  • Have Ferrari Made A Big Mistake?
Ferrari come off an amazing 1-2 finish in an intense Australian GP where Carlos Sainz came of a hard surgery and won and beat his teammate for the race win. All the talk for the start of 2024 has been Lewis Hamilton going to Ferrari in 2025, but now that Carlos Sainz is showing he deserved to stay the question is if Ferrari has made the mistake.

I genuinely love Carlos and last years i supported him thoroughly. He has a big issue though: he works best under extreme psychological pressure and underperforms when things are normal or there are "excuses" not to perform. Granted he still is great so we are talking about small details here. But that is, i think, the main reason fpr the change. Also if hamilton won't perform charles will be undisputed in the team. All in all i dont think it changes much for Ferrari

This is exactly why sainz should go to red bull. There is so much pressure on that second seat. I think he'd ace it in the best car. Being the perfect number 2 to max which no one else has done.
If he goes to sauber there won't be much pressure that car is awful no one excepts it too get any results.
Lastly yes I know sauber is becoming audi. But audi won't be able to turn the second worst car into a championship contender straight away. So he won't be under any real top team pressure

How exactly has Carlos been the more measured driver when he has outdriven Leclerc in one grand prix? Yes, Australia was an amazing victory that he should be applauded for. Bahrain had us a break issue for Leclerc after he out-qualified Sainz, while Saudi had Sainz in the hospital. Now I truly hope he keeps it up, but this overreaction is the reason Carlos always fizzles out as the season goes. He has one big great performance and everyone goes insane about it. 2021 he outscored Leclerc only on the last race after a horror season of DNFs and issues with the car for the latter. The subsequent two years, Leclerc has simply been better despite also having horrors of bad luck and mechanical failures. This has been the same story ever since they have been teammates, they clearly do not have the same ceiling, but our human nature in wanting to root for the supposed "under-dog" plays key. I think it's best to wait for time to give judgment on whether hiring the seven time world champion was a mistake.

I knew you would beat me to making this video. I’ve been saying it and I’ll say it again. Who’s the guy that’s ALWAYS there for the win when the “favorites” drop out? Carlos sainz. Who’s the guy that drives the car no matter the characteristics without complaints, adapting to get the most out of the car? Carlos sainz. If ANYONE could take the championship away from redbull it’s Carlos. I could write a whole script as to why, if you don’t see it at this point you are BLIND as to what makes a truly great world championship challenging driver. Just because you have the pace (*i.e leclerc) doesn’t mean they’ll win the championship. You need the mentality.

Sainz is showing his abilities and I PRAY he gets a fast seat, but Lewis was a no brainer at the time. If he can put the w14 in P3 what can he do with a Ferrari? Carlos is a very strong driver, the son he’s number 2 is because the team made it clear and perhaps that affects how he approach races, he probably knows he will nerve the back support as LEC.. however as times goes by, he proves by a mile that he is such a good driver when the car responds well.. LEC is such a a good qualifier.. but not by a massive margin to his teammate. They are both great drivers, it’s just people don’t like him and do not want to give him the praise he deserves, and even when people do they have to drag that LEC had a bad weekend, or that he is great to pick up the pieces when the number 1 driver isn’t there… but the truth is, he is good and he knows it. The term pressure is an interesting one. It is multi faceted. Carlos no longer has to prove anything to Ferrrari - pressure off, and he has already alluded to this before when the LH decision was announced. In fact, he also said that all he has to focus on is to race the wheels offf the car and for himself - pressure on. The major rub on this is that by racing for himself - external pressure off, he is marketing himself to others - internal pressure on - and is rightly doing so in grand style - no pressure !! Carlos is not a flashy type of guy, but rather lets the talking being done on the track. Charles is learning this at his own expense. There was huge amount of hype on him when he showed up Sebastien. Then this was maintained thereafter and yet this has not delivered the victories nor the championships. Hype is dangerous and extremely fickle. Charles is now acting accordingly. Now '25 will come around and he is going to inevitably be in the LH shadow. I am just hoping Carlos gets a great seat for '25. We all know, deep down, that this guy has the mettle and the character to be a great champion - a true smoothe operator !

And let’s be honest, Sainz is a good driver, but he is still not as good as LH and he might never be. So yes they did the right thing.

Let's get to the elephant in the room, Ferrari have an amazing driver line up. These guys have been in the team for a few years and are key to the stability Ferrari seeking.
Bringing Hamilton, is a whirlwind of change. They are making strong decisions and showing intent. But I fear, bringing Hamilton is going to dilute the stability and dynamic Ferrari are creating.
My thoughts are, bring Hamilton to Ferrari are a rouse to tempt bigger names over. I would not be surprised to find out Ferrari are really the ones behind the whole RB drama and Charles is due to be replaced by Max in the future.
I am not a Hamilton fan, but I cannot deny his mystique and cannot deny respect he commands. I do not look forward to the Hamilton era.

I love Sainz and my heart hurts that he is leaving. Nevertheless i think Ferraris desicion was right. It is not about Hamilton, but he brings key staff from Merc to Ferrari. I think this is the main reason for the move. With this move, Ferrari buries Mercedes (Ham gone, staff gone) and strenghen theirselves. If Charles gets beaten by Ham, he can say „he is a 8time champion“, if Charles beats Ham, he proves that he is champion material.

For the moment, the real doubt over Ferrari should be: will they be able to give both drivers a car that can win a race for the other 21? Debate over Hamilton and Sainz, will just put pressure on the team

No Ferrari has not made a mistake bro. We’ve seen Carlos when the team had a championship contending car. Damn near finished behind George and almost got eclipsed by Lewis in 22. 246 points from Carlos vs 240 points from Lewis in a struggling W13 that he didn’t like at all. There’s a reason why Charles was beating him in 22 straight from the get go.
What Carlos is doing right now is something without any pressure because he has no drive from next year without expectations.
I always tell people this man when a driver has major expectations on him with a championship car, that’s where the pressure is. Max, Fernando, and Lewis are the only drivers we’ve seen deliver under pressure. They may have lost in championships Fernando and Lewis but they’ve always lost it in the LAST race of the seasons they challenged.
No one has seen this guy Carlos over the course of the season. He is literally a rich man Sergio Perez. I’m always going to take a world champion over someone that don’t know what facing that smoke looks like.
And LH finished 3rd in the drivers championship last year. Those that say he’s “washed" are clearly trolls looking for likes and replies.

Sainz had an amazing weekend and would agree prolly his best performance of his career followed by Singapore 2023 and then maybe Monza 2023. I do not think you are giving Lec braking issues in Bahrain enough credit. Lec was the faster driver all weekend in Bahrain (A circuit he's very good at). I do not think if Lec braking issues was not as bad, that Sainz would have finished ahead of him. So yes Sainz great start 1-1 in Quali and 2-0 in races but its really like 1-1 in each on performance not result.

I do really like Carlos, but in that team, yes i do think Charles is better. I think some forget that Charles had a very difficult race due to car problems and not a great strategy, his last stint was great though when the car came to him. Not to try and bring Carlos' performance down or anything, but i just feel that both sides are important. Carlos is a great driver, probably a more consistant driver than Charles, but Charles' peak and when he's comfy, i mean he's up there close to Max when it gels for him, Carlos simply cant reach those levels. I do think Carlos deserves a top team seat though, maybe not as a No1 driver, but i still think he could manage that fairly well

And what if Ferrari build a car for Ham that he decides is no good, like the W13 that red bull took inspiration from and is winning races with, or the current W15 which was apparently designed with his leadership but he's still unhappy. I think this was at least a very premature decision from Ferrari, and they wanted the name rather than having a duo with the greatest opportunity for points. Carlos was the only driver aside from Max to win a race last season, while Hamilton constantly fought with his own setups. I'm not saying Ferrari is gonna regret hiring Ham, he isn't exactly washed, but I am saying Sainz should have been given more consideration considering he's probably their best race strategist and Ham is facing the end of his career.

Part of why Alonso appears to be so adaptable in every car is because he’s great at getting his way on the development side and he’s had some really poor teammates who haven’t capitalised on some of the poor qualy laps he often does with that aggressive steering mid corner

Hamilton will do very well in that Ferrari car. Question should be did ferrari choose the right person between leclerc and sainz? Leclerc is very good on his day but not very consistent. He has very bad moments and top class moments. Leclerc would be fighting for no1 driver with Hamilton. You can expect a Rosberg va Hamilton type atmosphere at ferrari. Sainz on the other hand is very consistent and he is more than a second driver for Hamilton. For ferrari signing Hamilton makes more sense commercially and on track. They see bearman to take over in 3 years.
