  • Latest UPDATE For The Upcoming Toyota Stout!
The full-size pickup truck market is led by Ford. Nearly 33% of the 2 million full-size pickup trucks sold in the United States in 2022 were Ford F-Series vehicles. The Ford F-Series, led by the half-ton Ford F-150, has been the most popular car and pickup truck in the US for more than 40 years.
GMC and Chevrolet are ranked second and fourth, respectively. However, when taken as a whole, these two General Motors (GM) brands account for more than Ford's share of the full-size pickup truck market at about 38%.
The Toyota Tacoma won the 608,000-strong midsize pickup truck class with a 39% share, placing it in a respectable fifth place overall despite the Toyota Tundra's 4.7% share in the full-size truck category. The Toyota Tacoma has dominated the midsize truck market in America for the past 20 years or more.
But it appears that consumer preferences are currently drastically changing across the whole U.S. pickup truck category. In comparison to 2021, sales of full-size trucks decreased by about 9% in 2022. Likewise, there was a 4.4% drop year over year in the midsize truck category.
It's interesting to note that sales of compact pickup trucks increased by 376% between 2021 and 2022, going from 23,300 to 110,00 units, and the trend line for these sales is continued rising, much like the popularity of electric vehicles. The Ford Maverick outperformed its single rival, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, with a 67% class share, which is twice as high. For the time being, new compact truck models like the Chevrolet Montana and the Ram Rampage are only available in the South American market due to design, logistics, and regulatory issues.
With the rumoured rebirth of the Toyota Stout, it appears that Toyota also intends to compete in the compact pickup truck segment. Now that we know what the Toyota Stout is, why should Ford, GM, Stellantis, and Hyundai have to worry about it?
What Exactly Is The Toyota Stout?
The Stout light truck was introduced by Toyota in 1964 for the American market. In a market dominated by American inline-6 and V8 trucks, the 86 horsepower, 4-cylinder Toyota Stout unfortunately failed to make a dent. Still, the Stout paved the way for the Tundra, Hilux, and Tacoma pickup trucks that are familiar to Americans today.
New information suggests that the Toyota Stout will return as a compact pickup truck variant. Stout was registered by Toyota in Argentina in 2022. A few of Toyota North America's top executives also said that the Japanese carmaker is developing a vehicle that will sit below the midsize Tacoma and that it is interested in the compact pickup truck segment.
What is currently known about the Toyota Stout?
We can draw educated assumptions regarding the Toyota Stout based on Toyota's existing model portfolio and long-term objectives even if the company has not yet made any formal confirmations about the next model.
The TNGA-K platform, which is also the base for Toyota's midsize models including the RAV4, Highlander, and the country's best-selling luxury car, the Lexus RX, will likely be used by the next Toyota Stout.
Toyota may adopt the company's highly regarded Compact Cruiser EV Concept design for the Toyota Stout.
The RAV4 and Highlander may serve as the new Toyota Stout's inspiration for its powertrain options.
Probably a Toyota Stout Hybrid variant will be available from Toyota.
A starting price of under $25,000 is what the Toyota Stout most likely aims for.
By the middle of 2024, Toyota may debut the forthcoming Stout compact pickup truck, which will debut as 2025 Model Year.

I have had my 1990 Toyota Hilux 4 x 4 since I bought it in 1989 for $9,000. Just past it off to my son who is still driving it. I like some of the concepts I see on the Stout so I'll be looking close at what the final truck looks like and what they will over and price. I may end up buying one of them.

  • @jimstenlund6017

Make it the Scout, IH won’t mind.

  • @jamesbarker619

I’ve been waiting a long time for Toyota to make another small truck. Can’t find any of the older small trucks for sale at a decent price.

    Waiting for it

  • @mutteringmale

I was going to wait for the Stout before I bought another car, but upon further reflection and the seemingly stupid lack of info from Toyota, and the fact that I will have to buy it from one of their crooked dealerships, I expect I'll have to pay about $35,000 for a little 1st year pick up truck with all sorts of crap on it I don't want and the "dealer markups" and more.
