    But for all the exterior shots, interior, and endless lists of equipment levels and prices.... how much is actually TRUE? How much is confirmed by Toyota?

    There's been plenty of 'noise' about the potential for a Toyota smaller truck, a revival of the Stout. But most of it has been pure guesswork, so I dug in and found out what Toyota's really, truly said about a future truck beneath the Tacoma, and it's not much!

    I don't know about the rest of you, watching here, like me, but I like this artist's rendering from 4:49-4:53 the best of the Toyota Stout. The styling fits the name, wish that I could see the rear styling. Thanks for the updates, no one really knows for sure yet. I do remember back in very late 1994, or early 1995, before the Toyota tacoma pick came out, I saw an undisguised version of it on a street in the Hollywood Hills (Laurel Canyon) area of Los Angeles. I even went to a Toyota dealership, and told them that I had seen this Toyota truck parked on the street, named "tacoma", and they looked at me real funny, like I was imaging it, as they said at that time, that they had no information at all about a newly redesigned Toyota truck. I am a car guy, and I KNOW what I saw. Lo, and behold, within about 3-4 months later, the newly redesigned Toyota tacoma pick up came out, confirming what I saw parked on the street, undisguised. Keep your eyes open, you may soon see the new Stout being test driven around somewhere, before it goes on sale! Back then, we didn't have cameras on cell phones, so if you see one, take a pic of it, like I wish that I did, of the pre-existing tacoma truck!

    What does “space” below the Tacoma actually mean? What is the primary niche? An off trail beater? A general purpose suburb vehicle to pickup livestock food and drop off garbage? A trailer hauler? A work truck? A show truck? Something that fits in a garage?
    Everyone keeps comparing this to the Maverick and Santa Cruz but the Ridgeline should also be in this bunch as the original unibody truck. And since American full size trucks are cheaper than the Honda, and can do more in every category except fit in small spaces, the lesson learned is that it has to be priced substantially cheaper.

    Thanks for this honest fact based assessment Jon. I do think the longer Toyota waits to bring this compact pickup to market, they will be losing on opportunity to capitalize on Fords production capacity problems with the Mavericks as well as recalls and QC issues.

    • @dwaynewindham2937
      @dwaynewindham2937 Před 11 měsíci +2

      Those aren't legitimate production problems. They're choosing not to make more of them. Look at how many f-150s are sitting on lots right now and how much trouble they're having to sell extremely high priced pickups. There's a massive push internally not to cannibalize the sale of Ford rangers with Mavericks. Thus, even though they can Make more Mavericks they are choosing not to allocate resources that direction in order to try. And maintain sales of higher profit vehicles.

    • @joerapo
      @joerapo Před 11 měsíci

      @@dwaynewindham2937Exactly. The F150 especially at the higher trim levels has huge profit margins. Ford is choosing to prioritize that over lower margin Mavericks. I think it's a mistake. The Toyota stout being a unibody means it won't last as long and could jeopardize their reputation. Why won't Toyota just make a mini version of a body on frame small truck when designing the Stout? Jon I thought with all the videos on the Stout it was a done deal coming out sometime in late 2024. Toyota should be paying attention to the demand for the Maverick and coming out with their own compact truck. There have been similar videos on bringing the Chevy Montana to the US and the Ram Rampage both made in South America and even a video on a new Subaru compact truck. The auto manufacturers should be paying attention to this market segment it is wide open for more competition. True the profit margins are not as great as the full size trucks but full size trucks are not selling as well with higher prices, rising fuel costs, and rising interest rates. Having owned 5 pickups previously to my Maverick one a full size and one a 4x4 crewcab midsize (which was about the size of a 90s full size pickup) a compact pickup more than meets my current needs. The American auto industry still has the same mindset that buyers can be up sold to a larger vehicle whether they need it or want it. Also the CAFE standards favor the larger truck like vehicles. I loved my first compact pickup a 85 MItsubishi MIghty Max and my 99 S-10 extended cab which I had for over 20 years was a perfect size and I did use the beds of both those trucks a lot for hauling. I have used the bed of the Maverick as well and yes I would have liked another foot on the length of the bed but I like everything else about it and I have managed to make the bed work for me. Thank you for the video.

      I find it interesting the parallels between the 60s/70s and today, where the industry keeps pushing larger and more expensive cars. Back then they'd say if someone wanted cheaper, they'd buy used.
      Well son of a gun if I didn't read that the other week in an article, that with few 'affordable' options, people are being increasingly pushed to used cars (but of course that market stinks right now too).

    I have been bitching about a small truck for years because I want one. The Tacoma seems to have gained a shit ton of weight over the years. I remember when the Tacoma was actually a small truck. The same thing with the Frontier and the Ranger. When the Ford Maverick came out I was happy but I don't like Ford and as recently as 2 weeks ago I told my wife that if Toyota came out with a small truck again, I would get one. Maybe I will soon!

    I kinda have a goal in my life to own as many different types of cars as possible. Mostly refering to the body styles. Have had two body on frame SUVs, a sedan, and now a subcompact hatchback. I would like to try a truck out but honestly dont really need one besides for bikes and kayaks. But something like the Maverick or Stout would be up my alley.

(why would I switch when the Tundra has shown me that Toyo is great?). I am hoping it lasts long enough for the Stout to come out. I can't stand how BIG trucks have ebcome over the years. The Tacoma is way bigger than my Tundra.. I hope Toyo beats youe expectations and has it out by 2025.. Thanks for the truth though it hurts

    Jon, look up Toyota Town Ace/Lite Ac truck. It is smaller than Tacoma, like Ford Maverick size but unlike the Ford Maverick it is proper body on frame rear wheel drive. They sell in third world countries. It is not one of those UTV sized JDM Kei truck either it is a proper sized car. It has only around a 100hp though. They could probably make this the Toyota Scout.

    They can’t wait that long. To late to the party isn’t good.
    The base platform is there then it’s the body layout that needs development. If you got the tree just trim it out for Christmas 🎄
    If not Christmas 2024 then a half year release date.
    The got the know how and the resources. They have never been lacking in will before so I’m hopeful the will.

    I saw u-tube adds suggesting a $15,000 Stout about 6 months ago.
    I was excited as I could buy something in that price range. I'm so disappointed that now we're talking nearly double that. What the public wants is a good little truck with a hybrid package for economy with ac and a decent am FM sound system. Forget plush carpet, stupid high cost too bright head lights, electronic system that distract from driving. I've got a good phone and a Garman. I don't need your overpriced multi function crap.

  • @kodak_jack
    @kodak_jack Před 11 měsíci

    Yes, start out just like the Maverick did and dress it up later. If they wait too long to launch, they’ll miss the opportunity. 90% of pickup owners never really use the carrying capacity nor actually NEED a pickup, yet a small pickup with four doors is where it’s at. The Maverick would have been the best vehicle Ford ever produced had it not been for the “chip shortage”.

    I personally never see Stout happening. I will say this however,. Mitsubishi has stated that if they could a way with alliance partner Nissan to make it happen they would love to sell a Maverick competitor in the United States. A vehicle like this by Mitsubishi could make them relevant again and capture a niche market. Hope they can make it happen somehow someway.

      I wonder what platform they'd use as a base.... that's an interesting idea for them.
      This is exactly what's needed, a hungry brand who's willing to give up incremental profit to feed a need in the marketplace. I like this idea.

    • @John-kx3ng
      @John-kx3ng Před 11 měsíci +1

      By my understanding they would use the current platform and running gear from the Rogue and Outlander and possibly build it in Japan but the chicken tax is the biggest issue in the way. Higher ups are pushing for the business case to make it happen in North America. If they could bring this to market and a replacement for the aging Outlander Sport it could make them relevant again. A great replacement for the latter would be XFC concept which goes on sale soon in the Asian rim.

    If Toyota wants to compete against the Ford Maverick the Corolla Cross TNGA-C platform is way too small, however the RAV4 TNGA-K platform would work. I'm not saying there won't be buyers if Toyota goes with the smaller platform. I'm just saying I won't be one of them.
