't necessarily top any individual category. Just a superb all-around driver.
    In particular, I think he strongly complements the Ferrari team, their car, and Leclerc. Not only is he usually there to pick up the slack when Charles struggles, he's also a more forceful driver who isn't afraid to tell them when they're getting the strategy wrong. I'm sure that Ferrari didn't hesitate to sign Hamilton, but that still doesn't mean that it wasn't a tough decision to let Sainz go.

He’s simply not going to have the same motivation and doggedness to drive at the absolute limit to finish 7th instead of 8th, the way George does. Lewis from 10-15 years ago, sure. But not in 2024. Why? Hamilton is a good team player and has chemistry with Leclerc. They really like each other and Lewis has said he sees himself in Charles. The only possible way it can get in any way spicy is if there's a title fight and there's no clear #1 if they're fighting against another team. If the Ferrari team is far enough ahead, then they can be allowed to race each other for the championship and it's not a problem.

      @@dianamaioru497Hamilton is only a good team player when his team mate accepts to play the second violin, like Bottas did. He clashed both with Alonso and Rosberg (his former great friend) and his relationship with Princess Russell isn't particularly warm either. LeClerc isn't likely to be the one to play second violin (proved that with Vettel) so, it will be interesting to see how that develops. I very much like your positive approach by the way.

    Recency bias is crazy, Sainz has only performed for 4 races at a high level and now everyone acts like he is some spectacular driver. Ferrari aren't stupid, there are reasons they have kept Leclerc and not sainz, if you cant accept that fact then there isn't much else i can say, fans dont have the knowledge, the teams do.

  • @gemberkoekje
    @gemberkoekje Před měsícem +2

    I don't think they have regrets, but if they could've fielded 3 drivers they'd definetly be keeping Carlos. I do think Lewis could get something extra to the team, not just in commercial value, not just in racecraft and wins, but also in the way his driving style could rub off of Charles, and his knowledge and fresh view and the past 10 years at Mercedes can help in updating the set ways Ferrari are in, potentially improving in car design, car feel, car performance and setup, not to mention how the team is run.
    Not saying Lewis is an expert in all these things, but a fresh perspective can really help upgrading set ways, and surely that's the hope of Ferrari for 2026, to get back to the top.

    I was more than anything surprised at the choice Ferrari made. Honestly they had such a solid lineup with great longevity that when Ferrari announced this I just assumed it was going to stay like this for a vast majority of my 20s (I was 18 at the time Ferrari announced Sainz). Lewis is a worldie pull for Ferrari don't get me wrong, but it doesn't really have that same oomph as a Norris/Piastri lineup that I think we had in a Charles/Carlos lineup. In that sense I think if McLaren produce a championship winning car there is no doubt in my mind that Lando and Oscar would trade titles back and forth with them dominating- for Ferrari however I think it would put an 'expiration date' on that same performance window. That being said you look at Fernando (who's become the go-to example) and think, 'hey look, maybe Lewis has another 5-6 years of prime in him'. However it's safe to say he is the finished product already, whereas with the like of Lando, Oscar, Charles and even Carlos I'd say they all have much more room to grow and reach even higher. Obviously that being even more so the case with McLaren's lineup than Ferraris (not in a bad way for anyone).

    • @tjd3826
      @tjd3826 Před měsícem +1

      But then again you could argue maybe that's exactly WHY Ferrari wanted Lewis in the first place, so it's not an easy call to make. It just wasn't a necessary call to make, and I think that's where a lot of fans get into misunderstanding each other etc.
